Em meados da década de 1990 os irmãos Godfrey (o DJ Paul Godfrey e o multi-instrumentalista Ross Godfrey) mudaram-se para Londres recrutaram Skye Edwards como vocalista, que eles haviam conhecido em uma festa de house music. A trajetória do grupo começou em 1996 com o lançamento do álbum Who Can You Trust?. O sucesso do disco foi mundial, o que levou a banda a ter como parceiros musicais um de seus ídolos (David Byrne pediu pessoalmente que a banda trabalhasse em seu álbum solo).
