      Accountability, Metrics & Marketing
Thought about this ever: CEO's of most companies nowadays have come from Sales/Marketing background; though there are exceptions like Indra Nooyi etc. Why is it so? Has marketing become so hot nowadays that they are occupying a relevant/strategic position in every company. How I see it is a bit differently. It's not marketing which has become like a hot-pancake but the functions that modern marketi

The Impact Of Metrics For Investment Banking Performance
Financial investments are measured through metrics for investment banking performance. This is a way of gauging if a financial undertaking is worth the risk and the effort. There is no point of providing inputs if the output is not satisfactory and if it does not meet certain specifications of what needs to be achieved. The Debate on Security Metrics
Recently I was sitting on a panel which was pretty heterogeneous: There was a representative from IBM (actually from former ISS), customers, a representative from the Open Source community (who actually, during his presentation always said how bad our security is) – well, and me. In order to have some fun, the moderator wanted to bring some fire in the discussion and said: We often hear people saying that Open Source is more secure than your software model, what do you have to say on this? Well, there were so many different themes on the table which were – in my opinion – more interesting to discuss than a debate on Open Source vs. Microsoft, I actually did not want to go down that road. So, I asked the moderator back: Could you please elaborate a little bit what you mean by "more se

Linux vs. Windows Metrics -- Nothing Is Quite What It Seems To Be
The author compared the times of three tasks: boot up, loading Firefox, and shutting down. That's hardly a comprehensive set of tests. Some people commented to dismiss these metrics as "meaningless". They aren't meaningless but they certainly aren't the whole story. Others pointed out that IE on Windows was faster than Firefox on Linux and that MS Works was faster than OpenOffice. Some then

The Many Different Metrics Job Opportunities
We all know how important having a balanced system of metrics is to the company itself. This is because metrics are very important in measuring the overall performance of the company. Metrics does not just pertain to the production side or the compensation and benefits side. In a nutshell, metrics encompass just about everything in a company that geared towards the positive performance of the company as a whole. In that aspect, just about any person can say that the implementation of the proper and balanced metrics in an organization is definitely important. The great thing about this need to develop metrics, though, is the fact that there are so many companies around the world that are willing to invest in hiring professionals to prepare the metrics system for their respective organizatio

      Performancing is Dumping Metrics
I see that Performancing is going to dump their free metrics program… too much of a drain without revenue. That’s too bad; it’s sad to see a free service go away, but not entirely unexpected. Looking at the demographics of who would use such a service I would guess that contextual advertising wasn’t going to pay for the overhead and resource needs of the service. Me? I’m quite happy with Mint, still. Sure, it’s not free. But on the other hand… my stats are still working and are hosted locally so I’m not dependent on a third party maintaining the service.
