A heroic performance by Dwyane Wade left the Miami Heat's season hanging in the precarious balance of Gary Payton making a shot and Dirk Nowitzki missing one.Wade scored a playoff career-high 42 points and singlehandedly fueled a series-saving comeback as the Heat rallied for a 98-96 victory over the stunned Dallas Mavericks that made the NBA Finals interesting again.HIGHLIGHTFile type: .mkvSize:
In one of the worst-kept secrets this NBA post-season, Marc Stein of ESPN.com is reporting that Rick Carlisle and the Dallas Mavericks came to an agreement Friday on a four-year deal to become the team’s next coach; a news conference isn’t expected to take place before next Wednesday. Initially, it appeared that Carlisle and the Mavericks were [...]

I tell you what - while it is true that there are quick hires in the NBA, this one may have broken the league record for speediness by a playoff team; according to Peter Vecsey and Tim Bontemps of the New York Post, Rick Carlisle has agreed to terms with the Dallas Mavericks to [...]

Johnson and the Dallas Mavericks have parted ways, less than 24 hours after getting knocked out of the playoffs by the New Orleans Hornets.

The writing was really on the wall for the Lil' General huh? What a story. Groomed as Don Nelson's successor. A Finals appearance and a Coach of the Year award in his first full season as coach. You could've written off blowing a 2-0 Finals lead to the Heat. They had a highly-motivated Shaq, an en fuego Dwayne Wade and a nice supporting cast of veterans. True to that, the Mavericks won 67 games the next season. That's the 5th most in NBA history. And then the Creator became the Destroyer. Don Nelson's 8th seeded Warriors ran over the highly favored #1 seeded Mavericks. The teacher had whipped the pupil. Mark Cuban, to his credit, maintained his cool for a hot minute. There were no immediate changes, trades or signings. In the Mavericks defense the Celtics summer moves prompted quite a few

David West led six Charlotte Hornets players in double figures, the Hornets shot 50% (38-76) from the floor for the game and defeated the Dallas Mavericks Sunday 97-84. If you were not aware that Saturday was Chris Paul’s first foray into the post season, you certainly would not have deduced it by his play. Paul looked like a savvy postseason vet, as he recorded a double-double, including a game high 35 points, leading the New Orleans Hornets to a 104-92 win over the [...]

Dirk Nowitzki scored a game 32 points shooting 12-23 from the floor, and 4-5 from outside the arc, as he led the Dallas Mavericks past the Utah Jazz Thursday night 97-94, and right into the playoffs. The win clinched a post season spot for the Mavericks who won their 50th game of the campaign. it [...]
This is probably the most important game of the season for the Dallas Mavericks. They have dropped in the standings and the big trade of bringing Jason Kidd to Dallas has flopped. They are 11-11 with Jason Kidd in the lineup, they were winning way more games without him. Dallas is currently in a three [...]
"The NBA has instructed the Mavericks to re-open the team's home locker room to properly credentialed full-time bloggers who were banned earlier this month. Bloggers, including The Dallas Morning News' Tim MacMahon, again will be allowed locker room access when the team returns to American Airlines Center for Wednesday's game against the Golden State Warriors."[via dallas news]
Josh Howard scored a game high 32 points, leading four Dallas Mavericks starters in double figures, as the the Mavericks drubbed the Los Angeles Clippers Tuesday night 103-90. Now granted not all of the Mavericks opponents during the period that All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki is out with knee and ankle injuries will be as easy to beat [...]
ESPN.com reported that Dallas Mavericks Team Owner Mark Cuban is speculating that the team will be without forward Dirk Nowitzki for the next two weeks after getting injured in a loss Sunday to the San Antonio Spurs. Nowitzki fell to the ground writhing in pain after injuring his left leg, which seemingly buckled under him [...]
The Dallas Mavericks, in Tuesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, by all rights should have been beaten by a ton. But instead, after the Lakers had built up a 25-point lead, Dallas managed to get close - real close; however, the Lakers managed to hold off the pesky Mavericks, escaping American Airlines Center [...]
Tipster: ruileal / Los Angeles Lakers @ Dallas Mavericks - NBA
Jason Kidd was brought to the Mavericks for leadership and his excellent ability to provide assists, when needed; but it was his backup, Tyronn Lue, who may have outshone Kidd as he was perfect from the floor, going 5-of-5, including a trio of 3-pointers. Between Kidd, Lue and Dirk Nowitzki, there was enough firepower [...]
Kobe Bryant has found form late in the game, scoring 52 points to see the LA Lakers beat the Dallas Mavericks in over time. The Lakers won 108-104 in LA. Bryant proved frustrating for the Mavs, with coach Avery Johnson trying everything to stop him.Johnson said: “We gave him a single look, then we double-teamed him, then we gave him a triple-team and he split the triple-team and scored. We tried to zone him, we tried to funnel him in the trap for a zone and he went the other way."This game was the 22nd time in Bryant's career that he hit the 50-point mark in a game, and the first time so far this season. With huge waves hitting Northern California the Mavericks surf competition window is set to open this Friday. The contest runs for a period of three to four months. During that time surfers are on-call. When conditions are right competitors are given 24 hours to get to Half Moon Bay for the start of the competition. Mavericks Surf Ventures will offer live, free Web cast of each heat and the opportunity to watch the event for free on the jumbo screens at AT&T Park. For those who want to view the event in person expect large crowds and minimal parking. Two designated parking lots will be established — one on the tarmac at the Half Moon Bay Airport and one in the upper parking lot at Pillar Point Harbor. $75,000 in prize money is up for grabs for the top six surfers.
In every action, there is a consequence. Avery Johnson coach of Dallas Mavericks’s was fined $25,000 for his actions during a game against the Indiana Pacers last week.
He was removed with 8:34 remaining in the fourth quarter on Nov. 23 after picking up two technical fouls for arguing with referee Bennett Salvatore over a foul call. Dallas Mavericks loss to Indiana Pacers 111-107.
Stu Jackson, NBA executive VP said Avery Johnson was cited for failing to leave the court in a timely manner and for verbal abuse of a game official.
NBA betting fans expected the Mavs-Spurs game with a lot of excitement. These 2 NBA teams are considered as rivals, so it was time to measure and compare their power. Surprisingly, their attitude wasn’t that fierce and the results were probably unexpected to many. The Dallas Mavericks thrashed San Antonio 105-92 at the American Airlines Center.
Maybe being at home, ‘the Hangar’ packed with Mavericks’ rabid fans, was an important factor for the Mavs to achieve this victory. Also, they took the lead from the very beginning, and that helped a lot to “confuse” their contenders in some way. Dallas played the first minutes way better than they have been doing it for the past games. The Spurs probably didn’t think they were going to take their winning streak away in just a couple of moments. Where were the stars? What happened to Duncan and Parker? Were they even playing? The one I DID see was Dallas’ new dominating guy, Devin Harris. The Mavs’ strategy was clear both on o

John McCain gets all the press as a "maverick," but how has he set his own course in the presidential primaries? His views are in lockstep with the prevailing Republican ethos. But the true mavericks in the GOP seem to be Rudy Giuliani and Chuck Hagel.Giuliani bucked the prevailing political wisdom and decided to actually tell voters what he believes rather than equivocate. It will be interesting to see how voters react to such straight talk. This writer has always held that voters will respect a politician who tells the truth and doesn't try to be all things to all voters. The Giuliani campaign will be an interesting test of this theory.Nebraskan Senator Chuck Hagel took his independence a bit further, claiming that the Republican Party has been "hijacked by a group of single-minded almost isolationists, insulationists, power-projectors." Hagel is pondering a run as an independent candidate with none other than Giuliani's successor, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg as a possible run
Just as the NBA fans around the world were about to see the greatest upset in the NBA history, Dirk Nowitzki came up with a sparkling performance with consecutive 3-pointers to start a game-ending 15-0 run that pulled the Mavericks past the Golden State Warriors 118-112 Tuesday night.
Stunned! The word that describes all of us when the (more…)
WARRIORS SURPRISE MAVERICKS IN GAME 4!The Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks again 103-99. The Warriors came on late and stole this game from the Mavs. Dallas has to be more alert come crunch time so the Warriors can't pull ahead. Dallas will win game 5, but it will be really interesting in game 6.Mickael Pietrus came off the bench with 16 points and 5 boards. Pietrus was a huge x-factor in this game and his production is key as the series moves forward. Baron Davis led the way with 33 points and 8 boards. Davis has been great in the playoffs and they need him to pull off this upset. The Nets beat the Raptors again 102-81 to take a 3-1 series lead. This series is over now. The Raptors got a good experience in the playoffs but now it's time for the summer. The Suns beat the Lakers 113-100. This series is over also. The Suns will come out very setrong in game 5 to get a big lead.
The Mavericks are dominating the NBA’s regular season, 61-12 record with nine more games left. With their great defense and well-balanced starters, depth bench players, and the emergence of Dirk Nowitzki as their leader, I believe they will not win it all.
Here are my three big reasons:
1. The quality of teams in the Western Conference. Utah Jazz or Houston Rockets in the second round? The Mavericks will be having a difficult series whichever is going to come out from these potent four and five teams. The Jazz and the Rockets are known for their defense. Dallas will win but it will take a lot from them going to the next round.
2. The San Antonio Spurs. If it weren’t for the flawed rankings which they altered lately, the Spurs would have beaten the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals last year instead of losing in the semi-finals. The Tim Duncan era still exists with the collaboration of Ginobli and Parker.
3. Lack of crunch all-around player. By watching the Dallas a
