Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced today that his Consumer Protection Unit has obtained a civil judgment in a real estate fraud investigation involving local business owner Robert Janssen and his company Abbey Management, Inc. The judgment concludes the District Attorney’s investigation of the defendants’ role in advertising, marketing and providing services in selling real estate without California licensure. While defendants did not admit liability in agreeing to the judgment, they will pay $100,000 in penalties and victim restitution for their role in the sale of a single Salinas home last August 2006. According to the District Attorney’s civil complaint, the defendants engaged in false advertising and fraudulent business practices in the provision of real estate services and auction sales. But in spite of the gloomy outlook of the novel’s protagonists and the commentary on the changes in the agricultural landscape and those who work in it, the novel at least hinted at a part of the prosperity on the horizon.
Oceanographers have completed an important step in constructing the first deep-sea observatory off the continental United States. Workers in the multi-institution effort laid 32 miles (52 kilometers) of cable along the Monterey Bay sea floor that will provide electrical power to scientific instruments, video cameras, and robots 3,000 feet (900 meters) below the ocean surface. The link will also carry data from the instruments back to shore, for use by scientists and engineers from around the world. The Monterey Accelerated Research System (MARS) observatory, due to be completed later this year, will provide ocean scientists with 24-hour-a-day access to instruments and experiments in the deep sea. The project is managed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). So what's going on in Monterey Hills real estate market? I find it very curious that in the month of Septmeber no townhomes came on the market in Monterey Hills. New listings of Monterey Hills condos always remained at its lowest at only 2 condos that were listed.
Inventory, overall, is trending down each month from June to September with the sales at the all time low as well.&#
Monterey Hills real estate is in a flux of confusion right now. Even though the volume of available condos and townhomes on the market is quite low, the prices are dropping at a rapid pace. The area has been affected by a number of short sales and foreclosures that are pulling the sales prices down. Buyers are taking a "wait and see" attitude.
