OzoneHip-Hop legend. Re-Emerging Star. Southern Rap Pioneer. All of these words describe Pimp C, one-half of hip-hop duo UGK. Chad Butler (i.e. Pimp C) was found dead in his LA Mondrian hotel room on Tuesday. A cause of death has yet to be determined however investigators do not suspect foul play. UGK opened the doors for many other Houston rappers such as Mike Jones, Slim Thug and Paul Wall to gain commerical success. Pimp C played a key role in the rise of Southern hip-hop and the UGK hit "Big Pimpin'" introduced his talent to those outside of the Houston city limits. Pimp C is the second Houston area rapper to die in the past few months. Kenneth "Big Moe" Moore died two months ago of a heart attack. John "Big Hawk" Hawkins was shot and killed outside his home in 2006. As a Houston native, my heart truly goes out to Pimp's family during this difficult time.
HollyscoopLosing a mother is never easy; especially when you shared a bond like Kanye did with his mother. 50 Cent actually seems (notice I said seems) very sympathetic to Kanye during this difficult time even though they shared a small beef over album sales earlier this year. When asked if he any words on the topic, he stated,"That's really an unfortunate situation and I hope he can work his way through it..."It's good to see him actually touring: You can work your way back into a comfortable space where you can deal with those situations."Work your way through it? 50 that sounds kinda heartless to ME. AOLAnyone who knows ME, knows I'm a HUGE Ne-Yo fan. When I heard that he had been added to R. Kelly's Double Up tour, my heart thumped with joy. Unfortunately, it seems that I have celebrated prematurely. According to the latest reports, Ne-Yo has been dropped from the Double Up tour due to some contractual issues. When asked about his dismal, here's what Ne-Yo had to say,"I am disappointed that I won't be able to perform for my fans. I love being on stage in front of fans because of the immediate feedback you get... You know right away if they are feeling you; and they were really feeling our show."Ne-Yo we are dissapointed too. I hope these matters can be resolved because I need my Sexy Love.Source
AOL ImagesFor those who follow hip-hop news, you are well aware of TI's recent run in with the law. Currently on house arrest, he released his first video statement since it all went down. He maintains his innocence and encourages us all to hold on for the bumpy ride. I honestly hope everything I've been hearing in the news is alot of media hype because the streets needs it's savior. Stay tuned...AP Wire Kanye lost his mother last weekend and the reports are pouring in regarding her cause of death. The most recent report states that she died due to complications during a recent plastic surgery operation (tummy tuck and breast reduction). Kanye and his mother were extremely close so I understand the degree of grief he must feel. My prayers are extended to the West family during this time of grief.

Here are a few short bits from some of my favorite music blogs. You can always visit my link blog to see all the stories (both music and non-music related) that I've been checking out: John Grillo discusses the IRIS Orchestra - John Grillo (a frequent collaborator for the blog and the podcast) writes about the IRIS Orchestra's opening night concert, the first opening night I have ever missed since the orchestra's inception in 2000. Wyoming? Check! - I am having a particularly fun time following this blog because the author has recently joined the South Dakota Symphony, my former orchestra. Hearing about the goings-on of this orchestra through the eyes of a South Dakota newcomer is very interesting to me, and I really enjoy the author's writing style as well. Un gorilla dalle 800 libbre - Michael Hovnanian writes about the Chicago Symphony musicians' various attitudes about potentially having Riccardo Muti as music director of the orchestra on his CSO Bass Blog. Mariah Carey aka MiMi is currently recording the all-important follow up to her multi-platinum 2005 monster hit, "The Emancipation of Mimi. Right now she's laying down a couple of tracks in Virgin Islands which is set to be released in a couple of months. She's brought along hit songwriter Bryan M. Cox to sumbit some tunes to the album. Word is Mimi is also getting much props in the acting arena for her role in the upcoming flick "Tennessee" Supposedly she performed so well, you'll be sure to forget the disaster called "Glitter." Yeah...we'll see about that! Well just when we got all hyped about Kelly Rowland, yup she gets pushed back YET AGAIN! But don't fret! According to her site, it's only being delayed by a week, so instead of June 26th- the release date is now set for July 3rd. And the sabotage continues. On the real Kelly leave the Knowles camp...isn't clear to you by now...YOU are not their priority! In the meantime, here's her 2nd singleLISTEN/DOWNLOAD-> KELLY ROWL
Reportedly Justin Timberlake does not want to be considered a 'pop' star. The former 'N Sync frontman desperately wants to be considered solely an R&B artist.
