Now in a bid to commercialize its technology, Amryis (web site ) has struck a deal to create a joint venture with Brazilian ethanol giant Crystalev to produce biodiesel from sugarcane. Some three-quarters of Brazil's cars run on ethanol made from domestic sugarcane but the country imports diesel. "This is a game changer," Amyris co-founder Jack Newman told Green Wombat this week at Fortune's Brainstorm Green conference in Pasadena. "It gives us the ability to make a difference in terms of scale by tapping into existing agricultural land and Brazil's ethanol infrastructure. It's a great step forward for Amyris,

      MOLECULAR MACHINES
Then comes the second big idea, getting these molecular machines to make copies of themselves, which then make copies of themselves, which then make copies, and so on. This would lead to exponential growth of tiny machines that could then be used to construct macro scale objects from appropriate molecular feedstock’s, and with no wastage. In theory, large, complex structures could be built with

      Molecular theory of dielectric polarization
When the dielectric material insert to isolated charged capacitor, the electric field between plates will be reduced by K time. E=Eo/K Since the surface charged on the plates of capacitor is not charging .The dielectric must be responsible for the reduction of the field. When the dielectric is in the electric field of the capacitor an opposite charge should be induced to reduce the electric field. Depending on the molecular properties material in to two types. Get Inside A Molecular Biologist's Imagination
I’ve always thought that it takes a good imagination to study molecular and cell biology since we never actually see much of the molecular processes we study, dissect and hypothesize on every day. Think about the mental models you have of the processes of cytoskeleton polymerization/ de-polymerization or DNA translation for example. Aren’t they amazing? Biovisions, a Harvard animation company have come up with an animation of cellular processes that is probably the closest thing to an external representation of a molecular biologist’s imagination you can get. BioChemWeb: Virtual Library for the Molecular Biologist
Wikipedia gets quite a bit of attention, and the student of the molecular biological sciences regularly needs a more in-depth information resource. There’s Bruce Alberts et al.’s Molecular Biology of the Cell, Harvey Lodish et al.’s Molecular Cell Biology, and David Nelson’s Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry if you have the textbooks handy. An online compilation or virtual library is extremely useful too. Fitting that bill for the biochemist or cell and molecular biologist is BioChemWeb. With such a resource, I’m surprised that I don’t hear many of my colleagues mention it, ever. In it, everything from tutorials to protocols to multimedia to a Who’s Who listing can be found there. Check it out, if you haven’t already. (more…)
