MASON PROPER - Shorthand EP (2008)
Red Hot EP: Release Date March 25thMASON PROPERAn excellent new project from one of thepremiere indie rock bands in AmericaMichigan's Mason Proper are making a royal mess during their time at SxSW. It's been a busy time for them and they will have played five or six times before the week is over. The timing is perfect for the release of their newest project on March 25th -- it's the four-song "Shorthand EP" and some new videos that showcase just how good the band is live. (For those not in the know - that's really, really good.) The band made my RSL Best of List for 2007 for their very strong tour in support of last year's exceptional album, "There Is a Moth In Your Chest."Mason Proper - Rest Up From the Shorthand EP(currently unreleased!)Mason Proper - My My Bad FruitFrom the "There Is a

Mason Proper - Live @ Decibel Lounge
It had been awhile since I took in a live set of music, probably due to the overload I got last month at Bonnaroo. But last night I made a point to head over the Decibel Lounge in Northside to check out two great bands. First up was Mason Proper, who are out touring their album, There Is A Moth In Your Chest. This was the first official Cincinnati stop (playing previously in Newport, KY) for the band and my first time seeing them outside of the WOXY.com studio. I have to say how impressed I was with the bands energy throughout the set, and from what I understand this is a common thing for them. They also ripped through the tunes in a much louder fashion than I expected as well, which was really fun. Some new tunes mixed their way into the set along with some favorites like “My, My (Bad Fruit)” and “Lifes Cornucopia.” Here are a few photos from the concert. More photos after the jump….. Cincinnati Concert Reminder - Ra Ra Riot & Mason Proper Tonight!
A great show tonight here in town, be sure to get yourself over to Decibel Lounge, or Alchemize, not sure what the hell they are calling it anymore tonight for two excellent bands. Ra Ra Riot are out in support of their debut EP, which is self titled, that was released earlier this month. In addition, RRR will be in the Lounge this afternoon on WOXY.com, tune in at about 4pm for the session. And you also get Mason Proper, who are still out touring There Is A Moth In Your Chest, another great record. This is seriously an excellent couple of bands playing together in a smallish room in town tonight, do not miss it. And oh yeah, don’t forget the afterparty with my man Shiv handling the DJ duties till very late….. Mason Proper - Album news and tour dates
Great news today concerning indie rock band Mason Proper. The Michigan boys released their debut album, “There Is A Moth In Your Chest” last year on their own indie label called Mang Chung Records and began to tour. The fruits of the tour were great, and included a Lounge Act performance on WOXY, some great live sets, and caught the ear of Dovecote Records at a NYC gig. Dovecote signed the band and sent them home to re-mix and slightly re-work their album with John O’Mahoney (Metric, Matt Pond PA.) The results are really fantastic. The release will be the first for Dovecote since the last Aberdeen City disc and the release has a special Cincinnati tie to it. The album will see an official release on March 13th and has an exclusive pre-sale at local indie record store Shake It Records. The band has drawn comparisions to The Flaming Lips and even Death Cab for Cutie. The guys are also excited to announce a string of tour dates, some of those with Voxtrot, in the
