      Into the dawn mists
The Social Plan negotiations ended yesterday with a presentation to the employees about the shutdown arrangements and severance proposals. There is now a week's period for consideration and discussion before the vote, and a simple majority will determine the outcome. I'm not a part of the arrangements, since I'm here under expatriate rather than Dutch, contract. But the hallway conversations soun

City of Mists - A Second Look
A couple of weeks ago I posted a short article for Paradise Philippines, wherein I called Cagayan de Oro a “City of Mists”. In a way, I was right about the idea. Recently, I’ve read an article from Inquirer.net about Mindanao being very WET this season. Manila is really taking a bit of a toll from the heat wave, as well as the water levels going down, and electricity blitzing out every now and then. I know that what is happening in Manila is really very bad. And I understand that blackouts and water problems can be a real pain in the ass. I’m not trying to publicize Cagayan de Oro as a good vacation spot, nor am I trying to say that people should ‘decongest’ Manila and move here in Cagayan de Oro where it’s wet and wild. Hmmm, not like any of that sort.

      City of Mists
I’ve been looking over some old stock photos and I found a nice picture. It’s really worth adding here. The picture was taken last December. I was standing on top of a cliff, and it was overlooking the entire city of Cagayan de Oro. This is one good entry for our travel guide at Paradise Philippines, since most people don’t really know that Cagayan de Oro is a “city of mists”. When you wake up in the morning, and if it’s a particularly cold day, chances are the city will be covered with fog - like the one below.Photo Poetry 9 of 100

Remembering Misty through Mists of Time
When I was in the fourth grade, more years ago than I care to remember, my teacher, Miss Sears, would read one chapter of a book to the class each morning. I still remember how excited I was when she chose Marguerite Henry’s “Misty of Chincoteague” as one of the books she would read that year. And as I was [...]

      Season of Mists
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulnessClose bosom-friend of the maturing sunConspiring with him how to load and blessWith fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,And fill all f ruit with ripeness to the core;To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shellsWith a sweet kernel; to set budding more,And still more, later flowers for the bees,Until they think warm days will never ceaseFor Summer has o’erbrimm’d their clammy cells…(Keats) For 27 years my family lived in a Georgian farmhouse in Cumbria (which was then called Cumberland ) a few miles from the border with ScotlandTales from a Cumbrian Farmhouse (1) My mother decides that this is the day to harvest the plums from the fan-trained trees growing against the byre wall. This afternoon she will pick the plums and make them into jam. Steamed jam pudding cooked with home-made plum jam is Dad’s favourite. But first she must go into town (seven miles away) to meet ‘the girls
