I mentioned the other day that I'm covering local community college classes while the teacher is away. This involves little other than taking roll and showing movies. The classes that I covered at the college today got to watch a video on justice and morality in political philosophy. I expected it to be pretty dull. I majored in PolySci and know that it takes a very engaging professor to bring political philosophy to life; sadly many of the PolySci profs out there are lacking in the needed skill to prevent one from nodding off. This film turned out to be quite interesting. It consisted of excerpts from a lecture class at Harvard University. The professor doing the lecturing was quite witty, and I (and the Harvard students) frequently laughed out loud. Meanwhile, my classroom was filled with blank expressions. At one point in the film, pi was mentioned. One of the students, confused, looked at the one next to her and said, "Wha's he talkin' 'bout pie for?" to which the response was

According to this speaker tabs list, I was the best speaker for the Manila Inter-varsities held at St. Paul last Thursday. Though it’s great to be acknowledged as an individual, I would have really preferred to have fought tooth and nail for the championship. Unfortunately, my team was a victim of a confluence of nasty circumstances that made us under perform during the third round. That sent us to the exit, basically. Despite sweeping the first two rounds, a lackluster round three score of a whopping ZERO kept us out of the finals. A lot of people felt that the decision was somehow weird, but I’m at peace with the round. We could’ve done better - had we known our matter on reality-based modeling shows (THBT women should celebrate reality-based modeling shows), we would’ve surely made the finals. Oh well.

Yesterday I was involved in a motorbike accident in Kupang, West Timor. Basically, a twelve year old kid drove straight into me, while I was indicating to go right. He was way too fast and he didn’t have a drivers license. Both of us had friends on the back, but luckily nobody got hurt apart from a few bruises and scratches. But this post isn’t actually about the accident. There was never any doubt in anybodys mind, that I was to blame whatsoever. Shit happens…
All of us went back to my guest house, where the owner of my bike tried to sort out the whole mess. He thought the damage to his bike will cost about 350.000 Rp (about 30 EUR or 35 USD) to repair. There was another foreigner present, who suggested that I pay for the damage, since I can afford it, whereas the parents of the kid will most likely have a hard time coming up with that kind of cash, it being almost a month’s salary.
