Announced yesterday, the new Turok Multiplayer Map Pack is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace at the nice price of 400 Microsoft points. This 307.7MB download features five multiplayer maps including Break Out, Desolation, Sentinel, Inconclusive Tests and A Rivalry Continues each breaking down to around $1 per map. The Heroic Map Pack is coming on December 11 and will include a big-ass indoors map called Rat’s Nest for large team battle mayhem, a medium-sized outdoors map called Standoff, and an industrial warehouse map called Foundry that should be mostly suited for Forge madness.Sounds great, right? Wrong! The Map Pack will cost a ridiculous 800 MS points ($10). Think about it. You can buy Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 points. That’s just stupid. IGN and Epic sent word this morning that Unreal Tournament 3 will use GameSpy's online technology for multiplayer match ups.The announcement makes sense, given that GameSpy joined Epic's Integrated Partners Program in August, marrying the company's technology with Unreal Engine 3 and permitting cross-platform play across both the PC and PS3.According to a statement, both versions of UT3 will leverage off of GameSpy's tools for multiplayer matchmaking, in-game and out-of-game messaging, tracking players stats, VoIP messaging, and online ranking and leaderboards. In Fragile Alliance, up to eight players work against the police to pull off a series of heist scenarios, but that's not to say that they're working together. So through the good folk at fileplanet.com, I managed to get a Key for the Crysis Multiplayer Beta Test. I downloaded the client which is not huge at around 1.38gb. Installation The installation went well, with no problem reported at all. I fired it up straight away before checking any of the game setting and joined a server. I quickly disconnected as the resolution was 800 X 600 and it looked like a Beta of Far Cry, rather than Crysis. The interface is functionally. It is what is to be expected from a quasi futuristic game like Crysis…kind of like the interface you see in movies…ie slick. I ran the auto-detect tool that set my setting to High!!!! I was surprised that it had? I upped the resolution to 1280 X 1024 and put the AA on full. I re-joined a server and was presented with an amazing vista (not windows pun intended). One of the top questions that have been asked by fans has been “how is the multiplayer going to work?”. Well, these videos are sure to alleviate any worries you may have that the Stranglehold multiplayer would somehow be broken. I especially love how they’ve decided to do the “Tequila Bomb” attacks. As explained in the first video, you’ll have a meter that slowly fills up the longer you live. Once you’ve been alive a certain amount of time, your meter will fill. Once full, you’ll be able to do a Tequila Bomb, which has been shortened in multiplayer to about two seconds. By doing it this way, the game will be far more balanced than it would be if you had one guy just dropping bomb after bomb after bomb. As part of their Leipzig Games Convention lineup, Codemasters has made it known that they’ll be putting out an add-on for Overlord that will add a split-screen multiplayer mode to the game.There isn’t any specific date mentioned as to when we can expect it, just a vague “soon” that probably means one of two things: either 1) “We just thought of this the other day, so we’ll get to work on it soon” or 2) “We’ve been working on it, but we’re running into complications”. Bandai Namco recently announced that the home console port of Tekken 6 on the Playstation 3 will be featuring a full multiplayer component allowing for one on one duels between Tekken fans. The announcement, which was made at the recently held Playstation Premier event in Japan, finally confirms the wide spread belief that Tekken 6 would be following its predecessor, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection, and its sister franchise, Soul Caibur, online when it is finally released for home gamers. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime showed off at Nintendo’s E3 2007 press conference when you can expect to see Mario Kart Wii makes its way to your Wii. The official Mario Kart Wii release date is Q1 2008. Frantic multiplayer racing returns in an online multiplayer racing mode that also includes a battle mode. The latest issue of American games magazine EGM has revealed that Bandai-Namco’s Soul Calibur IV will have online multiplayer when it’s released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008. To quote: “What’s changed this time round is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place,” says Soulcalibur IV Director Katsutoshi Sasaki. “We’ve heard from fans that they really want the game to be online, so we figured that, with the current environment, we really couldn’t make Soul Calibur 4 without online play.” With create-a-character being introduced in Soul Calibur III, the director confirms that it’ll return in Soulcalibur IV. When asked if it will work online as well, he answers: “We definitely want to allow users to fight with their customized characters during online play. But we’re unsure whether or not you’ll be able to trade characters with friends.”
