Mitsubishi pulled the covers off the US-spec 2008 Lancer Evolution X, and the differences between your red, white, and blue steed and the one from its homeland are: the steering wheel is on the left, versions with the 6-speed SST auto ‘box are called the MR (the 5-speed manual is the GSR), and the seat cushions are longer in order to fit longer American bodies.
The stripper RS model is not on offer here — that’s the one without a radio and power options. The differences between our GSR and the MR aren’t many, but depending on your preferences they might not be minor. The standard GSR has a radio and power accessories, but does not come with a wing — that would get added in the Sight, Sound, and Spoiler package, which throws in HID headlamps and a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate system. An automotive expert of nytimes.com recently got a chance to drive a 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR FQ-360. Capable of generating more than 360 horsepower, the Evo MR’s engine was modified by Japanese tuner firm, HKS. The engine control computer also underwent reprogramming, in order to unleash more turbocharger boost to the 2-liter 4-cylinder engine.
With great performance parts, this compact all-wheel-drive sedan with supercar performance can easily go to 60 miles an hour in just 3.9 seconds. This amazing vehicle is not available in the United States; the expert drove it in Ireland. Its base price in Britain is £34,641, about $70,000. Meanwhile, a less powerful American version, the 2006 Evo MR, was $36,924.
The expert tested the FQ-360 in the Wicklow Mountains south of Dublin, and impressively conquered the snaking two-lane roads. He managed to feel safe with the huge Brembo brakes.

Mitsubishi Motors mixed a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down in Tokyo, releasing first images of the production version of the high-performance sedan in conjunction with the automaker’s financial results, which actually reflected the first profit in four years.
The only figures we care about: an expected 300 or more horses from the new high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged MIVEC engine. This lightweight mill has an aluminum cylinder block (the Lancer Evolution RS has an iron block and aluminum head). The new engine is part of the Global Engine Alliance, for which Mitsubishi jumped into bed with Hyundai Motor and DaimlerChrysler for four-cylinder offspring.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has developed two new component systems that are expected to feature in the new Lancer Evolution, due to be launched this autumn. S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) is an advanced vehicle dynamics control system that regulates drive torque at each wheel. Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission) is an automated manual transmission that delivers slicker shifting through the gears while freeing the driver from the need to operate the clutch. In line with its corporate philosophy, Mitsubishi Motors strives to deliver a dynamic driving experience while making advances to keep drivers safe. Twin Clutch SST and S-AWC do so by making driving more intuitive. Both the systems work to efficiently distribute power appropriate to road conditions, and deliver outstanding control and stability maintained by an "intelligent" system that reads and reflects driver intent in real time. The system now adds an ASC (Active Stability Control) feature to the ACD (Active Center Diffe
Mitsubishi announced today that its high-performance four-wheel-drive sedan will officially be called the 2008 Lancer Evolution X (pronounced "ten") in Japan and Lancer Evolution in the U.S. The announcement follows months of speculation about the name of the 10th generation Evo as enthusiasts wondered whether the sedan would be named Evo X (pronounced "X") after the Prototype X concept car, which debuted earlier this year at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, or continue the numbered sequence from its predecessor the Evo IX.[Source: Edmunds]Continued- Article, more imagesAlthough the Evolution X name will be used in Japan, each region's marketing team gets a say, and the U.S. group is sticking with the simple Lancer Evolution moniker, claiming that's always been its official name here, and the Roman numeral system was only used by enthusiasts and media. No matter the name, the photo released today depicts the global 2008 Lancer Evolution that will go into production late this year, and batt

After teasing enthusiasts with concept after concept, Mitsubishi finally showed the Prototype X Concept at the NAIAS in January, and it is that very concept that will evolve into the production version of the Lancer Evolution, affectionately known as the Evo X.[Source: LeftLaneNews]Continued- Article, extra shotsOfficially arriving as an early 2009 model (in the first quarter of 2008), the Evo X will be powered by a turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter I4, and will be equipped with an AWD system — complete with stability control. In the same category as Subaru's WRX, the all-wheel-drive system — known as "Super-All-Wheel Control" (S-AWC) — may make this the best handling vehicle in its class.Even under the camouflage, we can see that the sheet metal on this test car is identical to that of the Prototype X Concept, although we doubt the LEDs will make it all the way to production, but even the head restraints on this camouflaged car match those on the shiny red concept.
