Beyond The Clouds was an extraordinary anime, but not so much in the story as the artistry. I call it “a moving masterpiece” because the art in the movie is like a moving painting. People have said that of just about all forms of anime, but this one very much is a piece of moving art. Pictures alone don’t really do justice to the quality of the art, as much of it is in the movement and small changing details like the flashing of lightning or the distorted view created by heat vapors. Anyway, Starscream rules so I’m pretty happy to see this guy head on over here. Sure he was a ginormous dick, but he was such a lovable dick. It was also sweet that he got turned to dust in the film just when he finally usurped Megatron. Poor guy never caught a break.

I just received an email from Big Bad Toy store announcing that the Masterpiece Megatron that is knocking the socks off of many a Transformer fan is now a pre-order item.
The biggest difference between this version and the “real” version available in the far East is that in order to sell it here in the states, it has to be “safe” for kids to play with. In order to do that, they have to put one of those stupid orange tips on the end of the barrel. This is not something that toy maker Takara is doing either, it’s all Big Bad Toy Store. The reason they give for having to put the tip on is pretty sound:

Maurizio Seracini says a painting by Leonardo da Vinci lies hidden on a wall behind a giant mural by Giorgio Vasari portraying the Battle of Marciano. Vasari's painting is shown behind him on a wall of Florence's Palazzo Vecchio.There is a final possible clue in the mystery, Seracini surmises. On a banner among the ranks of Vasari's painted soldiers the words cerca trova are inscribed. That means "search and find." They are the only words on the four monumental Vasari paintings in the room. The One Million Masterpiece project is a fund-raising initiative for various international charities. It seeks to create one collaborative work from one million little square drawings, and raise US$6.5m in the process. If all goes well, it should also break world records.
Some people write little messages to their friends, and others draw stunning works of art. It doesn't matter which category you fall into - what's important is that money is being raised for a good cause, and you're contributing to a little piece of history.
