      Of misery...and joy
What a day.I was probably the crankiest person alive today. I didnt sleep the whole night yesterday. Just couldnt sleep, kept tossing and turning yet I was so restless and felt so damn bloody uncomfortable. Of course there was something on the back of my mind that kept bothering me- which was what kept me awake the whole freaking night. And since I did not get any sleep and had to go to work- my mood was pretty sour keke.PM was not around today so I was pretty much free, so we managed to sneak out to watch Be Kind Rewind. After that, boss decided to make the rest of my day a misery by giving me a last minute urgent task. Best thing was, it was not my job and responsibility in the first place. Why the hell did I have to do it? I had to dig out obsolete information to get that done and it wa

      Middle-aged misery spans the globe
Using data on 2 million people, from 80 nations, researchers from the University of Warwick, UK and Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH have found an extraordinarily consistent international pattern in depression and happiness levels that leaves us most miserable in middle age. The researchers found happiness levels followed a U shaped curve, with happiness higher towards the start and end of our lives and leaving us most miserable in middle age. Many previous studies of the life-course had suggested that psychological well-being stayed relatively flat and consistent as we aged. Using a sample of 1 million people from the UK, the researchers discovered that for both men and women the probability of depression peaks around 44 years of age. In the US they found a significant difference between me

Anyway, I was so thin I could have been a model for . But the years have not been kind. The years have in fact been force feeding me sugar whilst locked in a small cube two feet to a side.I was sat on my bed the other and looking in the mirror. I found I'd developed a new ability. I could now, much to the amazement nee disgust of my wife, life my stomach and literally place it back on my lap. Up. Down. Up. Down. Misery Roundup
Inept President, Greedy Corporations, and U.S. Debt Bush's sham climate conference -- which the lapdog media in the U.S. dutifully reported the way the white house wanted them to -- is already generating criticism around the world for its failures to mandate any meaningful targets for countries, instead relying on "voluntary" targets by the countries themselves.  Bush is still with the "it will hurt the economy" nonsense, and the Union of Concerned Scientists is saying enough is enough. The U.S. was accused of killing women and children in its air strike on a neighborhood in Baghdad.  By the way, the Spanish newspaper El Universal had an expose on a conversation between Bush and then-Spanish prime minister Aznar in the period before the Iraq war when we were ostensibly waiting for the UN inspectors to do their work that asserts that Bush told Aznar there would be war with Iraq regardless of what the UN finds (article is in Spanish). Misery Portrayal
They say: A picture is worth thousand words, but have you ever asked yourself why we are always taken by photos that show human misery, famine, starvation, poverty and war. Have you ever asked yourself why the photo of Sharbat Gula is more likely to be breathtaking than others? Over time, I developed my own opinion about this. I remember this story in my 6th grade English class; about a very famous British singer who had a lot of philanthropic activities in Africa. He organized charity campaign for poor countries in Africa. The story was portraying him as symbol for humbleness and modesty. It’s very normal for photographers to stalk the singer to take some nice photos while he is performing his philanthropic act; handling food aids to the starving children of Africa. However, the man

Put Me Out Of My Misery
For more than a decade I've had to deal with what is thought to be a ganglion cyst in the top of my wrist of my left hand. It's weird how it comes and goes. It's almost a seasonal thing, like arthritis. I haven't had it flare up for quite a while. Until yesterday. And wow is it especially bad. I'm having shooting pains all the way up to my shoulder and I can barely move my hand, which sucks because I'm left-handed. Luckily I can type okay. Writing or picking things up kills.A number of years ago I went to the doctor when it was bad and he decided to drain it. He stuck me with a needle and nothing came out, which means it was solid. He wanted to run further test and even mentioned surgery as an option to remove it. That scared me to death so I never went back. Now I think I need to bite the bullet and see about getting something done. It's only getting worse. Last night my entire arm was throbbing and the pain was almost too much to handle.Rothfamilyadventures.com

Acting on feedback provided from valued sources such as season-ticket holders and the po-po, the Cleveland Browns organization is taking a more cautious approach toward the experience at Cleveland Browns Stadium this coming season. A "Family Zone" is being added so as to afford a family with children the opportunity to watch a contest without being subject to boisterous; drunk potty-mouthed fans. I just thank Lord they didn't refer to this as "The Puppy Pound." "The Family Zone", a newly designated seating area insections 542 and 543 at Cleveland Browns Stadium, will be a family-friendly, alcohol-free zone featuring mascots and kids' meals. Tickets for "The Family Zone" are $32. Information on how to purchase these seats will be available on www.clevelandbrowns.com in coming weeks. The Cleveland Misery Series: "The Hit"
... and we're about to conclude our look at The Mistake by the Lake's sports history. Hopefully you've cried enough tears by this point to understand just how important it is that the Cavaliers go '04 Pistons over Lakers-style on the much better Spurs. Our final stop is "The Hit," which wasn't really called that but will be called that for purposes of grouping it with "The Shot" and "The Fumble" and all that. Here's what you need to know - 'twas October 26, 1997 and Game 7 of the "Latino Series" went 11 innings between the upstart Marlins and the long-suffering Indians. In that 11th frame, Edgar Renteria singled off Charles Nagy - in the process scoring Craig Counsell - and the game was over. The Fish won their first of (currently) 2 World Series titles, Jim Leyland seemed relevant again, people thought Livan Hernandez was great (he's now an after-thought on the DBacks, although he shouldn't be), Charles Nagy somehow became part of a sports trivia question, and Bob Costas jumped

The Cleveland Misery Series: "The Shot"
Ah, time to revisit some more Cleveland falling apart in professional athletic situations goodness. Again, "The Shot" has its own Wiki (I think producer/consumer blurred lines Internet posting has a bias against Cleveland). If you're unfamiliar with "The Shot," it's relevant for a series of reasons. Michael Jordan probably FIRST became culturally relevant with his dagger to send the Cavaliers - a team that had beaten the Bulls six times that season, by the way - home on their floor. He's hit many "shots" (I can rattle off 50 against the Knicks alone), but still, THIS one is called "THE shot" as opposed to any of the others. It might be one of the greatest reactions in sports history. It might be one of the top 10 announcer calls in sports history (without the absolute disintegration into madness by Jim Durham, nothing that Gus Johnson has done since would make any sense to us). Also, would anyone know anything else about Craig Ehlo if it wasn't for that moment? So to recap - "The Dri

      Election Misery Roundup
So backwards have we become under George Bush that scientists are desperately hoping for a Democratic win in Tuesday's midterm elections.  With Bush's assault on science, it's no wonder. From global warming to stem cells, from genetically engineered organisms to toxic chemicals, Bush has silenced or manipulated science to serve whatever his political agenda is.  This is an attacks on our health we can't accept. Another scumbag Republican:  This one repeatedly beat up his mistress and so arrived at a settlement with her last year, but with a large cash incentive to keep the whole matter silent until after this year's elections.  Republican Don Sherwood repeatedly abused Cindy Ore.  But remember:  the GOP is the party of morals. Speaking of GOP morals, review the GOP list of shame.    In fact, on scandals alone the GOP should lose congress.    And if you don't believe us, even conservatives say the GOP must go. Of course, the electorate in the  "greatest democracy in the world"

Government Abuse of Power - Using the IRS, Health and Human Services, the Judiciary, and the TSA to further your agenda In the Bush administration's usual reality-challenged world, their Health and Human Services abstinence program is now being expanded to include people up until age 30.    "The message is it's better to wait until you're married to bear or father children.  The only 100% effective way of getting there is abstinence" said Wade Horn, assistant secretary for family and children at HHS.  Note to religious fundamentalist nuts:  Over 90% of unmarried people between 20 and 30 are having sex.  The cat's out of the bag on that one. Salon has an intersting piece on political contributions to George Bush and other GOP politicians by judges who were appointed by them.  The "appointments for money" apparently is legal, so it's no surprise the GOP has exploited it as part of their plan to take over the judiciary. Up Close And Personal: Welcome To My Misery
Don't blame us, the tickets were purchased way in advance. January 26, 2007 was intended to be a night of All-Stars -- Allen Iverson and LeBron James -- squaring off to showcase their crowd-pleasing talents and energizing persona, instead the evening turned into one big disappointing reminder of how the sports gods loathe me.A buddy of mine organized a trip to the Sixers/Cavs game earlier in the season. The first words out of my mouth were "Sure man, this will probably be the last time I get to see A.I. perform live in a Sixers uniform." Not two weeks later, my hometown Sixers were already unceremoniously cutting ties with the face of their franchise since 1996. So, I've had a few months to realize that when I attend the upcoming game, pretty much the only reason to go now is to admire "King James" as he beats up on the lowly sixers. In the waning moments before we head out to the Wachovia Center for the game, I receive an ominous text message from my colleague.Colleague: "Dude, LeBro
