Is this the most extravagant monument to love? Built by the heartbroken Emperor Shan Jahan when his favourite wife (Mumtaz) died bearing her fourteenth child, this white marble Moslem mausoleum is one of the most iconic and reknown travel wonders in the world. Built by an estimated 20,000 workers over 20 years (400, 000 man hours of construction), this is a masterpiece in architectural symmetry.Ironically, the only non-symmetric aspect of the Taj Mahal is the tomb of Shah Jahan himself – buried next to his wife, whose tomb is exactly centered. The story goes that Shah Jahan planned to be buried in an identical monument in black marble on the opposite side of the river, a space which still lays vacant in this seething crowded city of over a million people. Goyeneche of the royalists moved forward to Cochabamba which had scarce resources to fight against the royal army. Brave women organized and attacked the Spanish army, headed by Manuela Gandarillas, which even though she was blind commanded the women army. They bravely resisted in the hill of San Sebastian in the place called "La Coronilla" which means *the small peak". After resisting bravely they were overcome by Goyeneche and he took Cochabamba on May 27th 1812.

      Montezuma Castle National Monument
Montezuma Castle is one of a number of well-preserved ancient dwellings in north central Arizona, including the Wupatki, Tonto, Walnut Canyon, and Tuzigoot national monuments. It is probably the most spectacular; an imposing 20 room, 5-storey structure built into a recess in a white limestone cliff about 70 feet above the ground. When first (re)discovered the ruins were thought to be Aztec in origin, hence the name bestowed on them by early explorers, but they are now known to belong to the Sinagua Indian peoples who farmed the surrounding land between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries, before abandoning the area. The National Monument: The castle is just two miles from I-17 (exit 289; north Camp Verde) at the end of a side road that winds across flat scrubland and down into the valley formed by Beaver Creek - a small stream, but a reliable source of water all year round and hence a good locality for the Sinagua to establish a home. Monument to Anti-Fascist Fighters Torn Down
A monument to the British who died in one of the bloodiest battles of the Spanish Civil War fighting against fascism has been torn down by right wing extremists. The plaque, naming the 90 Britons killed while fighting for the International Brigades at the Battle of Ebro, was removed from the site and the area covered with graffiti proclaiming that the right wing Falange Part was “still fighting”. The Falange once provided the political support to Franco’s fascist-backed forces but is now fractured into several parties that play no significant role in Spanish politics. Campaigners have already vowed to replace the monument. Over 2,000 British volunteers joined the International Brigades after the civil war broke out in 1936. More than 500 were killed and many more injured during the failed attempt to stop the forces led by General Franco, with help from Hitler and Mussolini, from imposing a military dictatorship. My Gallery - Victory Monument
Location: Victory Monument, Bangkok, Thailand. I took these photos with my Canon 400D, Kit 18-55 lens. Long exposure creates long light and star effect. Please feel free to comments (click each photo to see a bigger picture). Background info of the Victory Monument : The Victory Monument, also located within a traffic circle, was built to honor 59 officers, policemen, government officials and plain civilians who sacrificed their lives during the conflict between Thailand and French Indochina in January 1939. The monument is decorated with five statues representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and Civilian war heroes whose names are engraved on a bronze plate attached to the monument. Today, people tend to think of the Victory Monument as an area notorious for traffic congestion and as a hub for connecting buses to the outlying areas of Bangkok.

Aztlan Monument on the US Mexico Border
What can one possibly say about this pipe dream? The Monument to the Mexican Immigrant Project Between 1892 and 1954, 12 million “European” immigrants entered the United States through Ellis Island in New York Harbor, greeted by the Statue of Liberty “next door.” Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are now a “Memorial” for all the European immigrants who came mostly from Germany, England, Ireland and Italy. The landmark saves the memories and heritage of over 100 million Americans who can trace their immigrant roots here and includes the Immigrant Museum that offers visitors a chance to see what coming to America meant through film, archives, photos, recordings and the aura of the Great Hall. The “Memorial” also includes the Immigrant Wall of Honor, a circular monument containing 200,000 names commemorating immigrants who contributed significantly to the “building” of America. Blood is Truth presents Aarni, Manatees and Monument of Urns
92 votes (31%) Doom/Drone/Stoner Thanks for vote to everyone! AARNI Aarni - BathosDoom/Avantgarde/Freak/Finland Folk/Doom DownloadMirrorWebsiteAARNI are a crazy Doom band from Finland and they sound quite original. But also very exhausting for the typical Metalhead. Is that still Metal or Art Rock already? No idea – the fact is that AARNI create a very special atmosphere which seems pretty stoned eh dreamy. Complex soundscapes appear before your inner eye, which leave room for a self-interpretation. All in all a very appealing album, even though confusing at first. I haven’t heard anything comparable before. A relaxed sound which contains progressive, doomy as well as very dreamy passages and which either captivates you or doesn’t move you at all. I think there is no in between. Hurz! Firedoom, subsello de Firebox dedicado puramente a lo más lento y oscuro de su catálogo, nos ofrece el segundo álbum oficial de estos finlandeses, después de un split CD, que son más raros

      Hungarian Monument
The Citadella is one of the most exciting monuments in Budapest, Hungry. Built in 1854, the Citadella was the most despised structure in the city. The Austrians built this fortress to keep Budapest under their thumb. This structure sits on a hill and overlooks the entire city and the Danube River. I liked this online photo and proceeded to sketch it while looking at my computer screen. I used pencil first to get the basic structure and shapes, and drew in about half of the inkwork. I finished the remaining inkwork and watercolors at my drawing board.

More Homes Planned For Monument, Colorado
Monument has been booming lately. Homes have been going up like mad east of I-25 while Historic Monument west of I-25 has stayed, well, historic. According to an article in The Gazette, recent numbers show Monument has more than doubled in population within the last 6 years with plenty of new shopping centers going up including, yes a Wal-Mart. Historic Monument remains much the same, but not for long. The development and construction of homes in and around Historic Monument is set to begin in late 2007 to 2008 according to an article written by The Gazette. Over 150 homes will be built around Monument Lake which in my mind will provide some much needed "water view properties.” This development, dubbed Lake of The Rockies in Monument, will provide a nice niche market in the area. Other proposed developments in the area include Home Place Ranch, Promontory Pointe, Sanctuary Pointe, and Wakonda Meadows. It will be interesting to see how Monument's growth continues.Colorado

Latest status of snorkeling, hiking, kayaking at Kealakekua Bay and the Captain Cook Monument
I went down the hill today to check on what all's going on at the bay. When we had our earthquake back in October and they had landslides, the state basically shut the bay down. It's been reopened for recreational use, but it is more limited than before the quake. The hiking trail down to the bay has been officially closed for now. The DLNR has had an officer down at the wharf and park much of the time. Someone has put up informative plaques (one is pictured) down at the bay, which is quite nice, and they also have a booth down at the old wharf with this informative video (I linked this back in September, but here it is again) on snorkeling and critter care. They've set up buoys in the bay approximately 100' from shore in front of the monument and inside towards the beach. No boats/kayaks/snorkelers are allowed to land or swim within the buoys and they had a boat out there enforcing that. I guess this is supposed to go on indefinitely for now. Kayaks and snorkelers are a
