I wanted my GTalk as a sidebar panel in my Opera browser and tried to load the GTalk gadget. But unfortunately it is not working :-( So I thought Meebo will work instead and put the iphone version found here as the sidebar widget. It works great in Opera's sidebar panel and I'm sure it will work in firefox too.

I know Meebo is old but i never tryed it before ( i wouldn’t trust small site claiming they don’t take our info and such ) but then again i had multiple Messenger adress and only one who had important info on it.

Less laggy than i thought it would be ( massive flash interface )
Pratical when your at job or simply don’t trust the computer network ( yeah saw some prog that Logs Every Password and logs that use messengers Ports on a network )
Keep your info and autolog you on every messengers.

Meebo, esa alternativa a ebuddy o, en otras palabras, el messenger online que mejores características tiene y más completo está, acaba de sacar una extensión para Firefox, integrando al servicio, directamente al navegador.
De esta manera, podemos tener una barra lateral (que podemos ocultar fácilmente) para poder ver quienes están conectados y quienes no.
Meebo soporta diferentes protocolos, como MSN, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, así que podemos tener a todos nuestros contactos, en una sola lista, y sin tener diferentes programas abiertos.
Sin embargo, me hubiera gustado un acercamiento más similar al Google Talk. Es decir, cada vez que abrimos una nueva conversación, estas aparecen como ventanas en una nueva pestaña de Firefox.

Si lo que están buscando es un buen reemplazo o alternativa a Meebo, e-buddy, o programas similares porque, bueno, ya fueron bloqueados en el lugar donde se encuentren, o simplemente quieren una versión más liviana que las mencionadas anteriormente, entonces no se pierdan IMO.
Al igual que las otras páginas web mencionadas anteriormente, IMO nos permite conectarnos al messenger, Yahoo, AIM, o Google Talk, y tener a todas nuestras listas de contactos en un solo programa que, encima, corre en el navegador. Así que, aparte de ser independiente del sistema operativo en el que nos encontremos, basta con tener un navegador de internet, como Firefox, para poder acceder veloz y rápidamente y así calmar nuestras ansias de chateo.
El aspecto de IMO me gustó bastante, sobre todo por el look minimalista que tiene, y la simplicidad que busca en su objetivo, que es simplemente el de poder comunicarnos con las personas. No molestos nudges, nada de custom backgrounds, ni siquiera emoticons.
Oh I forgot a possible upside to Meebo Groups. It’s a group. Meaning the same meebo group window could appear on multiple blogs. So any visitors on blog A would show up in the chat window on blog B and vice a versa.

I’ve been messing about with Meebo again and have tried to set it up as a chat box in the side bar.
Meebo is kinda annoying having to run it from my end as a separate window, plus you have to sign in and connect etc. Even then the rewards seem minimal as there is not much to actually encourage anyone to use it.
So I’m attempting to try the Meebo Groups set up. It’s got good and bad points I guess. On the good side I don’t have to mess around signing in, if I’m on the blog, I’m on the blog. Plus I can host videos from within the chat window. Though not the side bar chat as it’s too big for it.
The bad side is that, well frankly it’s all a bit twitchy it seems. Sometimes the video works, sometimes not. Then Meebo went down completely, so hmmm. Not much I can do with that. A total hassle getting the big chat window with video embedded into a blog post. Also for some reason it does work embedded in a blog post, but not from a static page.

If you use multiple messengers on a regular basis, Meebo is a necessity. Meebo lets you log in to multiple messengers with one log in ID and password. Plus, it’s all run through your Internet browser so you don’t have 3 different messengers taking up resources on your computer. You lose some of the little perks of messenger options but it is still worth it. One of my favorite features is you aren’t prompted to update your version of messenger every other day. Plus, you can log into your accounts almost anywhere you can get an Internet connection. You don’t have to worry about having the messenger programs installed. The only real issue I’ve run into is I’ve seen a few of my contacts just disappear. It’s kind of weird and I’m not sure if it’s something I’m causing or not. As soon as that person IM’s me, I can easily re-add them. Meebo definitely gets 2 thumbs up from this guy.

Ahora no sólo podemos incluir a Google Talk en la barra lateral de Firefox, sino que también, podemos ver la lista de contactos que puede incluir a personas de Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger y AIM en la barra lateral, vía Meebo.
La integración no es tan buena como hacerlo con google talk, pues por defecto, Meebo carga las ventanas de chat en ventanas aparte, no tabs.
