Everybody knows that multi-table poker tournaments are different than sit and go tournaments, or even cash games. Because of the increasing blinds and top-heavy prize structure, the emphasis is on taking gambles to win the tournament, or at least final table, since that is where the money is to be made. “Go big or go home” is the old cliche.
Anyway, pretty much all of the best multi-table tournament players online employ a hyper-aggressive, high-variance style based on loose steals/resteals, big bluffs, and in general pushing with small edges. What I am interested in finding out in this simulation is whether increasing variance can increase one’s dollar EV in tournaments even in the absence of any player having an edge over another. Furthermore, how much of an effect does the blind structure and number of players in the tournament have on these results?

UPDATE : Much to the relief of his fans Andy Murray has officially pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters and will now have the time to full recover from a very busy schedule.I'm not sure how this will affect his ranking, but I would guess that he will lose the 5 points he gained last year by being knocked out in the first round. This won't change his position of 10, but he could be overtaken by players below him if they perform well this week.Nalbandian and Berdych would probably have to win the tournament to overtake Murray, so I'll keep an eye on the results in Monte Carlo. A member of the GM Inside News forum posted today that he received an email from General Motors announcing the end of the Monte Carlo. We rang up the General for confirmation and received word that the Monte Carlo is indeed being offed. May 4th will reportedly be the last day you can order a Monte Carlo and production of the car at GM's Oshawa plant in Canada will cease on June 20th. Apparently production of the Monte Carlo is being cancelled to make room for all those extra Malibu orders the automaker is expecting when the new 2008 model sedan begins production in October. This is the sixth generation Monte Carlo, and when asked if we'd see the name return on a new model in the near future, we got the canned answer from GM, "We do not comment on future product." Sigh.
