An automotive expert of nytimes.com recently got a chance to drive a 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR FQ-360. Capable of generating more than 360 horsepower, the Evo MR’s engine was modified by Japanese tuner firm, HKS. The engine control computer also underwent reprogramming, in order to unleash more turbocharger boost to the 2-liter 4-cylinder engine.
With great performance parts, this compact all-wheel-drive sedan with supercar performance can easily go to 60 miles an hour in just 3.9 seconds. This amazing vehicle is not available in the United States; the expert drove it in Ireland. Its base price in Britain is £34,641, about $70,000. Meanwhile, a less powerful American version, the 2006 Evo MR, was $36,924.
The expert tested the FQ-360 in the Wicklow Mountains south of Dublin, and impressively conquered the snaking two-lane roads. He managed to feel safe with the huge Brembo brakes.

Mitsubishi has a potential winner on its hands with the 2008 Lancer. In the absence of final pricing information, we estimate that a Lancer GTS equipped like ours will have an MSRP just shy of $22,000, including destination charges. Its tech amenities make it a top-tier car in terms of cabin gadgets, and a great value.
The masculine styling won’t be for everyone, but Mitsubishi can’t risk softening the profile of its aspirational rally mobile at this point, and sales likely won’t be affected anyway. Who would have thought Mitsubishi would face stock shortages five years ago? Dealers are short in stock of Mitsubishi's new Lancer, specifically the range-topping GTS trim. Teasin’ time is over. Here are the first official pictures of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution—or Evolution X as it is known back home in Japan.
Mitsubishi Motors mixed a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down in Tokyo, releasing first images of the production version of the high-performance sedan in conjunction with the automaker’s financial results, which actually reflected the first profit in four years.
The only figures we care about: an expected 300 or more horses from the new high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged MIVEC engine. This lightweight mill has an aluminum cylinder block (the Lancer Evolution RS has an iron block and aluminum head). The new engine is part of the Global Engine Alliance, for which Mitsubishi jumped into bed with Hyundai Motor and DaimlerChrysler for four-cylinder offspring.
