Tiger Woods Urged To Abandon Albany -
By Tameka Lundy:
Nassau, Bahamas:
A local environmental protection group is attempting to take its concerns about a multimillion-dollar exclusive resort development under construction in southwest New Providence to one of three golf pros behind the development, asserting that in its present form the project is not sustainable and some components should be eliminated.
The Director of ReEarth, Sam Duncombe, is seeking to draw outside attention to the potential problems that the Albany Beach and Golf Resort could pose for The Bahamas and has written a letter to Tiger Woods, one of the partners behind the project.
In her letter, she registers her deep concern for the environmental and social problems associated with the Albany project and urges Mr. W
Since Nassau, Bahamas is sandwiched in between two of our great beaches in the best beaches list, I'm posting photos taken by my younger sister Ria in Paradise Island and Lighthouse Beach in Nassau the other week. She's my first guest poster in the blog. The beaches were beautiful -- blue green water, fine white sand, huge waves in some areas. I was also surprised how the Bahamas looked like a beach area in the Philippines. There were coconut trees lining the beaches and roadside, handicraft and bead shops everywhere, and locals offering hair braiding. My hotel was right across what is called, Lighthouse Beach (so named because there's a view of the lighthouse in neighboring Paradise Island). From there, you can just walk to downtown Nassau where there's a lot to see -- the pier where the bi

Christie Defends Concessions:
By Candia Dames -
Nassau, Bahamas:
Despite suggestions by the government that the Progressive Liberal Party administration was too generous in giving concessions to developers, former Prime Minister Perry Christie stressed on Tuesday that his government did not give too much away.
"The concessions that we gave will be returned ten fold to The Bahamas," Mr. Christie predicted in an interview with the Bahama Journal at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition on Parliament Street.
In the House of Assembly a week ago, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham questioned concessions the former administration agreed to give to the developers of the Albany resort in southwest New Providence.
Mr. Ingraham said because Albany is slated to be a private members club with its amenities made available only to its guests, it’s not eligible for some concessions.
"Concessions available under the Hotels Encouragement Act require that hotels and related facilities and amenit

In a press release Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced this morning the arrests of an attorney in connection with separate thefts of more than $900,000. Barry Chasky , 54, of Point Lookout, who has been charged with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, after allegedly embezzling nearly $900,000 from the escrow accounts of First American Title Insurance Company. Chasky will be arraigned later today in First District Court, Hempstead. Mr. Chasky and Mr. Corrado face maximum sentences of 15 and seven years in prison, respectively, if convicted of the charges.“Attorneys have more than just a professional responsibility to represent their clients’ interests,” said Rice. “These are professionals working in a position of trust, very often for clients who are not familiar with the law and may be going through an incredibly difficult episode in their lives. We will be very aggressive in going after professionals violating this trust and preying upon th
In the second case announced today by Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice it was announced that Joseph Corrado, 48, of Pleasantville, has also been charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, in connection with an alleged theft from the escrow account of a Garden City client who hired the defendant to negotiate a loan refinancing. Joseph Corrado was hired in January 2005 to negotiate a loan modification for a Garden City homeowner who had stopped paying his mortgage bill in 2002. The homeowner gave Mr. Corrado a total of $35,000.00 to hold in escrow during the negotiations. Bank One, the mortgagor of the property, foreclosed on the home and it was ultimately sold at auction July 19, 2006. Mr. Corrado is alleged to have pocketed the money, doing little more than filing a notice of appeal during the process. To date, Mr. Corrado has returned only $4,000, creating a financial loss of $31,000 to the client. Assistant District Attorney Vickie Curran, of the District Attorney&r

Good fortune struck recently when I won a cruise aboard the Regent Navigator for doing nothing more than shopping my local Harris Teeter grocery store. At first I thought it had to be some kind of scam, but it turns out that I was automatically entered for shopping the store and using my Harris Teeter VIC Card to get the weekly discounts.I had been trying to get my wife, Sandy, on a cruise for 24 years, and after the bumpy ride on the ship thanks to some choppy seas, it might be another 24 years. But, that's another story. The folks at Harris Teeter rewarded shoppers from each of its stores, plus employee incentive winners, with a first class 5 night cruise that left from Fort Lauderdale, sailed to Key West, then to Cozumel, Mexico, and onto Nassau, in the Bahamas. Harris Teeter treated the winners extremely well and made sure everyone had a great time.At the stops along the way we made sure to find some local beers to enjoy in the tropical settings. The next Tuesday Tasting will reca
The Criminal Detective Unit (CDU) last night said at a press conference on Thompson Boulevard that Corey Hepburn was found at approximately 8pm hiding out in a building in Coral Harbour. Police said that they also found a small quantity of marijuana in the building. On intelligence, plain dressed CDU officers were able to apprehend Hepburn in a matter of minutes; which were uneventful. Corey was probably HIGH at the time when police raided his hiding spot, and that's why he didn't put up a fight or run and get shot, because we all know he had it coming. But he still has it coming to him. The prison system over here is so. He will probably be beaten continually by police officers, prison guards, and prisons themselves. I wish Corey absolutely NO good luck. I'll bet that he will never be able to leave the maximum security section of Her Majesty’s Prison. In fact, he'll probably never see the light of day again. Here is a photo taken by Felipe Major a photographer for The Tribune as Co
The Royal Bahamas Police Force announced this morning that they believe that Corey Hepburn is hiding in the eastern district of Nassau by some of his 'friends'. The Police said that they are going to 'beef-up' the search by offering a ten thousand dollar ($10,000) reward. I'm pretty sure that someone will give him up for that money. Do you know how much 'Bling' you can buy for that? If no fish bites the bait; don't worry they will. Maybe not now. They may hold out for more money. But soon someone will say something that will lead to Corey Hepburn 'going down'.

The escape of four prisoners in the early morning hours (around 3:00 am) of January 17th 2006, resulted in the death of one prison officer, Corporal Bowles, as well as one of the escapees."The prisoners did not like [Corporal Bowles] because he did his job [in Her Majesty's Prison properly] and unfortunately that is what probably got him killed [during the escape]," Mr Edwin Culmer said - former prison chief. Corporal Bowles was stabbed to death and two other prison guards were wounded after being overpowered by four inmates at Fox Hill's maximum security block during an escape before daylight Monday morning.Of the four inmates who escaped, one was killed, two others were immediately recaptured and one remains at large - convicted armed robber Corey Douglas Hepburn, who is being hunted by police. Here is a picture of Corey Hepburn
Back from Nassau, getting ready to go across the country next week. I'll upload a few more pics from the Nassau trip shortly, as I saw something I hadn't seen before on the ramp just prior to our departure. Until then, check these out:I found this on AvCanada. The original youtube video wouldn't allow embedding, so I ripped it and uploaded it again. This is a Citation II doing a barrel roll at altitude. Citations are NOT certified for aerobatics. At appears the crew has some brushing up to do on their decision-making skills, as this seems to be a case of taking a risk for no good reason.Aerodynamically, performing a perfect barrel roll doesn't put a whole lot of stress on the aircraft, but if you screw it up that's another story. On a completely different note, here are a couple of hilarious magicians. Normally I don't care about magic stuff, but I was wiping the tears away from my eyes as I watched this.
Mondello is staying put. The man who has led the once powerful Nassau Republicans right off a cliff is going to continue to drag the party down until they, I don't know, end up like the Brooklyn Republicans.you would think after loosing;-Control of the County Legislature-the County Executive race...twice-two Congressional seats-the District Attorney's race-two State Assembly seats-a State Senate seatin just the past 10 years, it's probably time for new leadership for the party, but not for the Republicans. I guess when you have full power in the place for over 50 years and then suddenly loose, you refuse to accept you actually lost it.The loss of the 7th State Senate seat was the last straw for the Nassau GOP. They've held all the State Senate seats in Nassau County for over 30 years, to lose one, especially in a special election, is just dreadful for them.Oh well, let's see how easy it's going to be for Mondello to fundraise and support candidates with the Nassau GOP almost brok
