I came across a few Nintendo Wii add-ons that are (to me) pretty funny. The first is a somewhat copy of Nintendo's own Wii Zapper, except the Wii Infrared Laser Magnum Gun is more realistic, and has a little cheat device implemented in it. With the built in, not only can you shoot Wii ducks with a semi-realistic gun, but you can do it in style with a laser pen attached. I think I am missing the point of it, but it seems to me like it would be useless...especially at a price of $20.The second I saw was the Wii Z Sword Remote. With this bad boy you can hack and slash your way through your favorite games, literally. Both these products seem kind of odd to me, but what do I know, I have only played the Wii once. A lot of people I know had already seen it, but I didn't got the chance to. But yesterday I went to the library to get myself a new movie to watch, and tadaa, it was there: Perfume, The Story Of A Murderer. So last night I immediately watched it and I have to say, everyone who told me this film is very good is right. There are so many things to love. First off, it's a very accessible film and highly enjoyable for people who like the smaller indie art flicks and the more big budget blockbusters. Tom Tykwer, highly respected director and someone I've been following ever since the great Lola Rennt, does an amazing job bringing the big novel of writer Patrick Süskind to the big screen. On Saturday, my crew, consisting of Makeup Artist Charlotte Bentley (NY), Hair Stylist Linh Nguyen (DC) and Fashion Stylist Opè (DC), shot two separate editorials. It was a long day, but well worth it. Of course, I have worked with Linh & Opè before, but this was my first time working with Charlotte; She is young, but brilliant at what she does. We began shooting at 10 AM and wrapped around 12:30 AM. Director Park Jin-pyo’s 2005 film “You Are My Sunshine’’ was the most successful melodrama in history, selling over 3 million tickets. The seemingly trite tearjerker obtained credibility because it was based on the true story of a man who loves a woman with AIDS. The director’s fictional account gave viewers a chance to explore the hidden sides of the story. The film, “Voice of a Murderer,’’ was inspired by a 1991 kidnapping. It remains too faithful to the horrific crime, coming across more like a long reconstructed television crime docudrama. The only difference is that some of Korea’s biggest stars are cast in the leading roles. In the film, Han Kyong-bae (played by Seol Gyeong-gu) is a successful television news anchor whose peaceful life with his wife, Oh Ji-son (Kim Nam-ju), is crudely interrupted when their 9-year-old son is kidnapped. Kyong-bae believes that everything will be fine and he will see his son again once he pays 100 million won in ransom. B

We don't know if it has already screened in New Zealand but we have just returned from a rainy Sunday afternoon at the cinema watching "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer". The cinema was miniscule with 27 seats and almost a full house. No ads, no breaks just the movie. This tale is a must see with the same magical feel as Chocolat but darker (Dark Chocolate?). In some ways it has a lot in common as Chocolat focuses on taste, Perfume is about smell. It is the story of a child born in the slums of Paris in the 18th century with an extraordinarily powerful sense of smell. The tragedy is that he has no body odor himself. How that is a problem you'll have to see the movie but he becomes obsessed with making the worlds best perfume. Rarely a film of this character comes along. It is visually appealing, original, and captivates you from its beginning to interesting conclusion. Oh yeah, there are hot red head chicks in it too.
