Now we know what Mauer would have looked like as the Gopher’s QB.
Thanks to Ben the professor for posting this pic in the first place.
The actual person wearing the number 7 jersey is Eric Decker a junior WR from Cold Spring, MN.

In 2006 Joe Mauer lit the league up to the tune of a Batting Crown worthy .347 average. There was a lot of pressure from fans and local media for Joe to be more of a power hitter. In part because he’s such a good hitter that we wanted to see more, and in part because typically #3 hitters hit HRs and drive in a ton of Runs.
He “struggled” last year hitting a very un-Joe Mauerlike .293. He struck out almost as many times last year, 51, as he did in 2006, 54, despite playing in 31 fewer games. That continued into the early part of this season. He was again pressing early in the year hitting .238 with 5 strikouts as of April 14th in 12 Games. Since then, though, he’s hitting .407 (24 for 59) with 13 Runs, 7 Doubles and 9
Coming into this game the White Sox were coming off of an 0-6 road trip and a meltdown by their Manager Ozzie Guillen so they were in desperate need for a win.
Starting Pitcher Gavin Floyd delivered and he was almost perfect in doing so. He had a no hitter going for 8 1/3 innings.
Then Joe [...]
It’s way too early to be making predictions based on the season opener but if Gomez continues to hit in front of Mauer and gets on base…I could see Mauer adding 20 points to his batting average or drawing more walks this season. With opposing pitchers worrying about the steal, the SS covering the [...]
Taking a look at some selected players at reader requests.
I have received a few requests from readers on certain players, so I will be addressing them over the next couple of weeks. I wanted to start with is Joe Mauer.
The first issue is the injury picture. Aside from his strained quad he also apparently has a hernia condition. Some quick research showed that he had a hernia condition in the
Up until recently, whenever a discussion of Mauer vs. Prior comes up I have ALWAYS leaned towards Joe Mauer. He has all the skills. He can hit. He can throw. He is deceptively fast on the basepaths. All signs pointed towards Mauer and I always used to thank heavens that we took him over Prior. The knock on Prior has always been his health. When health Prior has shown dominant skills. While I haven’t changed my opinion (and I am still thrilled that we took Mauer), I am starting to wonder about the health of Joe and whether he is actually any less injury prone than Prior.
His most recent quad injury that has kept him on the shelf for about a month makes me really wonder what is going on with him. Now, I am not doubting Joe and his injury. I am sure that it exists. On the other hand, I have to wonder about Joe’s durability and toughness. I have never known of anyone who has a “buised” quad to be out for so long. Also, does this most recent issue really
Nearly a week after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left fibula last week, Joe Mauer caught for three pain-free innings on Wednesday and went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. It's unclear whether Mauer's injury will shift him to designated hitter a few times a month or not, though it's an encouraging sign that he can get behind the plate. The plan is for Mauer to take part in another Minor League game Thursday. Source: MLB.com
Joe Mauer has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left fibula that will sideline him for at least a few days. The ailment is considered to be a precursor to a stress fracture. The Twins reacted to the news with optimism that the condition was diagnosed early enough to keep it from becoming a serious long-term problem. The team's glass-half-full approach notwithstanding, this isn't the first injury for the 2006 American League batting champion. In Mauer's rookie season in '04, the 23-year-old tore the meniscus in his left knee. Until there's more information on the extent of the injury, hold off on drafting him as the top catcher. We've seen some bad bobble-heads. >>>
We've seen ducks made up to look like players (sort of).
But what the hairy hell is this?
It looks like someone took Joe out back and set him under one of those giant pile drivers you see in Road Runner Bugs Bunny cartoons. Joe, where's your neck?!
Is that what catcher Johnny Roseboro looked like after Juan Marichal laid some wood on his noggin' back
As if the women of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area didn’t need more reasons to fall in love with Joe Mauer, they were given 33 million more. In a move that will keep St. Paul’s son in town for at least another 4 years, the Twins this weekend locked up Joe Mauer with a 4 year/33 Million dollar deal.
Joe will get 3.75 Million this year, 6.25 Million in 2008, 10.5Â Million in 2009 and 12.5 Million in 2010.Â
During the offseason the Twins had several goals. Their biggest goal was to sign Morneau, Mauer and Cuddyer to long term contracts. Morneau earlier this month signed a 1-year deal worth 4.25 Million dollars. This move was done primarily to avoid arbitration. The Twins will next attempt to sign Michael Cuddyer to a contract.
Joe’s signing should signal several things to Twins fans everywhere.
The Twins believe that Mauer is an integral part of their future. Everyone knows that he’s a hometown hero but the Twins believe that he can be

The Minnesota Twins signed their 23 year old catcher and reigning AL batting champion Joe Mauer to a 4 year, $33 million deal today. According to the terms of the contract, he earns more with each passing year, culminating with a $12.5 million payday in the final year of the deal.Twins GM Terry Ryan said, "This is a market deal. Don't worry about that."Well, it's certainly a good contract given the financial limitations of the Twins, but I have a hard time believing that if Mauer was allowed to hit the open market that he wouldn't make a good bit more. A 23 year old batting champion playing at a premium position with the potential to be one of the all-time greats? If J.D. Drew can make upwards of $70 million, then what would Mauer be offered if the Yankees or Red Sox or Mets had gotten a chance? That being said, smart of the Twins to not let it get to that point. joe mauerterry ryanminnesota twinsGoing Deep
