As always when we’re in the midst of Fashion Weeks, all the clothes shown just look like a bunch of clothes with no direction to me. (It’s why magazines like Vogue and Elle exist, and why they publish runway guides at the beginning of every season.)

I've always loved Bottega Veneta's simple elegance but the fall 2008 collection exceeds all expectations. The effortless chic tailoring, the draped jersey dresses, the understated, muted color palette, the accessories...all this draw out a new sense of simplicity: beautiful, well-structured, and simply brilliant.

Trouble has been brewing at Milan’s 2008 Autumn/Winter Collection Fashion Week.
Milan Fashion Week has been branded a “circus without sense” by Dolce & Gabbana amid fears that it rapidly falling behind Paris and London as a vital destination on the haute couture circuit.
Long delays, chaotic organisation and unseemly catfights led to this year’s edition of [...]
Yes, Fashion Week ended a couple of weeks ago, so Here's the Bag 'It List' Roundup from Milan Fashion Week, Spring/Summer 2008. You'll notice that Artsy and Printed Bags and Exotic bags primarily make up the 'It Bag' List from Milan's Fashion Week. Bottega Veneta - Embroidered SatchelBurberry Prorsum - Drawstring Bag in CrocDolce & Gabanna - Structured Croc BagFendi - Decorated Oversized ClutchPrada - Artsy Fantasy themed Printed Bag Hmm, don't you think the faces on the flowers look like those Cabbage Patch dolls we used to play with when we were little girls?Valextra - Slim Croc Shoulder BagTods - Punk Rock Clutch in PythonBagaholic Babe Loves: the Tods Python Punk Rock Clutch in electrifying Turquoise! The colour and the zippered details just 'make' the bag! A diversion from the Tods philosophy of Functionality and Classic looking bags, but I absoloutely love it! They should have 'louder' bags of this sort. Very ME indeed. For a more Classic looking bag, who could say
Here are some highlights from Milan’s Fashion Week ‘08:
Dsquared
Designers: Dean and Dan Catan
Popstar Rihanna started this show and ended it, clad in super sexy, bosom-baring gowns that were indicative of the rest of the Dsquared show. The influence of another singer, Amy Winehouse loomed with the plethora of cat’s eyeliner.
Trends: caftans, halter tops, key holes, intricate cut outs, yellow, zippers, off the shoulder, ruffles, tan leather, feathers, royal purple, jewel trim, Grecian details and cigarettes.
Dolce & Gabbana
Dolce & Gabbana was definitely channeling the 80s this time around. The theme was free-hand painting, which gave way to a collection that was vibrant, young and way fun. As a friend of mine remarked, “Ah, very 80s fashion student avant garde.” And, yes, a little splattered paint never hurt anyone, especially when the splattered upon garment is exquisitely tailored.
Designers: Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce
Trends: brocad
For its Spring 2008 collection Bottega Veneta, owned by the Gucci Group, uses traditional Italian leather craftsmanship to bring twists to a classic look. The elegant models walked down the catwalk in high heels in the brand’s trademark cone-shaped interwoven leather and supporting the signature Bottega Veneta bags. With a focus on silhouette, the color palette ranged from chocolate brown, lemon, palomino blonde, gold and silver to butter and marble colors.Photo Source
Christopher Bailey’s Spring 2008 presented during Milan Fashion Week, which is called Luxury Warriors, displayed military embellishments in the form of metal, mesh, and braiding. The typical trademark squares were few and emphasis was made on outerwear with a wide variety of belted trench coats. The majority of the pieces were made in silk chiffon, bonded taffeta and scuba satin in pale and faded colors of grey and rose. Very English!Photo Source
Roberto Cavalli’s collection for H&M is set to debut this coming November, but that didn’t stop him from showing his one-of-a-kind Spring 2008 collection of his Just Cavalli line, during the Milan Fashion Week. The collection, named “La Mia Africa”, was inspired by African art and incorporates ethnic, exotic and urban looks. Bright colors such as fuchsia, aqua, yellow and red along with bold geometric patterns created a very modern tribal look. The pieces also incorporate elements of ceremonial dress including fringes, patchwork and leather.Photo Source
Giorgio Armani took the audience at sea while presenting his Spring 2008 collection during the Milan Fashion Week. To a backing track of typical southern Italian songs and a hint of North African drumbeats, the pieces presented evoked the laid-back mood of Southern Italy. The majority of the models wore fine mesh nets over their hair while presenting sheer gowns and tunics with floral accents and fringes. Armani heavily relied on rock grey, marine blue and beige to design the bias-cut skirts and shirts. For evening, gowns remained long and glamorous while shoes were high and glittery. The designer’s Emporio Armani line will be presented on September 26th. During the show, Armani also launched his new screen touch mobile phone in partnership with Samsung.Photo Source
Gianfranco Ferré’s womenswear Spring 2008 collection is the last one he designed before passing away last June and was travel and discovery inspired. Easy-to-wear pieces, yet very flattering to the woman’s figure, depicted Ferré’s unique and timeless vision of fashion. Light materials such as silk and loose fitting cotton dominated the show along with high wait and wide legs trousers. Models walked on the mirrored catwalk wearing thick-soled shoes matching the soft earth tones pieces presented.Photo Source
The inspiration for D&G collection came from the Glastonbury festival and results in patch-worked pants and dresses as well as several floral styles. The collection includes skinny and shrunken jackets, voluminous dresses, silk chiffon floral minidresses, oversized trenches, loose brocade blazers, fur vests, bootcut pants and jeans as well as large brown leather handbags, leather hats and flat leather sandals.Photo Source
Supermodel Naomi Campbell turned up on Saturday for a sparkling start to Milan's spring and summer 2008 womenswear shows, wearing an emerald-sequined swimsuit to launch the "Miss Bikini LUXE" collection.Campbell, in town to promote her Fashion for Relief charity, strode down the catwalk to the tune of "It Began in Africa," by The Chemical Brothers, which kicked off the collection by Alessandra and Francesca Piacentini. The duo are giving 150 bikinis and cocktail dresses to sell on the charity's Web site to gather funds for the victims of Britain's worst floods in 60 years, which caused billions of pounds in damage and drove thousands from their homes.Fashion for Relief says it has already given $1 million to help in the United States after Hurricane Katrina. The LUXE collection, which departs from the designers' traditional swimwear line into dresses and wraps, mixed skimpy bikinis with floaty seventies and animal print wraps. After we've made way via London and Madrid fashion week, the big game has begun with all the major players: Milan Fashion Week, is truly where inspiration meets wearability. Dolce and Gabbana - I love the good life, and many fine things are better in pairs much like my favorite design team!! La Dolce vita plus Gabbana!!Emilo Pucci - I loved everything from the line, the bold sharp shaped patterns, bold blacks and everything in between. Marni - And now for my favorite designer "I love to hate", because she makes the most hideous looking outfits, bags, or jewelry that i'm always deared to try, and then they become the items I can't live without( and most time it stuff I can make myself but never really thought about, damn her for her vision!..lol). Where the heck did i see iths garbage bag trend? Oh yea, thats right from that designer at NYC Fashion Week with brasilian roots. By the way, I want to try those shoes and leggings don't they look tres cool?Pringles of ScotlandMochino Che
As Milan fashion week rolls on and I seem loose more and more interest in high fashion, here are my takes (hits) at some of my favorite design houses. As an aside another reason why I love thrift store and bargain shopping, all you need is time and patience to shift through all the crap to find some old masterpiece, because all fashion today is, is what was fashion yesterday, just slight altered, and I sure can do the alteration myself. MISSONI:This seasons showing of Missoni reminds me so much of that movie The Aviator where Leonardo DiCaprio played that guy who loved planes and Cate Blanchet one of his hotties , don't you think?DSquared:It's like being on a voyage of Star Trek with Victoria Secret models: Sexy yet frightening. ICEBERG:I really thought they were just about over the top embellished jeans and winter jackets, but I should have known from their recent marketing campaign with Naomi Campbell, that some changes are occurring, who knew they made such sexy dresses?Images c
All that was missing was the campfire as Armani unleashed the 'Giorgio Gipsy’, his most provocative muse yet, at Milan Fashion Week yesterday (Monday).

The curtain came down on Milan Fashion Week yesterday with a show by the cult Italian label, AB/SOUL.
