Well I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was...different. Friday night, I took myself home and vegged out. We're starting up some new shows, so it's been a busy week. I spent the night on the couch watching The Empire Strikes Back. I don't know why. Nerd. I know. I just had the urge. I also had a couple vodka-cokes to help to scenario. After a one-two punch of Paris Hilton and Heidi Montag, I need a little something to rejuvenate the soul. Namely Jennifer Aniston's sweet ass in a bikini. The world would be a better place if they could extract whatever makes that thing so sexy and put it in IV's at the hospital. Brain tumor? Have some butt juice. Broken leg? No problem.
NOTE: Totally noticed the chick's boob above Jennifer Aniston's head. Let's just say there was some deliberate cropping on my end. Feel free to call me the Da Vinci of mammaries. No, seriously, do it. I'll be your best friend.

Lykke Li is only 22 years old! Okay these days the youngens easily take the stage but still very cool. This young Swede has officially made her indie contributions with her new debut Youth Novels to the ever growing mega massive scene in Sweden. I dono what kind of connections she had to have to get Bjorn Yttling and Lasse Marten to produce her debut but mad props for it. She's sure to get huge! I think her voice commands a good amount of presence on this album. It's a somewhat soulful, indie mushgush pop, and some synth with playful lyrics to say the least. I particularly am diggin' Breaking It Up...does that kids choir sound like the one from D.A.N.C.E ? Does anyone else think that or am I taking crazy pills? I smell mash-up! It must be the school holidays as everytime I look out of my window I see kids rolling past. And I mean rolling. In my day they didn't build tiny wheels into the bottoms of shoes. What is this new and bizarre fad? Kids are all about multi-tasking these days.Well as you may have noticed I lost yet another 15p football accumulator this weekend. Master sitar player Ravi Shankar is one of those guys who seems like he's always been there... and not just there, but everywhere (as we noted last year). To some extent his daughters have taken over the family's portion of the global spotlight, but Ravi's music is still out there, still gaining new listeners. ARC has just released The Best of Ravi Shankar, a three-raag disc, and a few years earlier came The Rough Guide to Ravi Shankar, notable for a bit more variety as well as appearances by Zakir Hussain and Ali Akbar Khan. This is one of the shorter tracks on that latter CD, but it's no slouch, as the masters Shankar and Hussain play beautifully together.[mp3] Ravi Shankar with Zakir Hussain: Reflectionfrom The Rough Guide to Ravi ShankarToday is Ravi's birthday -- his 84th! The Italian captain of all things cool has recently selected his favorites for Viagem, a super dope compilation of '60s-'70s Brazilian Bosa Nova and samba jazz music from Far Out Recordings. This is the first in a series of DJ compilations to help celebrate and promote 50 years of Bossa Nova! That's right, 2008 marks the 50th anniversary of the birth of the beautiful Bossa Nova sound. Renowned producer Nicola Conte has shown us once again that thoroughly reflecting on the orginal sound is very important and necessary. These renditions, done by some of the most amazing artists, are nothing short of vintage fresh. I like to think of James Pants and his new album as a bit of a Cinderella story. He met Stones Throw head Peanut Butter Wolf at a rave after his high school prom. From there he would become a signed artist on the Stones Throw roster! James Pants makes a dope electro 80s soul, post funk sound. He doesn't just mix, sample, or spin, he's on the mic, on the keys, strummin' guitars, and hittin' the percussion. I also think there's this mix of ambient with hip hop that I totally dig. If you haven't heard about Bjorkestra, today's Case Of The Mondays is for you! Alto Saxophonist Travis Sullivan is the brains behind Bjorkestra and it's exactly what it sounds like; Bjork + Orchestra. Well Not exactly. Bjork isn't actually in New York's 18-piece orchestra but her songs definitely are. Bjorkestra has an extremely talented line-up including jazz vocalist Becca Stevens and they've even done projects with The Arcade Fire and Dr. Dre?! You can hear hints of electronics which adds well to their awesome experiments. They dropped a very special debut album called Enjoy in early January last year via Koch and I highly recommend pickin' that stuff up. It's only $7.99 via iTunes!!! What?! Bottom line, Bjork covers done right. Okay Okay without further adieu, we got some mp3s
I know I'm not supposed to judge by titles but the name of The Pharmacy's new album makes me reminisce about the Choose Your Own Adventure books. Those books were rad and pretty much I would always cheat cause I would always end up "die-ing" or whatever the punishment was for skipping paragraphs. Our friend Anna has never heard of these books...what?! (I'm old realization moment) They had sci-fi ones with killer robot armies and You Be The Jury which got right to the case. Antwerp-based Think of One are consummate musical explorers. On their last outing, Trafico, they coaxed the sounds of Brazil through their globalizing filters. This time around it's the strains of Moroccan Shaabi that feed their sound. This Berber wedding music may be less well known than Algerian Rai, but it's just as full of compelling rhythms and melodies. And Think of One's version of Shaabi is a right sturdy kick in the backside. Bits of dub, electronica, rock, and hip hop compel unconscious head-nodding or outright booty shaking in even the most collected listeners. This song, sung by Amina and Lalabrouk, tells of "certain dangers with which lonely female moviegoers can be confronted." Throughout the album, you'll hear lyrics varying from French, Arabic, and the Flemish dialect spoken

Back to Monday. Oh Monday, why do we hate you so? Why are you the least favorite day of the week for most "regularly scheduled" workers? Oh why Monday do you annoy us so?I tried to use reverse psychology on myself this morning by putting "YAY Monday" on my Facebook profile. Didn't work. My negative vibe kept attracting more negativity (there's that darn law of attraction); I discovered what I thought was my compensation during my maternity leave was no where close to reality, which really brought me down. Why Monday, WHY?Today I also noticed a few on-going oddities in my body that seem to have become worse. First, my right eye has been twitching since the middle of last week. Apparently, eye twitches may be caused by stress or fatigue - didn't think I was much of either, but apparently I am

The first thing that really caught my attention was how the band's name was derived, Check this out: Jeff, Jeff and Ryan, while studying in Florence, were drinking wine (lots of it) near the Arno River and they decided it would be a great idea to through the Chairs In The Arno. Random! Story gets better, Becca Hsu came on board and the band moved into the same house together and began to work at the same coffee shop! Late in '07, Chairs released their debut album File Folder off Mushpot Records. The album is packed with sweet synth filled pop tunes made from Moogs and Casiotones, drum machines and vocals layering over eachother. I would best describe it as late-night 0bsessions with nintendo and then piling to sleep in the Wii hours of the morning and having lovely dreams of living inside

It's a Monday morning, so immediately I feel tired, apathetic and really not motivated to go to work. Ho hum. Happy Monday! Sorry for the lack of updates, the BBQ headquarters have relocated and now we're back online! Today we bring you to the world of Shinichi Osawa! As you can tell from the picture above, he's a DJ bringin' you the heavy dance and electro you love/crave. I love the sampling of vocals (i.e. Au Revoir Simone) on several of these synth driven tracks. If you're currently into the indie dance craze, Shinichi is the Japanese love child of Daft Punk, Digitalism, and Soulwax. Mondo Grosso (Italian for "Big World") is his solo name as he does producing and mixing for lots of artists. Actually, rainy days are ok, it's the Mondays that get me down! Yes folks, I am fighting this once again - it's a battle I have to face every Monday morning. Someone might say, maybe you just have to surrender it to God. I did .. or I am trying...Funny, this Karen Carpenter's song keeps on ringing in my mind this morning that I ended up googling it. Lo and behold, a phrase in the lyrics stood out:Funny but it seems I always wind up here with youIt's nice to know somebody loves meFunny but it seems that it's the only thing to doTo run and find the one who loves meSounds and or looks familiar? It does. Funny that it seems the only thing to do is to run and find the one who loves me. And yes, that is Jesus. He promised never to leave or forsake me. And I always call upon Him on a Monday morning when I am down....Talking to myself and feeling oldSometimes I'd like to quitNothing ever seems to fitHangin' around, nothing to do but frownRainy days

Sorry, no audio archive for this bonus show, but I'll share one piece of it, an under-appreciated and very fun Jewish ska tune.King Django is the musical alter-identity of Jeff Baker, who's been part of a number of NYC ska bands and record labels. And the song? Let's turn to the King himself, in an israelbeat interview:[W]hen Stubborn All Stars were signed to Profile Records, the guy that signed us had asked me if I wanted to make a Stubborn All Stars Christmas record. And I just told him, naa, I can't make a Christmas record because I'm Jewish. About a week later I was in the office doing some stuff and he came over to me and he said 'I've got it!' And I was like what do you mean? He said, 'Ska-Mitzvah!' I was looking at him like, what are you talking about? And he said, you know,

I guess I had a case of the Mondays yesterday, but I’m feeling MUCH better today! The kids and I just finished watching the season premier of Sesame Street. It has a whole new opening sequence, and today’s episode had Tina Fey, Brian Williams from NBC news, and that guy Chris Brown who sings Run It. It was good! Still no Kermit the Frog doing the ol’ news anchor scenes, but I guess I just have to let that go!
We’re about to head out of here and do the shopping I should have done yesterday. We are thisclose to being out of baby wipes, which would just be a SIN in this house. I’m going to get something to make for my twin club board meeting, too. I’m not sure what to make, but I’m sure I’ll figure out something AWESOME and AMAZING, just like ME. I’m making crockpot lasagna for dinner, if I can get back in time to get it started.
Have a super Tuesday; I’m outtie!
Before even listening to the tracks, I was excited from the lists of instruments that are played in these songs. I have never heard of a lot of them such as flugelhorn, celeste, ebows, glockenspiel, sousaphone, timpani...well you get the point, eiher these are unfamiliar to you too or I'm just instrumentally ignorant. This 7 piece band from Philly masterfully creates an energy filled and true genre crossing instrument fusion. Tan Panda and I are often discussing my love for albums that have so many perspectives of sound from a single band! Illuminea does it with various vocals, subtle folk to upbeat, and with a slew of additional performers. You won't quite know until you get the new album, "Out Of Our Mouths" droppin' the 21st but you can pre-order now! If you are in the Philly area you can catch them for their CD-Release show on Friday @ Johnny Brenda's. HomewreckerI Can't WaitTo Lose You As A FriendHappy Monday!
Along with the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays were the leaders of the late-'80s/early-'90s dance club-influenced Manchester scene, experiencing a brief moment in the spotlight before collapsing in 1992. When I first heard about Neko Case, all people would say is that she has an incredible voice - then I heard it myself. They were right. Her newest album, Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, continues where he other left off. My personal favorite though is Blacklisted. It is a bit darker, kind of a noir-ish Nick Cave/country sound with a woman singing instead. I've yet to see her live, but from all accounts her voice is even better in person than on tape, so someday I'll have to see for myself, in the meantime - give her a listen:Train from Kansas City - MP3Hold On, Hold On

I am really diggin' Hrishikesh Hirway's mixture of ambient, electronic, folky postrock. It doesn't hurt either that his voice overlaying all that creates a subtle compliment to an acoustic piece. The One Am Radio is the solo project however on the road, Hirway is accompanied by a changing line-up. With their 3rd album out, Hirway's project is just getting better and better. And luckily for us he is part of the LA local scene. Hope we can catch him somewhere soon! Support the local scene and check out these awesome songs! Infact, he is moving next door to me. Hopefully that means more shows, more music and more fun! Peace out and happy monday!

The Happy Mondays are back - they've recorded a brand new album - their first in more than 14 years. I always appreciated their music and style that need any description. Rock, hip-hop, electronic dance music, hooks, so many reason to enjoy this stuff. Sometimes you want your old friend back, even if everything seems different now. My feeling is the same for Happy Mondays! Anti Warhole On The Dancefloor sounds both amazing and stupid - funky beats, oriental music, and it's one of the most enjoyable works recently.Happy Mondays - Anti Warhole On The Dancefloor
Ah, another Monday. And I am at work today. I’ll be going to Blackfoot Idaho for agility this coming weekend. I hope that Levi isn’t too stressed. I have been trialing him a lot lately.
Anyway, I started a new blog, too. It’s a dream diary. I got the idea from Tina Silva’s new Dream Diary, Dream Teddy. I thought it was such a great idea I had to copy her! I’m even using one of her templates she designed and I love it.
So today I have to work, and get some things done, so I can take Thursday and Friday off.

I had a great Memorial Day off yesterday. But man, do I hate the Tuesdays after holidays that feel like Mondays. Makes your entire week feel strange, and has me rethinking my normal routines. Not that I want to work EVERY Monday, I'm just saying...
The Mondays have just played a blinding version of Kinky Afro on Channel 4's Transmission music show.
It's great to see the lads doing some gigs together again. I'm looking forward to getting to see them live - they're playing at JB's Dudley on Friday the 1st of June - so hopefully I'll see them there.
Obligatory links and more info...

Everybody is very excited about the upcoming Coachella appearance by Happy Mondays. Everybody, that is, except U.S. immigration officials. Bez, hype man/onstage energy provider/dancer/castanet shaker for the band, has been denied a Visa for its appearance. It will be the Happy Mondays' first U.S. performance in 15 years but, sadly, an appearance without their heart and soul

Summary: What did Monday ever do to hurt anybody? Should Monday take crap because some people don't like going back to work on Monday?
I suppose I should learn to empathize, though. If I had a job, I might not appreciate Mondays, either.
Actually, I did have a job once, but I didn't like it very much. You couldn't pay me to get another job, that's how much I didn't like it!
He's a comic musician and a podcaster!
Nevertheless, here's an interesting fact: Among the scattered Dr. Demento-spawned Web radio shows and podcasts, Tom Rockwell's Manic Mondays is the rare program whose host is himself an accomplished Demento artist.
The genial Rockwell is front man for Sudden Death, a comedy hip-hop band featured more than 50 times on the Dr. Demento Show. Manic Mondays opens here with my own Today Was A Very Good Day and concludes after a brief 18 minutes.

Those mainstays of 80s Indie rock and co-founders of the Madchester scene The Happy Mondays are back, with a brand new album and full UK tour. First, there’ll be playing two warm-up gigs, at Bristol Academy on April 20th and the Nottingham Rescue Rooms on the 21st, before going over to California to play the Coachella Festival on the 29th of this month.
The legendary Factory Records band have also finished work on their first new album for 15 years, with the suggested title of ‘Freaky Funky Fish & Chips‘. Although the name may be unconfirmed, it will be released some time in the summer on Sanctuary Records. The album has been produced by Howie B and Sammy Levine (Quincy Jones’ grandson) and will be preceded by a new single release in June.
The band, most famous for their Hacienda nightclub days and being signed by Tony Wilson (also behind New Order and Joy Division), reformed for the 2nd time in 2004, after Bez’ infamous performance on that year&rsq
Shh. Don’t tell anyone, but for some reason, our entire Huntsville network is kaput.. but I can access the web. So email? Out. Local drives? Disconnected. But can Sarah blog? Oh, yes, my friends.. Sarah can indeed blog.
Clean livin’.
This past weekend was OHMYGAH good. Truly. Friday night, we walked down to Sazio’s for a scrumptious dinner. Bryan doesn’t like .. you know, ANYTHING.. so I got an entire tomato-goat cheese appetizer all to myself. It was fabulous. We ate ourselves silly and then walked home.
Poor Bryan’s allergies have REALLY been killing him this year. Usually, I’m the one who walks around in a zombie-like state, wishing I could just stick a pressure-faucet up each nostril, but this year, he has been miserable. So Friday night meant a night on the couch for Bryan, poor baby.
We slept in Saturday morning and then took off to CHATTY-TOWN!! The weather was SOOO beautiful, and we went straight to Rock
I know it's Tuesday, but it feels like Monday.
So, as far as I'm concerned, it IS still Monday.
It's one of THOSE Mondays.
It's that kind of Monday that hangs around thru Tuesday,

Yesterday, Rylan and I drove to visit our very good friends about an hour and a half away. (The friend who bought me the infamous pillow. She actually gave me a new pillow case for it that she made for me so that I’d have a neutral one to match my living room. [...]
Did you watch "House" tonight? I laughed aloud -- in what? recognition? delight at the familiar? amazement at music's ability to yank us back in time? -- when Hugh Laurie played the opening measures of this old song, and Dave Matthews as the savant repeated the passage.Clap-clap. Clap-clap.You know the story, right? The Boomtown Rats song "I Don't Like Mondays" was inspired by a deadly school shooting twenty-seven years ago.Another three weeks without the curmudgeon, by the way. "House" returns on March 27.
Happy President's Day, whatever that means! Yay America. Okay it is Washington's B-day, he's like super famous. Go $1 dollar bill! Educate yourself sucka. Some interesting things to note, The man who co-invented the TV remote, Robert Adler, died at age 93 from heart failure. Let's see, he help create the remote, won awards, contributed to culture and technology, I would say the failure in heart is non-existent. And!!! He died in Boise, Idaho. What a rad guy! As I was browsing through the Idaho Statesman website, I found an awesome quick 7 photo gallery. Each on sums up a feeling I've had. Take a look. In other News, XM and Sirius get serious (he..hehe). They finally merged. Ever heard of Second Life, think the Sims except more reality. Anyways AMD created some building in the game where people can visit and get interested in working for AMD. Wow. read here.Ever heard much British female soul singers? Me neither but this woman rocks it with funk, jazz and blues. Listen to this voic
I've really never been much of a fan of Bob Geldof, so it was kind of a suprise to me the other day when I heard this song on the radio and I actually liked it. It's one of the few Boomtown Rats songs that comes off more like something Queen would do. It also frightens me a little that I certainly understand the sentiment behind the song. Mind you, I'm not advocating mass murder at a schoolyard by any means... but every once in a while, something happens that makes me just see red.I found this through Jeff Chon's excellent Shrillmatic blog, and it's an amazing piece of autobiography. I've spoken about the state of the comics industry several times with online friends Gail and Johanna, and though I don't comment on her blog a lot, I think Lea Hernandez is dead on accurate when she's ranted about the "frat house" mentality that exists at the big dinosaur publishers Marvel and DC.Anyway, here's the link... The truth is, I look forward to Mondays when everyone goes back to work and I can once again concentrate on my artwork. The weekends are always so busy that there is just no time to be creative. Those of us who were blessed with the creative gene are addicted to being creative. We're not happy if we can't find time to make something.I've left jobs as an art teacher, a rural mail carrier, a picture framer and a host of other odd jobs because I couldn't find time to paint. I work from home now and I love it! Oftentimes it's hard to figure out how to come up with the money for an upcoming bill...but that's the same for everyone, everwhere, it seems. We've all gotten so caught up with the material things, and we've so stressed ourselves out because of it. I've learned to do with less, so that I can still create when the mood strikes. But enuf about me...Recently I was invited to join a wonderful group of talented people who are also incredibly generous....Art for Critters. I'm tota
