      McCain at the NAACP Convention
He gave a solid, but not inspiring, speech which was pretty well received considering the audience's strong pro-Obama leanings. What's more important to me though is the fact that he actually bothered to speak there considering how few votes he'll garner for his troubles. However I think he seemed more like the McCain of 2000 than anything we've seen of late. It was a good first step by McCain to

McCain Talks To The NAACP And Praises Obama
I am starting to get a little ticked off at John McCain with his "hands-off Obama" attitude. Whenever I hear an interview with John McCain he is usually ends up bashing his fellow Republicans and patting Obama on the back, a very odd strategy. What happened to the "straight talk express"? Many Conservatives are scratching their head's wondering why McCain has passed on the many opportunities he h

The blame game. No accountability. If Barack Obama were to become president (God FORBID) where would Jeremiah Wright’s chips fall? Think about it. NAACP President comes to the support of Ron Paul (video)
This is a response by Nelson Linder of the Austin Texas NAACP to claims of Ron Paul being a white supremacist. I do not think that Ron Paul is a white supremacist myself. I do think that Scott Horton of Anti War Radio doing the interview on the tape is knee jerk liberal judging by his ranting about the Austin Police Department supposedly killing unarmed blacks. Austin, Texas is one of the most liberal cities in the country. The link to the video was left in a comment to this post here at TPB.

Overstock.com CEO Lashes Back At NAACP!!!
Overstock.com CEO, Patrick Byrne, fumed at the NAACP after the group took some debate remarks out of context. Byrne said in a public statement:"Recently, video-taped comments I made in a school voucher debate setting were edited and posted online. Subsequently, some journalists erroneously claimed that I dismissed these statements as having been taken out of context. This assertion is false. In fact, my claim is far stronger: the clip is a lie, because it inverted what I actually said, which is far worse than simply being 'taken out of context'."The NAACP is not, by its nature, a research organization, so their having misconstrued the situation is regrettable but understandable. However, it was irresponsible for journalists to take these claims at face value. It is hard to believe, but shoddy reporting still manages to disappoint me."I wonder when more companies will start taking a stand against "shoddy reporting". Wal-Mart could've said the same thing years ago! Sprint finally told

Westboro Church Founder A Democratic Politician Honored By NAACP
Much has been said recently in the media about the group known as "Westboro Baptist Church" that protests at the funerals of dead soldiers by carrying signs proclaiming such messages as "Thank God for dead soldiers." However little has been said about the group's founder, Frederick Waldron Phelps. Many may find it quite interesting that Phelp's ties and activities reach far beyond that of the organization he founded.Phelps was born in Mississippi, in 1929. He became an attorney and was awarded special honors by the NAACP for cases he tried in the 1970s and 80s. However he was permanently disbarred from practicing law in 1987 for slander, libel, extortion, and harassment.Phelps is a registered Democrat that has ran for the Democratic primary for governor in Kansas three times (1990, 1994, and 1998). He was ranked as the 5th "Most Interesting People in Politics" by John F. Kennedy, Jr., in George Magazine. It appears his actions with one group overshadows those with others.http://ww

      Censorship, Abortion And The NAACP
Black Women Have 36% Of All Abortions In Americaby Akindele AkinyemiThis is the second time in three years that leaders of the NAACP kept its membership from considering a resolution expressing concern for the right to life. This year's pro-life resolution, sponsored by the Macon, Georgia NAACP chapter and whose campaign was led by the Georgia state president, was to bring attention to the harmful effects of abortion on African-American women. According to the Reverend Clenard Childress of Life Education and Resource Network, 1,452 black women abort their unborn children every day - which is 36 percent of all abortions in America.NAACP leaders say the members in Macon were told in advance, by letter, that their resolution was dismissed on a technicality. It's a letter the Macon chapter says it never received.Nonetheless, Reverend Childress says the rejection still violated the NAACP's bylaws, which allow resolutions to be presented and read by state chapters on the floor of the conve

      NAACP Wants Vick To Play
In a recent article, it was released that NAACP leaders wish for Michael Vick to return to the NFL, after he serves whatever sentence he is about to receive."As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football," R.L. White, president of the NAACP Atlanta chapter, told reporters. "We further ask the NFL, Falcons, and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country."I disagree. The NFL has "standards." The players need to understand that when they accept their roles on the team, they are agreeing to be professionals. When we take Vick's attitude in the past, including his excessive use of the finger, he has proven to be anything but professional. His football abilities are great, and nobody should argue that, but his professionalism is unacceptable.Vick should have been tossed from the league long ago. This dog fig

      NAACP Buries the N Word
From the WaPo:NAACP Symbolically Buries N-WordDETROIT -- There was no mourning at this funeral. Hundreds of onlookers cheered Monday afternoon as the NAACP put to rest a long-standing expression of racism by holding a public burial for the N-word during its annual convention.Delegates from across the country marched from downtown Detroit's Cobo Center to Hart Plaza. Two Percheron horses pulled a pine box adorned with a bouquet of fake black roses and a black ribbon printed with a derivation of the word. The coffin is to be placed at historically black Detroit Memorial Park Cemetery and will have a headstone."Today we're not just burying the N-word, we're taking it out of our spirit," said Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. "We gather burying all the things that go with the N-word. We have to bury the 'pimps' and the 'hos' that go with it." moreI wish it were that easy. I'm also wondering if it'll backfire since making the word even more taboo will only increase its shock value whi

The NAACP Funeral for the N-Word
The NAACP is symbolically holding a funeral for the n-word today. According to Julian Bond, the Chairman of the NAACP, the initiative is being spearheaded by “seven young people” on the board of directors and is not an action being prompted by older members of the organization. The symbolic burial will be part of the 98th annual NAACP convention, which kicked off yesterday in Detroit. During the “burial” supporters will march from the Detroit convention center to a downtown plaza. At that time, they’ll read a eulogy for the n-word.In addition to burying the n-word, the NAACP has been in discussions with rappers and other entertainers to discuss removing the word from their music. To read more about the n-word funeral, click on the following link: http://www.naacp.org/events/convention/98th/funeral/index.htm.Where do you stand on the issue of the n-word? NAACP President Hits the Road
"Mr. Gordon was a creature of the corporate boardroom" - NYTimesNot breaking news at this point.Said Bruce S. Gordon: “In order for any organization to be effective, there has to be a tight alignment between the C.E.O. and the board; that alignment in this case does not exist.” Said Julian Bond: “We want it to be a social justice organization; he wanted it to be more of a social service organization. Our mission is to fight racial discrimination and provide social justice. Social service organizations deal with the effects of racial discrimination. We deal with the beast itself.”What I hear from Bond? 'We want to fight racial discrimination, even when non-existent.' This is not to say racial discrimination does not exist, just not to the degree the NAACP sees it.DeMediacratic Nation Blogrolls

NAACP President Resigns After 19 MonthsBy ERIN TEXEIRAThe Associated PressSunday, March 4, 2007; 2:57 PMNEW YORK -- NAACP President Bruce S. Gordon is quitting the civil rights organization, leaving after just 19 months at the helm, he told The Associated Press Sunday.Gordon cited growing strain with board members over the group's management style and future operations."I believe that any organization that's going to be effective will only be effective if the board and the CEO are aligned and I don't think we are aligned," Gordon said. "This compromises the ability of the board to be as effective as it can be."He spoke by phone from Los Angeles, where he had just attended the taping of the NAACP Image Awards.Dennis C. 38th NAACP-Image Awards
This year the show took place at L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium, and i must admit that it was the nicest Image Awards I've ever viewed-Jada came out sans Will (he's filming); she looked amazing, and The Pursuit of Happyness won for best picture-Another winner was Tracy Ellis Ross. She took home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy. She was beautiful in this classic black dress......But......I'm still mad that she didn't let Evan (her brother) know about his foolishness before they left the house-Moving along,Sanaa Lathan was smokin' in this red dress-Also, Vanessa Williams brought her FINE daughter to the event, and America Ferrera came through as well. Ugly Betty took home the award for Best TV Comedy- Tyra came out in a beautiful way......but her & Naomi need to stop frontin'...they still don't like each other-Mary was pretty in pink-And i was happy to see my teen crushes Megan Good & Tia Mowryget together for a cute pic-My favorite TV parents, Rev.
