The NFL Network reported today that Broncos star receiver Brandon Marshall will be suspended for the first three games of the season for violating the League's personal conduct policy. That means Marshall will miss a Week 2 showdown with the Chargers.

OBAMA VS. MCCAIN - THE MATCHUP
Time for everyone to take stock of our situation. The price of oil recently finished near $140 a barrel. Gas averages (in most places) $4.00 a gallon, with no end in site to price hike - just look at the price of oil. The price of groceries continues to skyrocket, along with the cost of crops (see the gas prices) and many Americans have less disposable income. The value of the dollar is down

DEMOCRATS ONLY WIN IN HYPOTHETICAL MATCHUP
In the hypothetical match up between "generic democrat" and "generic republican", the democrats have marginal leads on 3 of the top 5 issues, and are competitive in the other issues. This according to data from Rasmussen Reports. However, once you fill in the names, on the Presidential ballot, you get a radically different story. The difference is quite dramatic.Generic Dem is +8 vs Generic Republican on the issue of the economy (the #1 rated issue). However, Hillary Clinton under performs McCain by 5 percentage points. That is a 14 point swing. Makes sense, though. If you are going to compare the Bush economic record to the Clinton (Bill) economic record, Dubya wins that hands down. Hillary suffers by association with her husband's disastrous economic policies. In fact, her evilness under

FBSEL Matchup vs. Mock Draft Central
Johan Santana After Giving Up A Two-Run HR A matchup of two teams that could not be more diametrically opposed. This matchup is an excellent illustration of my theory on fractional/marginal gains during individual draft rounds. The fact is that not one of his starters and not one of my relievers is likely to have any marginal value this week. He is going to pound me into oblivion in W and K

Junkyard Jake's UT man Adam Jones Makes an Error The Generals start off the expert league season with a matchup against radio co-host Junkyard Jake. This matchup is a good test for my "no starting pitcher" strategy. The point of the strategy was that there would only be marginal differences offensively unless you really went hard for hitting and this week shows how it works in practice. It

More Thoughts on Matchup Strategies in H2H Leagues
After reading Patrick's earlier post on head to head matchups, I couldn't resist adding my own thoughts on the matter. I completely agree with Patrick's point that matchups should be a central part of any serious owner's strategy in a head to head league. Many kinds of arguments can be made for or against the head to head format, but there shouldn't be any controversy to saying that such a

This Super Bowl XLII is an NFL Fantasy Matchup
Talk about your star-studded Super Bowl matchup. Does it get much bigger than the New York Giants and the New England Patriots (maybe the Cowboys-Patriots). These two major market teams will meet one week from today in Arizona for Super Bowl XLII. Names like Brady, Moss, Manning, and Strahan will take the field for what should be a high scoring affair. Each team features a QB-WR combo that can light up the field in a hurry. Brady and Moss had a record breaking season this year, each breaking single-season touchdown records. Manning and Plaxico Burress have been hot in the playoffs have great chemistry on the field.A few writers are predicting a NY Giants upset. NY came close to ending the Patriots undefeated season the first time the two teams played. I think they've got a good shot to do

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Michigan State is the defending NCAA hockey champion. North Dakota is the top-ranked team in this year’s preseason polls. Neither team has an easy start to the season — they’re playing each other. The Spartans and Fighting Sioux meet Saturday in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game, which is played in conjunction with induction ceremonies for the 2007 class. “We don’t have the chance to ease into the season,” North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol said. Sioux more…

Ron Paul vs. Hillary Clinton - I Like the Matchup
Ron Paul is anti-war, pro-economy, pro-individual and anti-big government.  Hillary Clinton can not unequivocally make those claims.  In fact, very few politicians can. Pre-Ron Paul, John McCain was the presumptive nominee in my view. For many reasons I believed Hillary would beat him. Reason number one is his ferocious support of the failed war in Iraq. If it's Hillary versus McCain, Hillary has the good fortune of being the antiwar choice even though she supported the war. All that being the case, why in the world would she want to upset the applecart and face an unknown commodity like Ron Paul? She has nothing to gain and everything to lose. The expression “beware of the amateur” comes to mind. Not that Ron Paul is an amateur but the principle applies just the same. Hillary knows exactly what McCain will do and say, but she has no playbook on Ron Paul. Nobody does. It's an entirely unpredictable race. She'd take McCain any day over the Great Unknown. N
