In my piece last week entitled “Bruton Smith – SMI: The tale of New Hampshire International Speedway and North Wilkesboro Speedway.”, I started to touch on this very topic of just what should Bruton smith and SMI do with the newly purchased historic North Wilkesboro Speedway land? Newly purchased Brian? With the purchase of the New Hampshire International Speedway now renamed New Hampshire Motor Speedway for 340 Million dollars, in that transaction, SMI also purchased Bahre’s 50% of North Wilkesboro Speedway and now that he owns the entire lot lock stock and barrel, what should he do with it?By now, NASCAR fans have read about Smith – SMI’s problems with Concord, NC about Smith wanting to build a drag strip on the site of his Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord and the city originally said “NO”. Of course right after that, Smith said he might consider moving the Lowe’s Motor Speedway from Concord to Charlotte just 20 miles or so miles away. Keep in mind that Lowe’s M

Hampton, Ga.Oct 08, 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Ryan Newman will attempt to become the driver with the most pole positions in Atlanta Motor Speedway history this Oct. 26 during Georgia-Pacific Qualifying night. Newman and NASCAR legend Buddy Baker are currently tied with seven AMS poles each, but Newman would like to see his number atop not only the scoring tower on Oct. 26, but also on top of the Atlanta Motor Speedway record book. "It would be an honor to beat Buddy Baker in all-time poles at Atlanta Motor Speedway, " Newman said. "Atlanta is a place where I enjoy qualifying and I have a great record there. I am really looking forward to trying to claim the all-time qualifying record. " If Newman were to claim the top-spot for the Oct. 28 Pep Boys Auto 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race, moving Baker to second-place, he would be de-throneing his friend and mentor. "Buddy and I always drove the tracks backwards because it gives you a different
Keep the Rosebowl openI'm going to reproduce in full the following statement from Mike Barry, owner of Tipperary Motor Speedway and promoter of drifting and hot rod racing events at the track:"Tipperary Motor Speedway faces a High Court battle on October 17th, 18th and 19th, 2007, to stay open. This case is being brought by one person who is a serial objector in the area. He was not happy with Judge Olive Buttimer’s handling of the injunction to close the track through the winter. The track has been before the Circuit Court five or six times from December 2006 through April 2007. This objector has been trying to stop car racing since 2001/2. Later, he included karting, and now he wants to stop car racing and drifting. He has been hassling the South Tipperary County Council for six years about planning permission at the track. He has used local politicians to arrange meetings to question our planning permission, and canvass the County Council. This is a recorded fact.He has told lies

The Avenue of Flags, which is a 265-foot walkway leading to the track's Smith Tower, will have a tribute to fans represented by their state flag. The 14 flags represent the states from which the most fans attend the track's three major NASCAR race weekends. State flags from North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Wisconsin, Maryland and Connecticut fly alongside the 18 American flags that line the walkway.I think this is a great idea, but it is so hard for me to bite my tongue regarding any 'hick' references with NASCAR. Soooo, rather than attacking the 'sport' as a whole, I will just individually break-down each state honoree with a character flaw found on the 'net...and somehow try to relate to them. Maybe once and for all I can dispel the prejudice in my tiny mind that all NASCAR fans are cousin-gropin' rednecks.North Carolina: "You faithfully drink Pepsi or Mt. Dew everyday of your life."
