Why don't we see movements in America?
At the Exponential Conference in Orlando yesterday, someone asked Pastor Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan - "Why don't we see movements in America?"I am not sure about that....Trying to lead Americans is like herding cats. Bill Cosby contrasts cats and dogs. When you come home, your dog says, "Do you need anything?" - your cat doesn't look at you. Americans are difficult to lead. They are more complicated....Americans are too individualistic. That's one of the reasons we don't have movements. He also talked about 6 THINGS which churches that experience revival need to BALANCE:Dynamic WorshipA Strong Emphasis on Teaching and Preaching - "The purpose of a sermon is to make the truth real, not just clear."Major Emphasis on Life-Changing Community - "Life doesn't change i

      Fueling Multiplication Movements
The key question that every believer needs to ask is: “Do I want to be part of a movement of God’s people or do I just want to help grow a larger church?” While movements will result in the multiplication of churches, movements are not only about multiplying churches. The Church is the means or instrument to accomplish the mission. Essentially, movements are evidence of the missionary people of God aligned with God’s missionary heart. Multiplication movements are the work of the Spirit of God through Christ-followers who are being transformed day by day. The process of life transformation is not something that happens in a moment or even in a day or week. God develops and conforms believers to the image of His Son over their lifetime. He uses followers of Jesus who are in the p

“What distinguishes modern art from the art of other ages is criticism.”Article from http://www.eArtfair.com/blog -Octavio Paz Featured at http://www.eArtfair.com/blog By By Breiana Cecil The Modern Art Movements The Modern Art movements can be said to have begun in the mid 19th century. Up until this point, the artists of the world focused their artwork on realistic depictions of the world around them. They made their living solely on commission work, government sponsorship, and exhibitions chosen by government officials. Needless to say, a change was about to come. Insisting that there was more to express and teach through art was not only an artistic movement, but a social development as well. The first group dedicated to this change were the Impressionists in Paris, circa 1860. The term was coined by a Claude Monet painting called Impression, Sunrise. The artists belonging to the movement were the same artists who had been rejected by the Academie des Beaux-Arts&ndash

With very little known of the history of Korean art and with very few people with expertise in Korean art outside of Korea, it is almost as though the history of Korean art within the context of world art history has only just begun. The lack of understanding and knowledge of historical and classical Korean art has paved the way for contemporary art to take centre stage with many Korean artists leading the way with various forms of experimental media. Considering that Korea was absent from the art world until recently, Korean artists are in a position where they have the opportunity to basically create their cultural identity from scratch and determine their own arti

      Essential Reading: Multiplication and Movements
Jesus did not start a religion; He started a movement of spiritually transformed people on mission with Him. To better understand this movement from a historical perspective as well as its expression in the twenty-first century, Alan Hirsch’s The Forgotten Ways is a must read. Drawing on his own experiences in Australia, and both the first century movement in the early Church and the twentieth century movement in China, Hirsch unpacks the basic components of spiritual movements. He details the “quintessential elements that combine to create Apostolic Genius”1 which are present in every believer: 1) Christocentric Monotheism: “Jesus is Lord”, 2) Disciplemaking, 3) Missional-Incarnational Impulse, 4) Apostolic Environment, 5) Organic Systems, and 6) Communitas, not Community. Each of these chapters builds a deeper understanding of the foundational building blocks of movements. He also provides a valuable understanding of a missional church (82) and the dangers of consumerism

Hedge Volatile Energy Stocks in Your Portfolio Against Commodity Movements
For any investor who holds oil and natural gas stocks in their portfolio, the movement of those stocks is typically tied to the underlying commodity, not to the broader markets. Investing in energy stocks does not come without sharp volatility that may keep small investors on their toes and awake at night, but with the introduction of new Exchange Traded Fund products, investors now have a way to keep the overall movement to a minimum. The idea behind the strategy is that an investor has a long exposure to oil and natural gas companies and hedges that exposure with a short position in an oil or natural gas commodity ETF. For example: An investor has a $50,000 long exposure to oil companies and $25,000 long exposure to natural gas companies. To hedge his investment, the investor would sell short $50,000 of an oil commodity ETF, such as the iPath S&P GSCI Crude Oil Tot Ret Idx ETN (OIL), U.S. Oil Fund ETF (USO), Claymore MACROshares Oil Up Tradeable Tr (UCR) or PowerShares DB Oil

Neil Cole - The Absence of Movements in America
Neil Cole, author of Organic Church and founder of Church Multiplication Associates, shared his perspective with me yesterday on the absence of movements in America. He observes that the church often gets in the way. The problem stems from consumer Christians who are willing to sit and soak and let the pastor serve them, instead of getting involved themselves. He asserts, “People in the pews are irresponsible, and pastors let them stay that way.” Codependent pastors allow dysfunctional churches to exist. This prevents missional movements from ever starting. Neil also recognizes that movements are more likely to happen overseas because of liminality. In many countries around the world there is a great struggle for Christians (including persecution) that purifies what it means to be a Christian. In the midst of that struggle, authentic followers of Jesus emerge that more naturally embody the mission and message of Jesus. They multiply disciples because that is the essence of foll

      Multiplication Movements in Southern India

When I arrived at the airport that morning, I discovered that my flight had been changed and wouldn’t depart until after midnight. I headed back to the hotel to connect with BGU classmates and get some rest until it was time to return to the airport. While enjoying a cup of coffee with Viju Abraham and Jim & Sara Caldwell, Joshua Pillai entered the lobby. Viju introduced me to him and after just a brief conversation, I sensed that this was a divine appointment. In fact, upon further reflection I began to wonder if my flight was changed because God wanted me to meet Joshua and learn from his story.Joshua had pioneered and pastored a church for seven years with the Assembly of God in India. He worked very hard, but after seven years the church had grown to “only 200 people.” In prayer, he confessed to God that he wanted to pastor a church o

“Why aren’t there church multiplication movements in the United Sates?”
As I continue to write my dissertation, I’ve been curious why there aren’t any church multiplication movements in the US. I recently asked this question to Dr. Paul Kaak, Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership; Assistant Director of the Noel Academy for Strengths Based Leadership and Education (Azusa Pacific University). He suggested two main reasons:1. Churches are more concerned about the church than the kingdom of God. Pastors are by nature “ecclo-centric.” Their primary focus is on their own church and its growth and development. They view the church as the kingdom. This distorted view of the kingdom is seen in churches that focus on their own growth, rather than on extending the kingdom of God.2. Churches don’t understand the Gospel. It’s not the Gospel of getting to heaven – it’s the Gospel of the kingdom. If a person comes to faith in Christ as King (not just as Savior), there is a greater understanding and commitment to announcing the kingdom and extendi

      Dog communication (Body movements)
Dog communication comes in a variety of forms. Dogs use certain movements of their bodies and body parts and different vocalizations to send signals to other dogs, animals and humans. There are a number of basic ways a dog can communicate. Tail How high or low the tail is held, in relation to how the dog’s breed naturally carries their tail, and how it is moved can signify the dog’s mood and/or rank. The higher the tail is carried, the more dominant/confident the dog is; the lower, the more submissive/insecure. A tail held straight up, or even slightly curved over the back, shows that the dog is very dominant. If the fur on the tail is also bristled, the dog is saying they are willing and able to defend their position. Small, slow wags of the tail says the dog is questioning things around them. Either they aren’t sure if the target dog or person is friendly, or they aren’t sure what is going on or what is expected of them. Large, fast wags of the tail is a sign
