I’m an Olympic junkie. Sports that I would never stop a second for while spinning through the TV channels hold my attention. I’ll get caught up watching gymnastics and diving just for the human interest. I love the Olympics because it gives me a chance to watch sports like volleyball, water polo and track cycling [...]

Fear keeps most people from traveling. When I first went away in 2006, people always wished they could do what I was doing. For some people it is easy to just jump ship and travel. We have it in us all along and we just need a gentle nudge. For me, all it took [...]

*Disclaimer: This post is meant for moms who would like to help 'good' dads become even 'better.' If you really are married to a slack-ass-MF, then these tips might seem pointless. If you are one of those S-A-MF dads, for some reason the media thinks you represent all dads, which to me is extremely discouraging. Real men, no matter what their job is, do more than scratch their nuts and order their wives around.I'm tired of reading articles that reinforce the stereotype of the slacker dad versus the supermom. As I've written before, there are many kinds of dads, just like there are many kinds of moms. Men are not genetically inept at child rearing or house work, and women are not automatically programmed with a motherly instinct or a genuine love of cooking and cleaning. The majority o

Having worked Friday/Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend and being on call for the last 2 weekends to boot, one might say one is a little pissed off with work. One might even go so far as saying one is so fucked off with his current employment, the thought of telling ones boss where to shove his fucking job is one I consider on a nanosecondly basis and hence a list of ways to keep yor staff happy and productive, especially when they've been busting a gut for you so you can have a break in your company paid for camper van...

Motivation is not only essential for adults, but also for children.
What they learn as children will have a huge impact on the rest of their lives.
There is no magic formula for motivating children but there are some lessons that have been shown to be effective:
1. Set right expectations. Expect your child to succeed, and her [...]
Basketball coaches have one of the most rewarding jobs, but it can also be one of the most challenging. The following are secrets keeping your team focused, motivated, and playing as hard as they can all season long. YOUR FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE "Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others; it is the only means." Albert Einstein Establish a standard on the first day of practice.Establishing your expectations from the very beginning is the best way to not only establish your role within the team but to also let your players know what kind of coach you're going to be. As your first practice is starting, and your players are milling about, blow your whistle and call them to the center of the gym. If they don't sprint to you, they get to run, immediately. After they've run,

As parents we love to praise our kids. We praise them for absolutely everything they do. A drawing that they did, a good grade they got on a paper, a touch-down they got or cleaning up their room without being told - these are fair examples. We feel this is the proper positive reinforcement they [...]

What an incredible year it has been. When I started on Active Rain earlier this year, I had no idea what an exciting adventure this would turn into, and the impact it would have on my Blogging experience. I have spent so many early and late night hours learning all about Blogging, the People, and the Power of Active Rain. There is so much to learn here, and so many willing people that will share. Most of all, I have learned about "paying it forward" by "giving it back." I have met some of the most wonderful people on the planet here, and have shared memories, laughter, tears, and very special times with many of you. Most of my posts here, were inspired and motivated by all of YOU. In looking back at the year, I now realize the importance of my time here, and the significance this place has had for me personally and professionally. I used to think, "Where will it all eventually lead?" I'm here to tell ya,
Back in 2006 I wrote a short post about Motivating a sales team , mostly based on the idea of achievable targets and real incentives for the sales guys. For sure, the post didn’t discuss all the ways you could makeĀ sales people more committed and I’m not trying to do that now either. But I really have to mention another important factor in motivating a sale team: success.
Sales people are usually success starved people. They are used to be the “stars” in any company - even if the company results are based on the entire team work, the sales are the ones that get all the fame by signing big contracts and bringing money in the bank. Moreover, good sales have a strong personality, they are outgoing and think well about themselves.
That’s why they feed on success. Put a great sales in an unsuccessful company and this will bring him down (even if he does good sales). Put him in a good company that is growing, getting good customers and make it to the newspaper
If there were an event during which we all did something that had a major, visible, positive impact, I think that would get us fired up. Like if we were all told to change all the light bulbs in our house to compact fluorescents on December 21 or something. They'd need to show how much energy we're consuming already, and then the change that our collective action effected. If it was big enough, we'd probably be thrilled, and much more willing to change other things, as well.I think most people are only subtly, vaguely aware of how becoming more energy efficient will also save us money. We're spending on energy that we don't necessarily need. If we each modified our households to make them more efficient, we'd all be richer for it. Maybe Al Gore should make a new movie explaining how to get rich and save the world at the same time.I remember hearing that some people think it's better to leave the lights on because it saves on the heating bill, and some people like to drive

Knowing how to motivate your dog in training is an important concept. Your dog must want to follow commands and participate in training. There is a fine line between rewarding your dog and motivating your dog and the sooner you learn how to make the difference the better a trainer you will become.Motivating your dog is creating an environment where the dog has a desire to participate. When trainers learn how to motivate they usually learn to take it one step beyond. They create an environment where the dog actively tries to figure out what the trainer what him to perform. There are 4 methods to motivate your dog.1. Using food; 2. Using toys or prey items; 3. Using praise; 4. Using force (corrections).A trainer will learn how to mix and match these methods depending on the dog, the circumstances, the dog's level of training and the trainer's level of expertise. Keep in mind that some of these methods will work with some dogs in a particular circumstance while other methods may not infl

1.)Be willing to leave your comfort zone. The greatest barrier to achieving your potential is your comfort zone. Great things happen when you make friends with your discomfort zone. 2.)Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Wisdom helps us avoid making mistakes and comes from making a million of them. 3.)Don't indulge in self-limiting thinking. Think empowering, expansive thoughts. 4.)Choose to be happy. Happy people are easily motivated. Happiness is your birthright so don't settle for anything else. 5.)Spend at least one hour a day in self-development. Read good books or listen to inspiring tapes. Driving to and from work provides an excellent opportunity to listen to self-improvement tapes. 6.)Train yourself to finish what you start. So many of us become scattered as we try to accomplish a task. Finish one task before you begin another. 7.)Live fully in the present moment. When you live in the past or the future you aren't able to make things happen in the present.
When I mentioned that I speak quite a few languages (not all fluently though), I got some pretty positive reactions! If you’re looking for a good reason to learn another language, here are some motivating commercials that might inspire you:
That last one is my favorite one, when I saw it on TV, I couldn’t stop laughing for a while. You have to understand a BIT of French to get it. Everything he says you learn in an introductory French class. Here’s a translation of what he’s actually saying:
Hi, my name is Bill
Where is Pierre?
Pierre is in the washroom.
I work in a dance club.
Open the window, free.
Raspberry Juice!
Mmm… Library!
Here are three other commercials that I didn’t find as funny as the ones above but are still related. Warning on that third one, there is some explicit language!

At some point in our lives, we feel very much trapped in our place in this world and long to make something of ourselves. There are so many stories of successful people breaking the barriers and ultimately achieving their life long dreams but today the story in question belongs to a man named Peter Belisi. He started his fashion accessory company named Belisi after himself, at a time when he was down and out. Today Belisi has gained a strong following especially within the Palm Beach community and there is no looking back for this young and enterprising man. Do take sometime to visit his blog and read up on how he started in the business. The part I like best about his business model is how he emphasize on giving back to the community and build it into his business model. This is truly a case of the more you give, the more abundantly you will be rewarded in return.
