Not content with just training brains, Nintendo is taking the world by storm with its latest exercise game Wii Fit. Senior Managing Director of Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto was the mastermind behind combining exercise and video games that resulted in Wii Fit. Inspired by his fascination to weigh himself and plot his weight and body changes on a graph, Miyamoto’s ideas led to the development of the pressure sensitive Balance Board which is used in conjunction with the game to participate in aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and balance games.Miyamoto has become a household name around the world, not surprising given that he invented many icons of the gaming world including Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong. The Times Online recently caught up with Miyamoto in advance of the launch of Wii Fit acros

In a media roundtable on Thursday, venerable game designer Shigeru Miyamoto said downloadable updates could be coming to Wii Fit.Miyamoto looking fit at an NYC demoAccording to Miyamoto, Nintendo might consider plans to update the Wii Fit channel with nutritional data by way of a download. The additional functionality, not launching with software on May 19, would then be used to further slim fatty gamers. In terms of inspiration, Miyamoto said the game was inspired several years ago while looking at graphs of his weight. At one point, the designer even considered Wii Fit connectivity with the portable DS.Additionally, Miyamoto said Wii Fit is unique in that the purchasing decision is made by parents about 90% of the time, as opposed to kids who usually pick the desired family games. Filed under: Culture, Nintendo WiiWe imagine that Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of some of the most recognizable intellectual properties on the planet, doesn't like coming in second place -- let alone ninety-second place. Unfortunately for the banjo-plucking game designer, that was the case in last year's Time 100 list, when Shiggy, sandwiched between the world's fifth richest man and the author of "The Secret", nearly didn't make the cut. Though his pride was surely bruised, Miyamoto wasn't discouraged by the low ranking -- he merely stepped up his game, providing oversight for some of last year's best-selling Wii titles.
Perhaps that's why he's been nominated for the 2008 Time 100 list, where dedicated Nintendo fanboys have pushed the eccentric designer to number 27 -- somewhere between Mich
If there is one name that is synonymous with Nintendo it is Shigeru Miyamoto. Currently the Senior Managing Director of Nintendo, Miyamoto created many of the video game industry’s iconic characters including Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and Star Fox. Miyamoto’s recent projects include Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and Super Mario Galaxy. So it should come as no surprise then that his signature would be so sought after, as Nathan Smart discovered after placing a Super Famicom signed by Miyamoto on eBay. In addition to the signed console and two controllers (which does work by the way), the auction includes Super Donkey Kong, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros 1,2 and 3, Super Game Boy, Mario & Wario as well as Mickey’s Tokyo Disneyland Adventure.Smart visited New York in 2005
Spinning Back Fists rarely land, but when they do, they’re almost guaranteed to land a Knock Out blow. The momentum that is created when throwing a spinning back fist is shocking. You wouldn’t believe how hard they hit until you hold some focus mits. Very very powerful.
In this K1 fight, the late Andy Hug takes on Masaaki Miyamoto defeating him with a spinning backfist.

Shigeru Miyamoto is seen as the father of modern video gaming, he created iconic gaming characters like Donkey Kong, Mario and Link. Working with Nintendo on the Wii is the company’s lattest big hit. Time magazine got to ask him some gamers questions, these are the most interesting answers:
Question: Do you think the success of the Wii–an interactive system that emphasizes physical activity–will change the gaming culture? —Will Chung, TAIPEI
I hope that in 10 years people will look back and see both the Wii and Nintendo DS [a handheld system] as devices that helped redefine what a video game is–if you can even call it a video game.
Question: Are you happy that the Wii is seen as a form of exercise? —Jonah Eaton, LAUREL, MD.
While working on Wii Fit [a new exercise game with a balance board for yoga and other activities], we got letters from fans who wanted some type of exercise program. We were very happy to see that response from consumers, but it also put
Chris Kohler interviewed Nintendo’s head of game development, Shigeru Miyamoto for Game | Life (Wired News) and posted this yesterday:
I’ve had the chance to talk with Miyamoto on several occasions over the last five years and have yet to have an interview that I didn’t consider revealing.
With a scaled-back E3 this year, there was less for Miyamoto to talk about, but his comments on game design as pertaining to Wii Fit and Super Mario Galaxy are a must-read.
Wired News: I was just playing Super Mario Galaxy, and I was really interested in the two-player mode. Could I hear about why that came about?
Shigeru Miyamoto: One of the driving forces behind it was that we felt that since Mario 64, a lot of people have had a hard time playing the Mario games because of the move to 3D. So this time, we really wanted to create a Mario game that everybody can play — but we still wanted to do something in 3D. So that was really the genesis of the idea.

After constantly F5'ing the voting polls on the Time website for the last couple of weeks, video game fans can rejoice. Video game superstar Shigeru Miyamoto is officially a part of the print list of the Time's 100 Most Influential People issue of their news magazine for 2007. The article on the Time's site (written by professional gamer, Jonathan Wendel, aka Fatal1ty) pays a bit too much attention to the achievements of the author as opposed to those of Mr. Miyamoto, but despite this slight infraction on the part of the Time's editorial staff, it is great to see another video game personality making their place on the list. From Donkey Kong, to Zelda, to Mario, to the Nintendo Wii... Miyamoto is the defacto figurehead for the Nintendo corporation. His works are beloved by millions, and I would wager that on some level the vast majority of gamers grew up with a Miyamoto game as the one that made them a gamer. I know I did.Click here read the article on Miyamoto on the Time's w
Miyamoto International's President and Chief Structural Engineer is en route to the epicenter of the M6.3 Indonesian earthquake that struck on March 6, 2007. Centered near the city of Padang, on the west side of the island of Sumatra, the earthquake caused extensive damage to buildings and lifelines throughout the region. To date, the earthquake and its many aftershocks have collapsed over 100 buildings and killed over 70 people. The trip is being coordinated by the Minister of Public Works on Investment and Economic Affairs of Indonesia. The intent of Kit Miyamoto's reconnaissance is to collect data on the earthquake's impact on infrastructure, buildings and utilities. Besides observing damage, he will also study structures that survived -- to better understand what works and how we can apply that knowledge to designing safer buildings in California. While there, Kit Miyamoto will also meet with local government and building officials to review seismic design and construction pract

Creating some sort of bizarro scenario Miyamoto recently let slip this little tidbit: if not for the NAND flash memory and “other pricey parts” the Nintendo Wii would have been sub $100 at launch.
At launch!!
With word that Sony is suffering roughly a $300 loss with each PS3 console sold it begs to ask: could the “instantly profitable” Wii have been sold for under 100 double cheeseburgers?
Let me say this… for $250 I’ll buy one for myself. At under $100 I’d have given them as x-mas gifts. That’d been console history right there.
