      Microprocessor
A microprocessor incorporates most or all of the functions of a central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit (IC). The first microprocessors emerged in the early 1970s and were used for electronic calculators, using BCD arithmetics on 4-bit words. Other embedded uses of 4 and 8-bit microprocessors, such as terminals, printers, various kinds of automation etc, followed rather quickl

      Popular CPU/ Microprocessor Chips
Microprocessors or commonly known as the central processing unit (CPU). It is the brain of the computer where all programs of the computer system are process and manipulated. It is like a chip in a single Integrated Circuit (IC) which composed of many electronic components that deals with the IC.Early morning, when a man appeared and came to asks some questions about the microprocessors and the co

Central Processing Unit (CPU) or Microprocessor
The CPU is the first thing that comes to mind when many people think about a computer's speed and performance. The CPU is the part of a computer in which arithmetic and logical operations are performed and instructions are decoded and executed. The CPU controls the operation of the computer. Early PCs used several chips to handle the task. Some functions are still handled by support chips, which a

Via Technologies Reportedly Readies Dual-Core Microprocessor
Via Technologies, a struggling designer of core-logic sets and x86 central processing units, will reportedly utilize new process technology and introduce processors with two cores by the end of next year. While this will boost competitive position of Via’s chips, the company will still be unable to offer alternative for processors by Advanced Micro Devices [...]

Apple Buys Microprocessor Chip Firm; Possible Use With iPhone and iPods
Apple has finally done something with its cash, although spending a tiny part of it, after much speculation of what it would do: it has bought a boutique microprocessor design company called PA Semi. The price, not disclosed, but the story says around $278 million in cash.PA Semi, which is known for its design of sophisticated, low-power chips, could spell a new future for Apple's flagship

      8086 Microprocessor Emulator
emu8086 is the emulator of 8086 (Intel and AMD compatible) microprocessor with integrated 8086 assembler and tutorials for beginners. The emulator runs programs like the real microprocessor in step-by-step mode. It shows registers, memory, stack, variables and flags. All memory values can be investigated and edited by a double click. The instructions can be executed in a regular forward direction and also in reverse direction.emu8086 can create a tiny operating system and write its binary code to a bootable floppy disk. This software package includes several virtual external devices: robot, stepper motor, led display, and traffic lights intersection. Virtually anyone with any programming experience can design animated virtual devices in assembly language or in any other programming languag

      Microprocessor programming
The "vocabulary" of instructions which any particular microprocessor chip possesses is specific to that model of chip. An Intel 80386, for example, uses a completely different set of binary codes than a Motorola 68020, for designating equivalent functions. Unfortunately, there are no standards in place for microprocessor instructions. This makes programming at the very lowest level very confusing and specialized. When a human programmer develops a set of instructions to directly tell a microprocessor how to do something (like automatically control the fuel injection rate to an engine), they're programming in the CPU's own "language." This language, which consists of the very same binary codes which the Control Unit inside the CPU chip decodes to perform tasks, is often referred to as

IBM Unleashes 4.7 GHz POWER6 Microprocessor
IBM claims to be launched the world's fastest chip for UNIX serversIBM just launched the dual-core 64-bit POWER6 processor running at 4.7 GHz, which doubles the speed of the previous generation POWER5 while using nearly the same amount of electricity to run and cool it.The POWER6 processor is a result of a five-year R&D period, is composed of 790 million transistors and is built using IBM’s 65nm process technology. IBM scientists targeted the way instructions are executed inside the chip to improve performance. For example, in the POWER6, the number of pipeline stages – the chunks of operations that must be completed in a single cycle of clock time – are kept static, but each stage is made faster, removing unnecessary work and doing more in parallel. As a result, execution time is reduced. Earlier this year, IBM hinted that its new POWER6 architecture may hit frequencies higher than 5 GHz. The POWER6 chip has a total cache size of 8 MB per chip – four times the POWER5 chip –
