Happy Hump Day, Everyone! It's been one of those weeks where I spend more time on an airplane than I do in my apartment. Makes me wonder why I pay all that rent when I'm spending my evenings sleeping at the airport.Anyway, I just realized that it's hump day so now I'm looking for something to do tonight 7/30 and this event caught my eye: A Midsummer Night's Dream at Jose McIntyre'sWFNX, Coors L
Am I the only one who thinks this lamp rocks? This "Midsummer Shade Light" from MoMA is so beautiful. It reminds me of those snowflakes children make out of white tissue paper. What a great lamp for a bedroom. It's just so delicate and precious. I want one! (Via MoMA Store)
I used to think that “Northern Lights” was just an exotic name for nasty skunk / plutonium-powered hydroponic weed from the boffins back at the Smoking Lab in Amsterdam. Turns out it’s more than just the stars you see on the back of your lids when you’re belly-up in a back alley outside a “coffee [...]

Today we celebrate Midsummer’s Eve in Sweden. The origins of the midsummer celebration is prehistoric, but exactly how old isn’t possible to say. The oldest written source are the Icelandic sagas written during the 13th century where it is said that Olav Trygvasson, a Norwegian king during the final years of the 10th century, abolished [...]

Happy midsummer everyone!
Say what? Well, in Sweden we celebrate a holiday called Midsummer - and its probably the most celebrated holiday here - larger than Christmas in popularity almost. It roughly co-exist with the summer solstice - but is not exactly a celebration of just the solstice. The roots of this celebration is pagan and [...]

Its hard to believe I know, but Midsummer is fast approaching. Despite its misnomer this day actually marks the first day of summer and is the day with the most daylight of the year. Take to the outside on the evening of the solstice and celebrate the extra light. Eat dinner outside. Blow bubbles, bird watch, hunt for egg [...]

There is nothing more practically screaming Swedish Midsummer than strawberries. It’s a must at the Midsummer Feast (with whipped cream) as much as the flowers and the Schnapps to the pickled herring…
The Maypole though has begun to vanish since people are more and more living in the cities and neither got the time or the possibilty to find enough material to make it from.
This past Friday we celebrated the Swedish National Holiday, Midsummer Eve out in the countryside with good friends.
Their stable and barn.
We had no Maypole to dance around at our Midsummer Fest, but I must admit that I kind of miss it. Not necessarily to dance the amusing “frog dance” around it *giggles*, but just to see it stand there garnished with garlands of flowers, as the phallic symbol it has been and now for traditions and the arrival for summer.
As I suspected, there were even tough to find enough flowers (7 different species) for the gi
The Midsummer Solstice (Day) is upon us tomorrow (21st June). Many people from all across the globe from the mainstream religious to people with nature beliefs - will celebrate this longest day and the also observe the sun at its full life-giving strength.
Midsummers day is primarily a Celtic fire festival, representing the middle of summer, and the shortening of the days on its journey towards winter. Midsummers day traditionally falls on June 23rd or 24th under the old calender, but it is now celebrated on June 21st.
This day was very important to our ancestors as ancient monuments and stone circles were built to align with the rise of the sun on the morning of this day. Stonehenge is the most famous monument on the Midsummer Solstice as tens of thousands of people attend the Stonehenge site every year. Many huge bonfires were lit on high hill-tops, hill-sides and across the rural countryside to celebrate this day and also cattle would be walked between fires to clense

"I think it is too cold to spend the midsummer here in Stockholm, so I will go up to northern Sweden, almost up to the pole circle to see if it is warmer there" Does that sound like a smart comment? That is exactly what I am going to do, but I can´t claim that it is very smart as I am looking for warm weather. Made the decision to go today, booked my ticket, and flying tomorrow :)But when you see the picture belove, you might understand why I want to go up there anyway. It is my BF parents summerplace on the pic, and it sure is a wonderful and beautiful place to be in. I need some peace right now, and I love being up there, watching my BF´s always happy dog running around in the yard and eating sticks until she pukes. :) I am going to take some books with me and I am also going to paint my nude selfportait up there (If you are nice, you might see it here on the blog when it is done ;)I haven´t been much at work lately, but somehow I have still managed to be effective and get quite a
Midsummer Eve always falls on the third Friday in June. It is a survival of Teutonic pagan festivals celebrating the summer solstice. Also known as St. John´s Eve. Celebrations continue into Midsummer Day. I am not going to bore you with any details about the traditions of Swedish Midsummer. You can read about them here4 Midsummer and some traditions or here4 Midsummer .A typical Midsummer meal consists of different kinds of herring served with sour cream (gräddfil), chives and fresh potatoes, schnapps and fresh strawberries. One of my family´s favorite dishes is the so-called Schnapps Salad. (Nubbesallad) served with a small glass of Scandinavian liquor distilled from a grain or potato mash and often flavored with caraway seeds. The main salad ingredient is Matjes Herring. Matjes means maiden. Matjes herring is made from female fish that have not spawned. They are filleted and prepared with salt, vinegar, sugar, and spices.INGREDIENTS:* 300 g Matjes Herring, cut into small pieces* 1
I have decided that since there is only one month left of summer, I will turn my life around. I've already started writing in a diary again, cut down my internet time, and I will start biking again. I'm going to reorganize my room and turn my life around. Yes, I have one month and by the time I go back to school, I will no longer be the sloth and slob.
