Clearwire Corporation and Sprint Nextel Corporation today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to combine their next-generation wireless broadband businesses to form a new wireless communications company.The new company, which will be named Clearwire, will be focused on expediting the deployment of the first nationwide mobile WiMAX network to provide a true mobile broadband experience for consumers, small businesses, medium and large enterprises, public safety organizations and educational institutions. The new Clearwire expects to dramatically enhance the speed and manner in which customers access all that the Internet has to offer at home, in the office and on the road.
According to a published report on Tuesday, Sprint's has reached an agreement with Clearwire, combining the two companies wireless broadband divisions. Clearwire traded up 12.4 percent immediately following the news.

Sprint Nextel's stock sunk over 9 percent after the company reported that it lost $29.5 billion during the fourth quarter. The loss was mostly related to merger expenses with Nextel. The company announced that it has suspended its dividend and taken out a $2.5 billion loan. Daniel Hesse, Sprint's CEO, responded to bankruptcy concerns stating that the company has plenty of cash on hand and borrowed the funds to allow for greater flexibility in fixing its business.
Sprint Nextel is a tricky investment case. On the one hand, there is a meltdown of sorts. On the other hand, WiMAX holds a promise as a 4G solution. Sprint Nextel and Clearwire plan to jointly construct the first nationwide mobile broadband network using WiMAX technology (announced last August) has died. The companies couldn't finalize a preliminary agreement they signed last July to pursue the partnership. They companies in July had announced plans to accelerate the agreement. The companies had hoped to finalize the agreement within 60 days but the agreement became too complex. The recent departure of Gary Forsee, Sprint's chief executive, didn't help matters.The collapse of the preliminary agreement is a blow to CLearwire. The company had staked its future on WiMax, which is a longer range cousin of Wi-Fi that theoretically provides wireless broadband access for laptops and cell phones at speeds comparable to what cable operators provide.
When looking back over the past six races namely the previous six chase races, they have all been interesting in one way or another. Starting off in New Hampshire which I watched from live in person in the pit area and on top of the #29 Shell pitbox was not what it was in past seasons, but in the same respect it showed that one team is a chase contender being Clint Bowyer, who dominated the field throughout the day and picked up his first career victory.However, Dover was completely different and ironicly has been the theme for the chase races so far with the exception of New Hampshire, Dover was a game of survival with Carl Edwards being victorious and with that victory also fined and docked 25 points for right rear being too low which was the right call by NASCAR. Moving forward straight into the rain and darkness of Kansas where drivers, teams, owners, officials and fans found themselves experiencing a nightmare of red flags, rain, delays and one controversial finish were this race
First up is Nextel Cup: Is it a two-man race for the Nextel Cup going into Charlotte? This question was asked a couple of nights ago on NASCAR Now and I really think it deserves a classic answer, simply put NO way, its not just a two-man race (being last weekends Talladega winner Jeff Gordon leading by 9 points of his Hendrick teammate Jimmie Johnson.). There is still six races left in the chase, I will say that both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson are had chargers right now and seem to be unbeatable at times, but I wouldn’t count out any driver in the top 6.At this time last season, Jimmie Johnson was a full race out of the lead by -156 points behind Jeff Burton going into Charlotte and we all know he won the championship by 56 points over second place Matt Kenseth. So really any driver that’s around 210 points back, still has a good shot at victory. Really all one of these drivers really need is six races of top 5’s and top 10 finishes. The track is being dried at MIS. Looking at the radar it looks like they have a pretty good opportunity to get this race underway and maybe get at least 101 laps in to make it official. There definetly is more rain the area and from looking at the radar it is building and heading in the general area of Brooklyn, MI where they are trying to get the 3M Performance 400 underway. But, if you are optomistic like I am, I see the radar showing that the rain will go slightly north of Brooklyn. But I am no meteoroligist.
