Florida is among 19 university systems across the country setting out to boost the number of minority, low-income students who attend college and earn degrees.
“Access to Success" is a joint effort of the National Association of System Heads and the Education Trust, a nonprofit education achievement advocate. The public college systems, Florida being among the largest, have vowed that by 2015 they will have cut in half the achievement gaps between white, more affluent students and low-income minorities. They will lay out the ambitious initiative during a noon conference call today.
Each university system will come up with its own plan for closing the achievement gap, and the university systems will provide regular data on the proportion of new freshmen and transfer students who receive Pell Grants and how many of those Pell Grant recipients graduate within four to six years.
(ORADELL, NJ) The National Minority Franchising Initiative (NMFI) has selected Huntington Learning Center as one of its 50 Top Franchises for Minorities, based on factors that include Huntington’s success in recruiting and supporting minority franchisees, historical performance, brand identification and franchisee satisfaction, among others.
In addition to market research, the selection was based on findings from a detailed questionnaire completed by existing minority franchisees and the senior managers at Huntington, as well as incentive programs offered to minority franchisees.
Founded in 1977 by Dr. Raymond J. and Eileen Huntington, Huntington Learning Center provides instruction in reading, writing, spelling, phonics, mathematics and study skills, as well as SAT / ACT preparation to tens of thousands of students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Huntington prides itself on unparalleled programs that help parents, caregivers and educators identify the ga
About the PBS "minority" Republican debate: Even if you write off the minority vote (dumb), there are millions of independents and Republicans who will be off-put by the candidates' ignoring of legitimate voting blocks. In other words, when Republicans solicit minority votes, they may not get minority votes, but they'll get those of moderates who believe strongly in race reconcilliation. Frankly, it just looks good.
If nothing else, skipping these special-interest debates looks cowardly. Really, what are Republicans afraid of? I don't want to believe that white Republicans would be offended (I'd switch; honestly). Tough questions? How about answering them? Unless they're evil like NAMBLA, politicians need to reach out to Americans however these CITIZENS wish to organize themselves. If the candidates think that Americans shouldn't group themselves by race, they should go and tell them.
When the Republicans attend some of these things after taking enough heat, they'll look u

When I bought yesterday’s edition of The Globe and Mail, I read a very interesting article of Marina Jiménez, the immigration reporter. In her article, she declares that visible minorities (and their children) “identify less and less with the country (Canada)”, according to a report made by Jeffrey Reitz, a University of Toronto sociologist, and Rupa Banerjee, a doctoral candidate. The question at the centre of that report was: “what it means to be Canadian – and specifically how that identity resonates with immigrants and their Canadian-born offspring.”In this report made with the co-operation of 40,000 respondents, Reitz and Banerjee found that visible minorities who have difficulty to integrate into the Canadian society are mostly from China, South Asia and the Caribbean. Moreover, that report also said that in general, “visible-minority immigrants are slower to integrate into Canadian society than their white, European counterparts, and feel less Canadian”. If a nu
