Baja Fresh Mexican Grill is located in downtown Berkeley, California at 2237 Shattuck Avenue at the corner of Kittredge. It's down the block from the California Theater, so it's a great place to grab a bite before a show. The phone number is 510-548-4444.Although this is a chain/franchise Mexican restaurant, it's very good. Everything really is fresh; they cook your food on the spot. And it's inexpensive. The online Baja Fresh menu doesn't show the prices since the menu is for the whole country, but you can see the food items they offer. I can usually get a very filling lunch for less than $5 (without a drink). They also have a nice little salsa bar. This is one of my favorites in the Berkeley Restaurant Guide because the food is good, fresh and inexpensive, and the service is quick.
Well I have had this book over a decade, its the recipe book that came along with Nippo Electeric cooker. Amma has been using this cooker for a long time and most recipes in that book are tried and tested. It comes with beautiful pictures and very simple recipes. We must've tried most of them of course. But there was this recipe which is called Mexican Rice. It looks very colourful with green peppers and tomato slices all over it. Every time I open the book, this one keeps calling. Not sure if this feeling is common among foodies, but when I flip through a cookbook, I immediately have a feeling that certain recipes call out to me. Yeah I know it sounds funny, but thats the way it is.I have indulged in them based on such calling and most have turned out to be delicious. Yet somehow this M

Mexican real estate might seem like a surefire place for investment, but the process of obtaining ownership of property in Mexico can be risky and complicated. (For more general information about owning Mexican real estate, read our previous article, The Myth of Mexican Property Ownership). Because finding the right place for investment can be equally challenging, NuWire has selected five Mexican real estate markets that show potential for growth and appreciation. Real estate markets were selected based on factors such as affordability, proximity to the U.S., strength of the local economy, natural and cultural attractions, development of regional infrastructure, tourism activity and overall appeal as a potential retirement and expatriate destination.

by Sgt. Louis Savelli, Vice President, East Coast Gang Investigators' Association Mexican gangs have been forming in the United States for over 100 years. On the East Coast, however, Mexican gangs are a recent phenomenon. In the past several years, East Coast cities have experienced an increase in the creation of gangs consisting of Mexican nationals. There are many experts who believe the North American Free Trade Agreement ( NAFTA), enacted in 1993, which promised an increase in the national employment rate of Mexico, is partly to blame for the
weird factsMEXICO CITY — So what if they rage through traffic, cause at least one accident a day and barely stop for passengers. Drivers of Mexico City's rickety old "pesero" buses say they deserve tips for their harrowing rides.Since the city approved a fare hike only for newer buses, the union representing pesero drivers says passengers will be asked to pay tips of at least 50 Mexican cents ($0.05) on top of their normal fares to cover gasoline, maintenance and driver training. The green and white peseros are 20 years old on average, causing major pollution and at least one accident a day, officials said. But drivers say can't afford to replace them: "How can the government demand we give first-class service with third-rate bus fares?" union chief Jose Luis Tenorio said Wednesday.Via - W

From: José Can You See? Bush's Trojan Taco by Greg Palast Psst! George Bush has a secret While you Democrats are pounding each other to a pulp in Pennsylvania, the President has snuck back down to New Orleans for a meeting of the NAFTA Three: the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of Mexico. You're not supposed to know that – for two reasons: First, the summit planned for the N.O. two years back was meant to showcase the rebuilt Big Easy, a monument to can-do Bush-o-nomics. Well, it is a monument to Bush's leadership: The city still looks like Dresden 1946, with over half the original residents living in toxic trailers or wandering lost and broke in America. The second reason Bush has kept this major summit a virtual secret is its real agenda - and the real

It's like a white person calling a black person the "N" word. Other black people that black person knows can call them the "N" word but coming from someone else, well it's just not the same.So if you're not up to date on cultural diversity, trust me, don't approach Mexicans calling them that. It's not kosher. Anyway ...I got home from the doctor's office this afternoon and the Mexican wasn't home. I called him up to see where he was and, as usual, he was at my elderly friend's house Mrs. Susie. I checked my email, posted my experience with

A surprising new study indicates that Mexican food may help prevent breast cancer. Many believe that the key ingredients are the spicy chilis that gives the food its flavor.
The study examined a number of diets, including Mexican, Mediterranean, and Western. The Western diet was linked to the greatest rates of breast cancer.

The first time I saw a Mexican Blue Palm (Brahea armata) in flower (inflorescences) I was blown away by how far out and down from the head of the "tree" the flowers hung. As you can see from the image above some of them were hanging down a good 15 feet! A good site for more info on this palm is rarepalmseeds.com It is also a good source of palm seeds of many kinds. This particular tree in the "paseo del parque" of Malaga, Spain stands about 80 feet tall. In the image above the other palms behind the Mexican Blue Palm are Canary Island Date Palms. Also nearby are some true Date Palms. In the image below you can see what the hanging fruit looks like on a smaller palm. The leaves are fan like (with pronounced fingers) and on the palms that I have seen range from 2-4 feet wide on 2-4 foot lo

American buyers using their cultural assumptions may believe that opting for in-house financing is just a simple cost/convenience decision. The in-house loans are easier to set up than any of the commercial loans. Some in-house rates are now only slightly above the commercial loan rates and up-front closing costs tend to be lower. Yet there is a downside to some in-house financing offered in Mexico that should cause buyers to stop and think carefully.

History of Mexican CoffeeMexico has a long history of coffee production as well as its Latin neighbors the south. Mexican coffee is grown mainly in the South central to Southern regions of the country. Coffee from Coatepec and Veracruz is much different from Oaxacan Plumas, which are in turn much different from the southernmost region of Chiapas. The later is a growing region that borders Guatemala, and you will find similarities between those coffees. In general you can expect a light-bodied coffee, mild but with delicate flavors, but there are exceptions of course.Mexico is one of the largest producers of certified organic coffees, and because of the close proximity, most Mexican coffee is exported to the U.S. Coffee was introduced into Mexico during the nineteenth century from Jamaica.

Even Wahoo’s Fish Tacos — regardless of its name might suggest ‐ serve relatively little fish.
But, fish is an integral part of much Mexican cuisine — how could it not be with nearly six thousand miles of coastline. And, whi

When we started developing QuieroLatino.com as the exclusive online dating site for Latinos in the US, we created a website primarily in English but with Spanish terms and phrases incorporate throughout. When it came time to advertise online, we approached the main players in the field: Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft.Although Google made it easy for us to set up advertising campaigns, Microsoft apparently does not want business from Latinos in the US. They rejected all of QuieroLatino’s ads and sent us a shocking explanation:The reason for the disapproval is because of the use of a foreign language on the landing page. You are using the English US distribution channel and targeting the US and so you must use only the English language on the landing page. Here’s the kicker:Also, note that t
I finally got some new wraps in the mail the other day. I ordered some Mexican style wraps off of ebay. These are much nicer than the 108" kids wraps I was using. These are 180" and are made of a more elastic / stretchy material. They give much greater coverage. They take a little longer to put on and take off, but it is worth it in the end.Get some here for about 5 bucks.
Yah, you know how I said I was going to learn to bake bread this week? Hasn't happened. What HAS happened is lots and lots of ice cream. (I blame Mr. Lebovitz.) Lest you think I've fallen into the arms of my boyfriend, Ice Cream, in my spouse's absence, I'd like to say that I meant to make Guinness ice cream for the Super Bowl, but it didn't happen... and since I already had my ice cream maker attachment in the freezer... I thought I'd take advantage of it. :)I've made the executive decision to wait to photograph and share with you until my husband comes home. Otherwise, I might eat all the evidence. And it would be soooo worth it. (Should you feel the need for ice cream made at home, I can't suggest the Peanut Butter or Roasted Banana flavors enough.) To top them off, I'll make DL's Clas

Photo: Tony CenicolaBy Randy KennedyTo the small group of photography experts aware of its existence, it was known simply as “the Mexican suitcase.” And in the pantheon of lost modern cultural treasures, it was surrounded by the same mythical aura as Hemingway’s early manuscripts, which vanished from a train station in 1922. The suitcase — actually three flimsy cardboard valises — contained thousands of negatives of pictures that Robert Capa, one of the pioneers of modern war photography, took during the Spanish Civil War before he fled Europe for America in 1939, leaving behind the contents of his Paris darkroom.Capa assumed that the work had been lost during the Nazi invasion, and he died in 1954 on assignment in Vietnam still thinking so. But in 1995 word began to spread that
Maybe I'll try this next time I want to stay home from work ! clipped from www.haveeru.com.mvMexican boy glues self to bed to avoid school | DATE: 2008-01-08 | PRINT | BOOKMARK MONTERREY, Mexico - A 10-year-old Mexican boy glued his hand to his bed to avoid going back to school after the Christmas break, authorities said Monday. "I thought if I was glued to the bed, they couldn't make me go to school," the boy, Diego, told AFP. "I didn't want to go, the holidays were so much fun." "I remembered my mom had bought a very strong glue," he said of the industrial strength shoe glue he used to stick his hand to the bed's metal headboard, where he stayed stuck for two hours. His mother Sandra Palacios was unable to free him and called paramedics and police to help. Diego watched cartoons while t

Happy Belated New Year! My apologies for the lack of recent posts. Between the post-holiday vacation recovery (funny, I always seem to need a vacation after a vacation) and the head cold that I've been fighting, I hadn't felt up for posting until today. As I mentioned in my last post, Karen and I took off for a little winter getaway last week. Our destination: the Riviera Maya, just north of the Mexican town of Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean Sea. We started our vacation very early on Christmas Eve, dragging ourselves to the airport in the middle of the night for our 6am flight. Our journey would take us most of the day, with a short layover in Phoenix. We arrived at the Cancún airport in the late afternoon, found our luggage (after an annoyingly long wait), and met up with the car
Do Mexicans cook cornbread? Well the truth is I don't know! And I have no clue where a recipe for "Mexican Cornbread" originated from but I love to cook it and love even more to eat it. I had never heard of a Mexican style cornbread until my mom gave me a cookbook with a recipe for Mexican cornbread. There's one thing I love about recipes; you don't have to follow them exactly and you can concoct anything you want with an idea. And having said that ... I couldn't find the cookbook my mom gave me with the recipe and I searched online. You can't always follow everything you find online either. There are some sites that are hungry for ad cash and they go overboard looking for content that relates to their niche. They post thousands of articles thinking the keyword richness will improve their se
