I recently came across Joe McKendrick’s blog post, where he talks about the phenomenon of mashups and discusses the problem of mashups not quite being there yet in terms of end-user experience. Well, a lot of mashups are designed specifically for corporate users to help solve real-world business problems. Lots of work stations, lots of [...]
You can do a lot with new software if you tell it a little bit about yourself - but who wants to give the new kid on the block the password to their most important communication tools?
Unfortunately that's what we're asked to do with a lot of new applications these days. It doesn't have to be that way, though.
Standards based user authentication protocols, and one called OAuth in particular, allow

(Archived in: Online Income Reviews)If you are searching for ways to be innovative with your online marketing, then here is another plug for many of the ideas featured at 45n5.com authored by Mark Wielgus. No, this is not a paid post. This the the good stuff, it's an addendum to the post on "30 Websites in 30 Days", and Mark calls this his YouTube-Ebay-Amazon Affiliate Website Mashup Thingy.I have had a few email exchanges with Mark, and these are a few of his cautionary thoughts by way of how he has explained the ideas behind how it should work. Most people will not succeed with this mashup concept, or any other website scripting without the underlying concept and knowledge (or experience from learning) of how to build such a niche site.Cranking out "out of the box" and rubber stamp solutions is what everybody else is doing. Doing the same thing that everyone else is doing online will bring the same results...which happens to be not making any money online. This also happens to mirror

I put together two posts which listed 25 things you can do with Google Maps mashups. I wanted to prove, with these lists, that these newly introduced mapping applications can be useful in your everyday life. I've put these two posts together to make the following list:1. Computerworld posted an article this morning that references how British Petroleum (BP) is using a mashup of Microsoft’s VE, weather feeds (web services), and data from a corporate data warehouse to visualize the company’s equipment in the Gulf Coast. In essence, BP is using the mashup for both preventive measures and operation responses for hurricane damage.
This is a great example of how mashups at the enterprise level are becoming part of key business processes. As mentioned earlier, it is likely that the development of enterprise mashups will continue to expand in the near future. In the context of the geospatial industry, this begs the question of how companies will be positioned within the mashup food chain, both in terms of providing content and fulfilling mashup development. Thoughts?

Modularity and Encapsulation have always been cornerstones of good software engineering. Modularizing concerns is an important way to ensure that there is very little overlap in functionality between software services. Concerns that defy encapsulation are termed Cross-cutting concerns. Cross-cutting concerns make a clear separation of concerns difficult to achieve since they may cut across many modules within a software application. Some examples of such cross-cutting concerns are logging which cross-cuts all logged classes and operations, or caching which cross-cuts all cached objects, or alerting, or message tracking, or auto-reconnect, or queuing, et aliae.Aspects help to encapsulate cross-cutting expressions in one place. By applying an Advice, at various points in an application called Join-Points, Aspects can alter the behavior of the non-aspect parts of a software application. The Java Business Integration (JBI) specification, JSR-208, provides a loosely coupled integration model

First, an Overview of Services
Yahoo! Pipes (Beta)
When Yahoo! Pipes launched, there was much buzz in the blogosphere about a new, powerful tool that let users express ultimate control over how they used their feeds. Tim O’Reilly called it “a milestone in the history of the internet”. And yet, since then, there have been few public proclamations of the power of Pipes. It’s an extremely flexible tool, one with great potential. But it suffers from two key flaws:
It’s technically intimidating, too much so for a layman. It may be “drag and drop”, but remember that even the most basic aspect of Pipes, the sources(in the form of RSS, XML, or other syndicated data), have not yet been adopted by the mainstream. Even older terms like “Operators” and the various functions they contain, are technical jargon to non-programmers.
Pipes is completely invisible in its implementation, ironically much like the actual hardware it takes its nam

The Google maps service lately has introduced a new feature, the new My maps mashups lets you create your own version of My maps, where you can tag your favourite cafeteria, restaurant, hang outs and add your own descriptions, picture icons and labels to them. That too with a few drag and drops and cut-pastes. It is so simple that any person, with no coding experience can create his own mashups in less than an hour.
