      First Test: 2008 Maserati GranTurismo
Italian is a wonderful language, with rich, mellifluous syllables that roll around the tongue like vintage wine, making the mundane sound magical, the descriptive delightful. Maserati Quattroporte sounds like someone spent a lot of time finding a cool name for a hugely charismatic luxury sedan. Actually, they named it for what it is: a [...]

      Maserati GranTurismo
2007 is a very interesting year for Maserati, because Maserati made profit for the first time in the last 17 years. For the 2008 we can safely say that will be even more interesting because of the new model GranTurismo.

[click on image to enlarge] This car oozes. What does it ooze? It oozes sex appeal. It oozes sensuality that only the Italians could derive from a vehicle and it does it with an incredible amount of intimidating presence. We’ll stop with the ‘oozes’ now. The Maserati GranTurismo S uses a 440hp 4.7 liter engine originally developed [...]

      2009 Maserati GranTurismo S unveiled

      Maserati GranTurismo
It is a pity that there is apparently no loophole in UK law that would allow the new 4.2litre V8 Maserati GranTurismo — one of the world’s most handsome four-seat coupés — to be classed as a motorcycle, because if it was, it would not require a front numberplate. The alternative is plainly for Maserati vigorously to lobby MPs and get the Vehicle Aesthetics (Full Frontal, Particularly Maserati)

That's great for the prestige stakes, but awful for the bottom line. The GranTurismo is, in fact, $18K cheaper than the cheapest Aston Martin, the V8 Vantage. Though the Maserati is short 15 hp to and .7 seconds slower to 60 than the XKR, what you get instead is a rolling sculpture designed by the man who penned the 599, usable rear seats, and the Maserati cachet that everyone else seems to think costs so much. And even though you don't see too many XKR's on the road, you're guaranteed to see even few GranTurismos -- if you're into
