John Lilly, Mozilla’s Chief Operating Officer, has estimated that Firefox, the company’s popular open source web browser, is used by at least 126 million people around the world.
Firefox’s penetration into the market is a popular topic among technology enthusiasts, but most market share reports don’t paint a clear picture. Many of these reports are done by collecting statistics from a wide selection of sites, but Lilly points out that the results can be skewed depending on the types of sites being used for the data sample.
“The most basic issue is that there’s no way to really represent the complexity and the dynamism of the global Web — it’s just too big, with too many things changing too rapidly,” he explained.

Monster.com has confirmed hackers who used servers in Ukraine stole login details from employers registered with the site. They then used those details to glean personal information from 1.3 million users who had logged resumes with the site. Monster has more than 70 million resumes on file. The hackers, posing as potential employers, then sent e-mails with scam job offers, with requests for financial information or with malicious software that would hijack the user's computer until a ransom was paid. The website said it first learned of the hack from Symantec last Friday, and had the Ukrainian servers shut down by Tuesday. Monster vice-president Patrick Manzo told the Los Angeles Times that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Secret Service were investigating the case.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the MySpace Instant Messenger. It’s been out for a while but they’ve only recently began promoting it and are claiming that the program already has 19 million users. Kind of hard to believe, but possible given the amount of MySpace users. It could catch up to AIM in time (63 million users according to mashable.com), but the loyalty aim has is very high since it’s been around for a much longer period of time.
It does offer some good promotion tools so it would make sense for any marketer to make use of it. One very important aspect being the ability to connect users that are currently online. If you have 1000 friends, the time lapse in conversations between logins can hinder the development of personal relationships with your friends, but using this tool, you could message users when they are online and talk to them in real time.
If you’re interested in getting it, you can download in the MySpace website here.

Blizzard Entertainment announced today that World of Warcraft, its subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), is now played by more than 9 million gamers around the world.

And all this before the release of the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade expansion pack in mainland China, which Blizzard expects to give a huge increase in gold farmers, no wait they didn’t say that, they said an increase in new and returning subscribers.
It’s interesting to note that if the World of Warcraft were a nation, CIA’s World Factbook says that out of 236 listed countries it would be the 90th most populated country on Earth above Haiti, but behind Sweden.
“We’re thrilled that gamers around the world have continued to embrace World of Warcraft so enthusiastically,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertai

Back at E3 this past May (E3 RIP), Microsoft announced their goal of getting Six Million users on Xbox Live by June, 2007. Well, they’re early.
Microsoft announced today that they’ve reached over Six Million users four months ahead of schedule. They say that their video marketplace is a key contributor to the surge in users.
This is (obviously) fantastic news, and further cements the Xbox 360 as the premiere console for online console gaming. With the PS3 being a total disaster, and Nintendo’s inability to figure out how exactly online works, it doesn’t seem like Microsoft is going to have to worry about losing their online crown any time soon.
Microsoft, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Six Million Users
