      Mystery car
I came across the old car mouldering in a timber yard on the edge of Horni Plana. It looked so neglected, so forlorn and yet you could see that it once had been a fine car. I showed this photo to my husband - who as a boy had swallowed the Observer Book of Automobiles whole and usually can still tell the make of car from a distance. At first he thought it was a Citroen, but then thought better and suggested it was a 1930's Tatra. I appeal to anyone who knows to let us know one way or another. But, as this is a blog about the Czech Republic, the former Czechoslovakia and all things Czech, I shall assume it is a Tatra - as it allows me to blog about this fascinating car manufacturer. Its story is in some ways a mirror of the history of the Czech people. In the first part of the last century

      Devine Mystery
At one point along a river in Canada, the water rushes though a chasm between two rugged rock formations. Their pinnacles tower into the sky, and their bases are buried deep in the foundation of the earth. Early pioneers were so awestruck by these majestic crags that they named them Trinity and Eternity. So too in Christian revelation. these two great truths create a sense of awe in the heart of the believer. The Bible tells us of God's eternity His successfulness and timeless existence (Ps. 93:?), and His trinity-the threefold expression of Himself as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19).Both of these affirmations baffle our minds. If we try to comprehend either of them, the question asked by Job's friend comes to mind: "Can you search out the deep things of G

At the JavaOne keynote this held at the Moscone Center this morning, EVP of software Rich Green took the stage and told the assembled crowd, mostly developers, "Welcome to the revolution. Businesses used to drive technology adoption, but now it's all about consumers." Which suggests the company, known historically as an enterprise hardware and software provider, is changing focus to enable more consumer-focused applications. Not mentioned? Last week's announcement of a $34 million quarterly loss and a stock price that has hardly improved since plummeting 20 percent. But look everybody, Neil Young! The company then trotted out the likes of Ian freed, Amazon.com's VP on the Kindle project, and Rikko Sakaguchi, SVP at Sony Ericsson, to explain how their devices were using Java. A S

They were discovered in 1979 by Voyager 1.Not until the Galileo spacecraft, orbiting Jupiter from 1995 to 2003, did scientists figure out the rings were made of dust kicked up by meteoroids slamming into Jupiter's inner moons.Yet oddities remained that didn't match theoretical predictions: The rings protrude beyond the orbit of the moon Thebe, and part of the ring system is tilted compared to the main ring plane.Alternating li

It was developed and popularized by Erik Von Markovik, who also goes by the name of Mystery.Von Markovik claims to have been a late bloomer, not hitting puberty until the age of 16 and not losing his virginity until the age of 21. Frustrated with his loneliness and inability to meet women, he set out on a study to learn how to be successful. After years of research and thousands of approaches, he developed his method of seducing the other sex.He classifies people by two values, their S and R value. "S" stands for the survival value and "R" stands for their replication value. Women tend to evaluate men based on their "S" value and men judge women for their "R" value

You see, Brian Rinaldi noticed a theme in posts, and others have noticed it in titles and other hints. For each of his "Layer" posts, there is a title associated with a letter.  Take them all together and thus far we have SLIDE. But what does that mean?  Is he trying to tell us something?  Is there a new project?  Maybe he is changing his name?  Slide Sharp.  I like it! To find the answer we must dig deeper. Just where exactly I am not sure.  I spent a couple hours last night starting with his first blog posts 2005/6.  But it turns out there is nothing there.  At least thus far.  Just 2007 and 2008 to go through now.

I've gotten on a botanical blog site and asked for help in identifying it. Prior to showing this picture, the thing that sounds closest are peach or almond, or a cultivar/cross between the two. Dial 'M' For Mystery
I've been getting loads of unknown calls lately. It's puzzling as I rarely give out my handphone number to strangers. There was one missed call I received at 1.30am, way past my bedtime. I still wonder who that mystery caller is... not that I have any admirers, mind you! I could always call the number coz it's still in the phone's memory but I

Mystery No-Name HTC Revealed In Pic [Smartphones]
The phone blogs are abuzz with this sighting of HTC's lineup, showing both existing models and a mystery or two on the bottom row. Boy Genius thinks the first, third and fourth are the same, but I'm wondering if the first is a slide-out key version of the second (a P3470), while the third and fourth are something else entirely. In any case, it's a peculiarity that will hopefully be clarified soon, as it's also a damn nice looking phone. WinMo, Android or whatever, we'll be ready to have a look. In the meantime, your guess is as good as ours. (Hint, hint.) [BGR]
