Mobile devices are capable of fulfilling a variety of roles from personal organiser to small and highly portable word processor, but one of the newest and niftiest roles for mobile devices is that of a global positioning system. Global Positioning systems (GPS) allow a user to connect with a satellite to figure out their exact latitude and longitude on the planet. For mobile devices, this means that a mobile device equipped with a GPS system can help a lost hiker or traveller find their way back to civilisation. If the terrain is too difficult for them to traverse on their own, a lost hiker can let rescuers know his exact location. Mobile devices can be a great boon to search and rescue personnel. They have many other uses as well and a person waiting to be rescued can keep his moral up by

Recently at a forum.joomla.org, it was raised a question: why it is not possible to visit a site through SSL-connection with the mobile device (really a question was another ). At the same time, all was ОК with a usual (desktop) browser.
After some experiments and search on the Internet I have understood, that the reason of such behavior can be only one: the majority of mobile devices contain only a few basic “root certificates” and not download other from the Internet.

Samsung Electronics Co., announced today the development of its new single-chip radio frequency identification (RFID) reader for mobile devices. Embedded RFID reader chips can provide consumers with product or service information retrieved from RFID tags incorporated in items such as movie posters, clothing, and museums or tourist exhibits.According to market research firm RoA Group, the global demand for mobile RFID is expected to grow from $26.9 billion in 2007 to $701 billion by 2010, for a compound annual growth of 196 percent. While it can be embedded into devices such as mobile handsets and handheld readers used in retail stores, initially the major application for Samsung's new RFID reader chip is expected to be in card-type readers that plug into mobile handsets. This will provide consumers with immediate access to the new technology.

In a Government Technology article, an argument is made that access to data should be granted on a need, right, and time basis. Now, this is not a new argument, and it was directed to securing databases and their contents.
The argument is that not everyone needs to have access to information on a database or databases. Obviously, depending on one’s seniority and ranking within an organization as well as type of job one holds, the type of information that one should have access to will differ; the higher in the hierarchy, the more information one needs to access. Along with the need, the right to access information is to be considered as well. In fact, some would argue that the need and the right to access information are intertwined, and are not to be considered on a separate basis.
The third criterion, time, is meant to curtail access to the data as necessary. If an employee always works from nine to five, there is no reason why he should

Mobile Guru: Mobile Video: Syncing with the Birds: New software allows Windows Mobile devices to synchronize with Thunderbird and SunbirdMobile Videosted by Dusan on Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 at 3:37 am under Applications, Windows MobileTagged: BirdieSync, mobile syncing and sync Thunderbird Mobile VideoBirdieSyncI've came across an interesting piece of software that allows synchronization between Pocket Outlook and Thunderbird, Lightning or Sunbird. This way you could use one of the three mentioned non-Outlook email/PIM apps on your PC, and still make it work (sync) with your Windows Mobile-based smartphone. For one thing this is good — I can see a growing number of people abandoning Outlook for its complexity. Mobile VideoMobile Video Anyhow, the free 21-day trial of BirdieSync is available — license costs 19.95 EUR/$25. LONG BEACH — May 21, 2007 — QUALCOMM MEMS Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), and Ubixon Co., Ltd., a developer of ubiquitous portable consumer devices, today at the 2007 Society for Information Displays (SID) International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition announced an agreement to integrate QUALCOMM’s Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) displays into the next generation of Ubixon Bluetooth® stereo headset products.QUALCOMM MEMS displays are a technology breakthrough that promise substantial performance benefits over competing display technologies. The reflective displays, based on Interferometric Modulation (IMOD) technology, require no backlighting and can be viewed in bright sunlight and in a wide range of environments. Moreover, these displays offer a significant reduction in power consumption as compared to other display technologies, while extending device battery life and enabling new features. Motorola Inc. has just been granted a patent to recharge cell phone using solar energy. The technology uses an LCD (liquid crystal display) which includes solar cells that are capable of charging the battery in cell phones or other portable devices. In June 2006, we reported that researchers at Fraunhofer, located in Europe, were working on solar power engineering solutions for mobile devices. It seems Motorola may have beat Fraunhofer to the punch. There were numerous issues with solor power for mobile devices. Earlier designs allowed a relatively small amount of light to reach the solar cells, resulting in very little power being generated even under the best light conditions. However, Motorola has solved the problem by using either cholesteric liquid crystal or polymer-disbursed liquid crystal in the display, instead of super-twisted nematic liquid crystals.
Sharp Corp. today has announced the development of advanced LCD panels that will feature sharper moving images on portable devices such as mobile phones, pitting it against organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. The new panels have a response speed three times as fast as its conventional panels and the world's highest contrast ratio for 2-inch LCDs used in mobile devices. Digital broadcasting targeted at mobile devices is catching on and more digital camera makers are putting a camcorder function in their products, boosting demand for small-sized panels capable of giving finer images. The Osaka-based company plans to make a sample shipment of the new liquid crystal display (LCD) panels by the end of the year for cellphones and aims for 100 billion yen ($836 million) in sales from the new products in the year ending March 2009.

Warriors is basically a portable RPG battle- not a full blown RPG- but rather a turn-based fighting tournament. The gameplay consists of creating a 4-man party and then fighting other parties of paladins, ninjas, warriors, and the like. Each character takes a turn and has a limited selection of abilities or things to do (typically somewhere between 1-3 actions). If your warriors triumph, you move onto the next team to battle in the tournament ladder. The game is awful as a PC title, and is definitely better suited for a mobile device (though it goes from 4 on 4 to 3 on 3), but is still a straight forward and somewhat repetitive experience.Gameplay: 5/10Pros: The gameplay definitely recaptures the old RPG turn-based battles of classic 8/16-bit RPGs (this is NOT ChronoTrigger or Secret of Mana mechanics people!). Gamesplay is straight-forward with easy to play mechanics.Cons: There's a reason people hated the random battles from RPGs of Yore! Selecting attack and then the bad guy t
