This is a very easy technique. Simply just use some acrylic paint and a foam brush to start masking on acrylics. However, there are a few tips that I want to share here. While masking with acrylic paint, you need to take note of the consistency of the acrylic paint you use.If the consistency of the acrylic paint is thick and by using a dry foam brush, you will get a more vibrant and detailed maske

I've received a question through email regarding a technique used on one of my Clearscraps ornament. I've said that I've used a "Masquepen" to create the masking template for that ornament. What is a "Masquepen"?It's a kind of translucent masking fluid. It comes in a bottle with super fine nib to ease the doodling or creating your masking design. Here are the steps in using "Masquepen" for masking.
I love Science News... today I read that scientists found if you peel adhesive tape off the roll in a vacuum chamber it emits x-rays (source). I thought that was really interesting (and there is a photo of the thumb bones of a Scientist taken with the x-rays emitted from Scotch tape!). It reminded me of something I found as a kid - that if you unpeel masking tape from a roll in the dark, it gl

Should we be focusing on making oil cheap or should we focus on making it obsolete? Of course in an ideal world, gas would be cheap and increasingly obsolete. We don’t live in an ideal world. By focusing on unrealistic “quick fix” solutions, are we just scraping ourselves up a little more time to keep avoiding the real issue?read more | digg story

Using Masking Fluid for watercolors is more simple than I thought it would be, I think it’s a replacement for negative painting. All you have to do is to have an old brush you don’t use anymore, wet your brush, rub it in soap for maximum impact and ease of use, dip it in the masking fluid then finally of course you begin painting and using it in the places where you want to apply the masking f

Recently some of my very kind friends had sent me some cricut cut-outs to play with. I must say a cricut is way beyond my scrapping budget for now. Most of the time, these cut-outs are being directly attached to the layout for embellishment. In my latest CJ pages, I've used it to do some masking around the page. I've tried this technique using some magazine cut-outs but not with a cricut cut-out.

I've actually used this "Tertiary Masking" technique in my previous Valentine"s Card. Some of my blog readers had requested to see this technique again in my layout. Therefore I've used this technique again in my layout titled "My Cute Valentine".I've cut out a huge frame and use some temporary adhesive to attach the frame to the background. Then I've used the center portion of the frame as the masking template. I've move it around the frame to do the masking. This will create the illusion of frames or layers within the huge frame. I've used some distress ink to do the masking here.
Masking Paper! How To Protect Your Car From OversprayBy: Cooper MillerMasking paper is a tightly bonded, poly-coated paper designed specifically for consumer use in repainting and refinishing automobiles. The use of this product ensures the highest quality results by protecting the automobile from paint penetration, seep-through and overspray.Newspaper, which was once widely used when painting cars proved too porous for this purpose and often resulted in paint bleed-through. The poly coating in masking paper offers complete protection for the surfaces it is applied to if it is applied correctly. Masking products provide the maximum penetration resistance from the harsh solvents used in automobile sealers, lacquers, enamel paints and clear coat products. It eliminates dust contamination from fibers and performs well, even during wet sanding. Masking products easily withstand assaults from the powerful exhaust fans used to dry the automobiles after painting.Masking paper must be carefull
This technique is used on one of my birthday card in my other gallery. You could always find some very beautiful and cheap paper doileys in most stores. Normally, the paper doileys has some very detail pattern on it and it's definitely great for masking.Simply follow the steps below to achieve the effect on my card.1. Prepare a piece of paper doiley and a piece of card stock to do your masking on. 2. Use a temporary adhesive to attach the paper doiley to the card stock. I've used three colours of Tim Holtz Distress Ink to do the masking and ink the rest of the card stock. To apply the ink to the mask and the card stock, I've used some cosmetic sponge to do it.3. Then remove the paper doiley to reveal the mask image. To blend the colour better, I've used a mist spray to spray some water directly onto the ink areas and use a kitchen towel to lightly dab on the wet areas. (Tip: Do not over spray or else your card stock would be soggy)4. Lastly, I've used the same paper doiley to mask
I've actually used this technique in one of my Halloween card and now it's on my latest layout titled "Confused" in my baby gallery. I call this the "Washed Layered Look". It's sort of a distressed layered look. To create this effect, simply create your own masks from unwanted scraps of papers. In my layout, I've teared out a quarter curve mask where I will have a quarter circle teared edges to mask with. Then using some distress ink or pigment ink with a rubberish cosmetic sponge, I've dabbed on the edges of the mask and slowly moving the mask as I'm progressing on the overall circle design that I'm working with. The masking on the teared edges gave it a "washed" look. In my layout, I've done three layers of such masking. This will give you that "layered" look. It's such a fun technique and gives so much interest and depth to the layout! Try it!
In my most recent page of my postcard minialbum which is pg 7 in my others gallery, I've used the masking and stamping technique to create some details and a layered look on a flower design. Here's how it's done. 1. First of all, I've used a cardstock and cut it into the shape I want. Then I've stamped on it with some butterfly stamps. 2. I've made myself a scalloped circle shape mask and used it to do the first layer of masking. I've used distress ink (frayed burlap) to do the masking. Then I've made myself a second scalloped circle shape mask but this time the circle is slightly smaller than the first one. This time I've used a blue colour ink to do the masking. 3. I've cut out a smaller circle from another cardstock and add some inking and stamping to it before attaching it to the center of the circle. With these techniques, I'm able to create some interesting details and the layered look without having to layer all those pattern papers and creating a too bulky page f
two weeks ago, my landlady of almost 5 years gave us the boot. there's not really much in the way of affordable housing in this area; most rentals are obtained by knowing someone-who-knows-someone. as a result, my normally high running anxiety has been pushed a bit further. in between "real" work, "fledgling business" work & a simmering, sweltering apartment, i've started to pack things that i won't need for a handful of months. it has not been a pleasant time.one of the first things to be packed was the small plastic tub of Kiddo stuff: the onesie, the hospital memorabilia, the cap still sealed in a ziploc. correspondence from Betty from those first few years. pictures of H and i in "happier" times, official documents. i know the contents well enough, i didn't need to revisit them. i've got neither time nor energy for tears, anger and loss.books were sorted into "keep" & "donate" piles. it pains me to pare down my library, but if i haven't looked at the book since i've live

Okay, so I learned a lesson with Acrylics and Masking tape on my cubic abstract project.
They don’t work well together.
Maybe if I had rolled paint onto the canvas this would have worked, but I used a brush.
The paint migrated underneath the tape causing weird runs.
Not really what I was intending here.
The funny thing about a technique that doesn’t work is well, now you know.

I've tried to incorporate foot prints and hand prints in my latest layout titled "One Size Bigger" in my family gallery. I guess most of us had taken photographs about foot and hand and are would liked to use our foot or hand prints in that layout but are lost in ideas. I hope that this technique that I've shared here would be of any help.My technique of incorporating foot and hand prints is as follows:1. First get your hand and foot prints onto some cardstocks or papers. 2. Trim your cardstocks or papers in any design you want and placed them onto the background of your layout. 3. Create a freestyle mask and cut it out. Don't throw away the negatives (of the mask). 4. Create a design using your mask and also your negatives as stencil. This is a technique called "mixture of masking and stenciling in layers". Do as many layers as you want and let your creativity flow. 5. In my layout, I even attached the masks as part of the design. Don't you think this technique creates an intere

Well here's another use for laminate flooring: Use masking tape to recreate playground games in your home.Tape off a four-square grid or a hopscotch game to use with bean bags in place of rocks. For younger children you could let them put down colored masking tape to make roads for their Matchbox cars or to make rooms in a make-believe dollhouse.Technorati tags: WFMW parenting, masking tape, children's activities, laminate flooring, toys
