Juan Pablo Montoya (I miss the guy) again opened his mouth and spoke about F1, and of course about the Stepneygate and McLaren punishmen and about Fernando Alonso and Ron Dennis.Photo: GlediatorMontoya has his own experience with life under Ron Dennis. And he believes that there are similarities between his McLaren case and current problems between Fernando Alonso and Ron Dennis. And surprise surprise, guess whom he blames:"Ron, outside the work environment, is a great guy. But he's two different guys. The guy who I signed with and played golf with, he just didn't exist in the office. He was just a different person, you wouldn't even recognize him. He wants to control everything, and I think Fernando is (angry) about that because he is not used to someone controlling everything and did not like that Ron was like that. I think Ron is used to drivers who don't say anything back. They are very quiet and very nice and do what everyone says, and I came along and he didn't like that. No
Juan Pablo Montoya's Running Incident ListWhat is the real story with JPM?I've done some digging and put together some stats and incidents.Big picture, it isn't pretty. He has 28 NEXTEL Cup starts. He has had some kind of an incident in 19 of them and finished on the lead lap in only 11.Not all the incidents listed here were caused by his rough, aggressive or sloppy driving. However, there is an astonishing pattern here. Also significant, he has had incidents with (at least) the following 18 drivers (including eight of the 12 Chase drivers): Harvick, Burton, Johnson, Hamlin, Stewart, Newman, Gordon, Raines, Ragan, Earnhardt, Kyle Busch, Sauter, Gillaland, Blaney, Wood, Nemacheck, McMurray, Edwards, McCumbee.I'll be doing another post later on just exactly what all this means.JPM NNCS Sta
By Seth Livingstone, USA TODAYBROOKLYN, Mich. - Last week’s late-race wreck at Watkins Glen that led to a shoving match between Kevin Harvick and Juan Pablo Montoya on the track continued to produce opinions about Montoya’s aggressive style yesterday.
“He drives like he doesn’t know what he’s doing, to be honest with you,” said Harvick, who settled for 36th place after last week’s incident. “He can run fast but he’s all over the place and every week it seems like he runs into a different person. In four weeks it’s cost us a couple of hundred points and he shrugs it off like he doesn’t really care about anybody or anything.
“You make him mad and it’s: ‘Well I’ve got a five-year contract and I’ll just wreck you every week.’ It’s hard to talk to him and he doesn’t really respect anyone around him. … I’m not the only one with that opinion.”

The race at Infineon in Sonoma might have been won on fuel mileage, and strategy, but its very significant that the winner was Juan Pablo Montoya, and therefore it made news around the world. If Gordon, Johnson, or any other Nascar driver had won that race, it would have been big news in the US, but not elsewhere.
The fact that Montoya is a known celebrity from other forms of racing (the third driver to win in Formula 1, Indy cars (CART), and Nascar, following Dan Gurney and Mario Andretti) means that the world does notice. And the fact that he is a foreign national helps as well.
His notoriety also tends to reinforce Nascar’s ‘diversity’ program, adding a Hispanic to the lineup of stars and bringing Colombian flags to the raceways (particularly in Mexico City where he won the junior circuit (Busch) race, and in Sonoma.
In January 2007, after Michael Schumacher publicly questioned the excitement of NASCAR racing on ovals, Montoya retorted that “People don&rsqu
Formula 1 refugee Juan Pablo Montoya scored his maiden NASCAR Nextel Cup victory in California on Sunday and described it as one of the greatest moments of his career.
The Colombian, who split with McLaren and walked away from F1 halfway through last season, has had a difficult baptism in the alien world of stock car racing – impressing the locals with his speed but having only modest results to show for it.
But at Sears Point – the first of only two road course events on the Nextel Cup more…
Juan Pablo Montoya has had a pretty low profile year thus far in NASCAR with just one fifth place to his name in Nextel Cup races. But put him on a road course and the Colombian was able to walk all over the NASCAR men, who are much more used to racing on ovals.
Montoya’s victory at Sears Point (otherwise known as Infineon Raceway) in Sonoma, California, means that he is the first non-US born driver to win a race since Canada’s Earl Ross, who won a race at Martinsville in 1974 when driving for more…

Yes he and Ryan Newman traded some paint and yes Montoya hit the Alltel Dodge team member and front-tire carrier Scott Reineger on lap 41 when he pitted. McLaren has run out of excuses for why the Woking based team has not won a championship since 1999.That is the claim of Juan Pablo Montoya, who won three races in a silver single seater until he switched to the NASCAR scene last year. McLaren is under a lot of pressure now," the Colombian told the Spanish magazine Grand Prix, "because the drivers are new, the image is new; they have to get results."Referring to Fernando Alonso, Montoya continued: "With a world champion who has beaten Schumacher (in the team), they have run out of excuses."The 31-year-old fell out famously with McLaren's boss, but Montoya thinks Spaniard Alonso "will get on well" with Ron Dennis."The million dollar question is how the car and the engine will go," Montoya said.Despite McLaren's fine form on the winter tracks, he thinks the Mercedes-powered team will be beaten by Ferrari and his old teammate Kimi Raikkonen. But he said: "(Felipe) Massa might have a very good start (to 2007)."www.followkimi.blogspot.com
We are apparently turning into an entertainment tabloid, but these days it's hard to seperate the celebrities from the sports. Case in point, NASCAR this year hired American Midol Kelly Clarkson to be their celebrity spokesperson. One problem ... she missed the memo on what a spokesperson is actually supposed to do ... speak.
From the Gazette:
Kelly Clarkson, the one-time "American Idol"
