          È nata a Kutaisi, Georgia, e ha passato buona parte della sua prima infanzia a Batumi, Ajaria, dove il padre lavorava come cardiologo. Nel 1993, però, la famiglia si trasferì a Belfast (Irlanda del Nord) dove al padre era stato offerto un posto al prestigioso Royal Victoria Hospital, e dove frequentò la St. Catherine’s Primary School e poi il Collegio Domenicano di Fortwilliam. La famiglia si trasferì ancora a Redhill, nel Surrey nel 1998. A 15 anni, vinse un concorso per giovani talenti organizzato dall’emittente britannica ITV, cantando Without You dei Badfinger. Si diplomò poi alla Brit School for the Performing Arts con una “A” in musica. I wouldn't really mention it but if you live in the UK, there's no escape. The TV advertising for the new album features the last single Sailboat. And it's the second line below which earns my biggest guffaw; especially as she pauses after "nail you". Here are the verses in their full awfulness... Usually I have a problem with DVD extras that include a “Making Of” feature, however in this rare instance it’s part and parcel of the main presentation.This documentary of how, on October 2nd 2006, Mr Jan Hauge successfully put on a pop concert over 300 metres below the North Sea (in then-named Statoil's Troll A platform) seamlessly segueways into the show that’s really selling the DVD – Katie Melua… err… unplugged.Although very well edited, the whole full-length viewing suffers from abysmal picture quality, and sound which almost, but not quite entirely, fails to take-in the whole reason for the show – the gorgeous acoustics of the 300 metre vertical tunnel above them.
