What an incredible year it has been. Back in 2006 I wrote a short post about Motivating a sales team , mostly based on the idea of achievable targets and real incentives for the sales guys. For sure, the post didn’t discuss all the ways you could make sales people more committed and I’m not trying to do that now either. Sales people are usually success starved people. They are used to be the “stars” in any company - even if the company results are based on the entire team work, the sales are the ones that get all the fame by signing big contracts and bringing money in the bank. Moreover, good sales have a strong personality, they are outgoing and think well about themselves.
That’s why they feed on success. Put a great sales in an unsuccessful company and this will bring him down (even if he does good sales). Put him in a good company that is growing, getting good customers and make it to the newspaper
If there were an event during which we all did something that had a major, visible, positive impact, I think that would get us fired up. Like if we were all told to change all the light bulbs in our house to compact fluorescents on December 21 or something. They'd need to show how much energy we're consuming already, and then the change that our collective action effected. Happy people are easily motivated. Happiness is your birthright so don't settle for anything else. 5.)Spend at least one hour a day in self-development. Read good books or listen to inspiring tapes. Driving to and from work provides an excellent opportunity to listen to self-improvement tapes. 6.)Train yourself to finish what you start. So many of us become scattered as we try to accomplish a task. Finish one task before you begin another. 7.)Live fully in the present moment. When you live in the past or the future you aren't able to make things happen in the present.
