Straight talk. That’s my theme for this final segment in my personal series about PPD. I’m devoting this time to sharing with you how I got the help I needed. Before I do so, please understand that PPD manifests itself differently in different women. You or someone you know may be experiencing all or none of the same symptoms that I experienced. Sixteen-months after Pumpkindoodle’s birth, I thought that Postparum Depression had left the building. After all, I wasn’t postpartum anymore. My baby was a toddler. (Author’s note – Sometimes God leads us through struggles and asks that our survival stories be shared for His glory. This is one of those stories. It’s the first in a series about my two journeys with Prenatal and Postpartum Depression (PPD). Part 1 - When fear rocks the cradle Pregnancy creates peculiar oddities in a body and mind. Life span and measuring tapeIts Saturday! Yay. This was a particularly hectic week for me and with the flu bug hanging on to me the WHOLE week it really was not easy running around doing all the things. Still, I thank my blessings because despite being so sick, blowing my nose like a trumpet and coughing my guts out throughout the week, I thought the week went pretty well. I also took the opportunity to catch up on some sleep today and I felt like I was sleeping like a baby that even if a bomb exploded, I would not be able to hear it.I promised the pictures of my class. Here it is! It looks so colourful right. I once read that colours affect a student's mood. Even adults! So if we were to see colourful things, we tend to be more cheerful. So if the children are happy and I am happy, we wil

The shelf may well be the most precious real estate in the consumer-retail value chain: In some categories, as much as 80 percent of all purchase decisions are made at the point of sale. Regardless of how much effort went into promotion or product design, the shelf is the point where the consumer meets the retailer, the brand, and the product. The outcome of all those relationships and the buying decision depends entirely on what happens halfway down Aisle 2. Yet surprisingly little is known about that interaction. In fact, many crucial shelf-space questions are still surprisingly difficult for retailers and manufacturers to answer on the basis of anything but gut instinct. How much is this store’s shelf space worth? What products and brands would make the most profitable use of my space? What products and assortments drive the greatest growth at the shelf? How do I make sure that these are the products my customer wants? These essential questions are still very difficult for retaile

Diamonds are measured in Carat Weight. One carat weighs 200 milligrams. If a diamond is referred to as four grains, this also means that it is a one carat diamond. The word Carat comes from the word carob. A carob is a bean that grows on a tree in the Mediterranean. In times past, if a diamond weighed the same as a carob bean, it was one carob, or one carat.
However, in the far east, where
Just like any other advertising medium, online advertising has pros and cons. Here are a few of the advantages to using online advertising:
You can easily test the market. If you create a brochure, you have to print and distribute it before finding out whether your campaign is effective. Response (or lack of response) on the Internet is lightning fast. You can also add a counter to your company’s Web site to see how many people visit your site.
The ad campaign is less expensive. Because you don’t have the costs associated with reprinting and redistribution (as you do in a more traditional campaign), the overall expense of a change is decreased.
The ad works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It’s always nice to know your advertising is working for you around the clock and around the world, so that your customers can view it at their convenience rather than any specific time.
You can change your online ad much more easily than you can change ads in other media. Whe
Ever so often we come across one of those insanely simple ideas that, for one reason or another, result in something that is brilliant in its simplicity without being needlessly pompous – something that is, in short, quite simply happy to be what it is – and this Rainfall Measuring Wellington boot is a prime example of just such an item.
Arguably a d’rigour fashion accessory for festival goers (certainly in the UK) this Regina Regis Rain Wellington Boot may only differ from your regular, run-of-the-mill, otherwise wholly mundane Wellington boot thanks to the rain measuring scale imprinted on the boot’s sides but, with sea levels rising and flooding becoming an all too real threat to many, there could all too easily be a wider message here.
Whether a statement on our environment or just a fun take on an otherwise uninspiring item of protective footwear designed to keep out feet dry (but that always, somewhat curiously, always seem to fill with water) we love the striking simpli

On 9/11, The Question Is: What Are We Forgetting? By Hank Edson Less than 3,000 people died on September 11, 2001, the culmination of a criminal conspiracy that was years in the making. According to the Center for Disease Control, in 2005, 16,885 people died as a result of alcohol-related car accidents in the United States. Thus, the annual death toll resulting from a culture of alcohol addiction, callous disregard for personal responsibility, and a consumer industry that markets intoxication as happiness is over 5 times the death toll arising from terrorism in the United States in the worst year ever recorded for terrorism in America. In 2005, handguns killed over 30,000 people in America. This is 10 times the worst ever annual death toll for terrorism in America. Once again, the trusty Universal Serial Bus serves as the basis for another somewhat trivial USB desktop gadget, namely this rather curiously styled desktop lamp that reacts directly according to your typing speed thanks to its brightness and hue adapting according to your words per minute throughput.
The USB Mini Desk Light will glow yellow whilst you are idle but will change colour to blue once you begin punching your computer keyboard with the brightness increasing in direct correlation to your typing speed.
Here’s how we envisage the lamp looking whilst in a darkened room as we write this post.

A friend of mine is selling his older Vivitar 285 Flash, 'Good Condition', slightly used, dropped only a few times, I swear ! He only wants $50.00 Dollars ( US ) to part with it forever, so I may have to help him out and add it to my camera bag. The 285 is a highly regarded portable flash, considered a dependable workhorse that has earned its place in photo equipment history. Cheap, tough and easy to use, with accuracy from its non E-TTL sensor that still outperforms some of those fancy newer $400.00 units. And all that for a fitty! That got me thinking about my Canon and the voltage sync compatibility problems with some of the newer Digital Cameras.I believe it's safe to use the 285 HV unit on any Canon Digital Camera, but the older 285 ( Non HV ) may fry your DSLR. Checking the voltage sync will be the safest and easiest way to guarantee that I don't cook any of my camera's electronics. Head on over to the Kenrick Parish website for a tutorial on testing your flashes voltage

Steve Rubel declares dead the idea that blog links as a measure of authority. There is a very easy and fast way to measure the influence and importance of a blog: the possibility to comment. If you are invited to do so and you can do it the easiest way, then it is a low frequented blog.Even more if the owner personally writes back thanking and commenting your comment. If you have to register before commenting, that means they have a lot of comments and consider them bothering, so making it more difficult is a way of politely discouraging it.There are even places where they openly declare annoying to receive comments and, since they were too many, they decided to stop it.THOSE are the BLOGS.Too bad they are no fun anymore. Measuring the Cosmos: How Scientists Discovered the Dimensions of the Universe
Rutgers University Press | ISBN 0813534046 | 2004-07 | 202 pages
Humans have always viewed the heavens with wonder and awe. The skies have inspired reflection on the vastness of space, the wonder of creation, and humankind’s role in the universe. In just over one hundred years, science has moved from almost total ignorance about the actual distances to the stars and Earth’s place in the Galaxy to our present knowledge about the enormous size, mass, and age of the universe. We are reaching the limits of observation, and therefore the limits of human understanding. Beyond lies only our imagination, seeded by the theories of physics.
In Measuring the Cosmos, science writers David and Matthew Clark tell the stories of both the well-known and the unsung heroes who played key roles in these discoveries. These true accounts reveal ambitions, conflicts, failures, as well as successes, as the astonish
It might be hard to tell from the media coverage, especially in Florida, but the idea that teachers should be rated based on student test scores is not a right-wing plot. There are independent groups, non-partisan groups, bipartisan groups and yes, even lefty groups who think the notion has merit (like the Brookings Institution, see here; the Center for American Progress, see here; and the Carnegie Corp., see here). The latest example: The bipartisan No Child Left Behind Commission, which issued this policy brief yesterday in furthering its arguments that the federal law should change how it defines a highly qualified teacher. Testing data "should not be the sole determinant in making teacher quality decisions," the commission said, "but they must - along with evaluations conducted by principals and peer review panels - be a substantial part of the equation."
To be sure, measuring teacher quality has its pitfalls, as many supporters readily admit. And who knows? Maybe the test-making
Going hand in hand with Corby’s previous post.. this comment showed up on the thread giving us an incredible answer to the things which merit success.
What determines success?
Great victory? Yes. Great suffering and loss? Yes.

In some of the recent threads I noticed a pattern in some (no, not all) of the comments about how to gauge whether or not something was of the Lord. I’m not trying to repeat the Formula Shmormula post because that had to do with formulas to achieve success. I’m talking about formulas to measure the success (or failure). And I don’t know that I’m looking for a conclusive answer, it’s just something I’ve been pondering. How do you know when your success is from the Lord or from the flesh? How do you know your lack of success is from the Lord not wanting you to be successful in that particular endeavor (for a variety of reasons), or you’re operating in the flesh? (more…)

Planning a blog and then spending both time and effort on creating and developing it is all well and good but, as a business, we are looking to see results which warrant this outlay.
Effectively, we have a business and marketing tool which has a focus, a target audience and a business aim – it also has costs attached to it, often principally in terms of time, which need to be justified. Like all marketing activity, we are looking for a return on our investment and to calculate this, we need to measure how successful our blog has been for us.
This is turn raises the question of what criteria we should be using to determine this. There are a number of people who have written on the subject, perhaps the most prominent of which is Charlene Li at Forrester with their report at the start of the year but here we are probably looking above and beyond the methods generally available to most organisations. There are also a number of intangibles that could be considered such as branding and p

If somebody talks about an advertisement they haveseen to another person who has not, message reach has effectively been doubled. If a newspaper, magazine or TV station runs an item mentioning a product or advertisement this, too, is a form of message amplification,on a larger scale. But WOM can also add credibility to a message – a friend or family member talking about a brand or product, or an independentcommentator writing about it, tend to be believed more readily than commercial advertisers talking up their own brands. As many as 90% of people cite WOM as their preferred source of product information and would be happy to try a brand re
I have written before about my niece’s high school softball team. I have spoken about how a few years ago I coached them from being second in the state all the way to last in the conference. They had a rebuilding year(s)! Well, this year they are still rebuilding. But, I have found that we can’t always count victories by the number of games won. A few years ago they were averaging 24 errors a game. That has been cut now to maybe 3 or 4. They were walking sometimes as many as 10 a game; now they walk maybe 3. Victories come in various stages. The same is true of our Christian walk. It would be so great if when we come up out of the water someone was there to hand us a “Christian Suit” that we could put on and never have to worry again. But, they fact remains that we come up out of Baptism and we have only began the battle. Of course we come up and are eager to follow Christ and be obedient to the faith, yet many times we don’t know exactly how we are to obey. There may be sin o

If you can afford the time, candymaking isn’t terribly expensive. You can actually get by just fine without a copper pot or a chocolate tempering machine. At a minimum you will need a good thermometer or two, but that should only set you back $10 to $30. Look for a recipe of candy you like to eat. Once you find a recipe that intrigues you, start off with a small batch for your first attempt. You will soon find yourself increasing production when you see how much people appreciate the effort and great taste experience.
Economies of scale in candymakingIt generally does not take twice as long to make twice as much candy. It does, however, take twice as long to elegantly wrap twice as many packages. Shipping costs also do not scale well, though I prefer not to ship to anyone within an hour’s drive. Although delivering candies also takes up valuable time, it is a good excuse to see friends with whom we may not have seen since the last delivery. Somehow, people are rarely busy w
Question:When houses are listed for sale either new or resale, they list a square footage for the size. Is the square footage figured using the outside wall dimensions or the inside wall dimensions?Answer:You've hit on an issue that's been a thorn in the sides of architects, builders, bankers, realtors, appraisers, and confused owners for years! The problem is that there's no adopted standard - everyone measures it differently. There has been a move in the last few years to create a universal standard like the one architects use (specified in AIA contracts), but it isn't mandatory. The one thing that is always true is that area is never measured from the inside of the walls - the area of a house always includes all wall thicknesses interior and exterior.More often than not, builders and rea
