      Maryland: Some Attitude Here!
Gov. The commission will focus on "racial, jurisdictional and economic disparities" in the administration of capital punishment. Meanwhile, there are five prisoners on "death row," and Maryland Republicans are increasingly vocal in their criticisms. They believe the Governor is simply not enforcing the law because he doesn't like it. House Republican Leader Anthony O'Donnell says, "If this governor wants to grant heinous murderers a pardon, he has the right to do that. You can thank the very effective Maryland Association of Realtors (MAR) for their leadership in helping to defeat the following proposed taxes, which would have impacted you, the consumer:  1.  TAX ON SERVICES:  The proposed tax on real estate property management services was removed from the final bill.  This is considered a huge victory because the tax was seen as a “trial balloon” for a far-reaching tax-on-services bill, ultimately taxing consumers on ALL real estate commissions and fees.  2.  GREEN FUND:  Real estate was re

How To Get Cheap Health Insurance Online In Maryland
By: Larry NezFor many people health insurance has become so expensive that they are forced to do without it. Unfortunately this leaves them wide open to the financially devastating effects of a catastrophic illness or a severe accident, which can wipe out a lifetime of savings and decimate other assets in the blink of an eye.The health insurance crisis has gotten so bad that almost 17% of all Maryland residents no longer have any health coverage at all, and more than 50% of Maryland residents admit that keeping their health insurance is a severe financial burden. It wont take much to push many of these people over the edge and create a health care nightmare.Fortunately there are things you can do to help keep the cost of your health care down and for many people it may be necessary to completely re-think the reason for having health care insurance in the first place. But lets start with a few simple things you can do to help keep your health insurance premiums as low as possible.First,

Maryland's Ambitious Plan to Improve Their Railways Should Inspire Us
Yes, Maryland starts from a position of a solid and always improving job base, but the plan outlined by Maryland's Governor should inspire us to be vigilant (imho) about our own 3C Corridor Plan. The Washington Post article about it is here. They are running a bit on faith:"....This is a very ambitious concept, and we don't have money in the bank to pay for it. But we have a reasonable expectation that these are cost-effective ideas that would bring a lot of transportation benefit, and we'll find the money as the years go by,..." but it's a thirty year plan to better connect Baltimore and Washington and turn the Rail System into a full fledged service, not one that enhances the rush hour commute (although there are only a few hours when it's not rush hour there, but I digress). Henry Kay is an administrator with the MD Transit Authority and this quote interested me too:"....Kay said the state is considering private development of stations and parking lots to generate revenue for t

New York, Washington And Now MarylandUphold Traditional MarriageIn declaring that the State's legitimate interests in fostering procreation and encouraging the traditional family structure ... our opinion should by no means be read to imply that the General Assembly may not grant and recognize for homosexual persons civil unions or the right to marry a person of the same sex.In spite of the unequal treatment suffered possibly by Appellees and certainly a substantial portion of other citizens similarly situated, we are not persuaded that gay, lesbian and bisexual persons are so politically powerless that they are entitled to "extraordinary protection from the majoritarian political process." To the contrary, it appears that, at least in Maryland, advocacy to eliminate discrimination against gay, lesbian and bisexual persons based on their sexual orientation has met with growing successes in the legislative and executive branches of government. In the absence of some generally accepted s

Maryland Renaissace Festival - What a Blast!
Well, we did it! We managed to spend an entire day (minus the last 1/2 hour) at the Ren Fest.We showed up to the RenFest just in time to see King Henry VIII enter Revel Grove and open the day's events.  Met up with our friends and traipsed down to our traditional RenFest breakfast of Knave on a Stake in a Boat (sausage on a stick).  Then over to our favorite bardish bartender to grab an ale and a couple of bee stings (honey mead with Hard Apple Cider). On the way back, we watched a Highland contest with big burly men in kilts attempting to toss telephone poles end over end.  (We hadn't finished our bee stings yet - so yes, they really were doing this).  We went wandering to grab a Scotch Egg - a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage - was greeted by the king (my wench wife got all excited by this) and headed back to the jousting arena to see the morning joust. After the jousting we went over to see Johnny Fox, Sword Swalloer Extraordinaire (claims to have no

Maryland to show Disney comic books to children in school.
This article reports on a program in Maryland to use comic books in class. I'm not opposed to it. If the comic books don't focus on the adult or the political as many modern comic books do, it shouldn't present a problem and, let's face it, some children wouldn't read anything else. Adopting comic books in schools may tell us something on the direction of our society, however. I remember when teachers would discourage kids from reading comic books because they felt that the students would be wasting time compared to reading the traditional, more substantive children's literature like Treasure Island or Alice in Wonderland. And this was when comic books were a little decent! It also illustrates the reading uber alles attitude of many teachers in which they're so concerned with their students reading, to their credit, that they sometimes don't consider the moral or psychological harm the wrong kind of book can have on a child. Maryland Style Crab Cakes - by Chef Brian

It was a guarded secret until today! There are very few private recipes that I will let go public but it’s time that everyone needs to have this one. I have traveled the country trying crabcakes that were supposed to be fantastic by the critics, but none have ever come close to this one. This is a very simple recipe, as some of the best are, and can be made in a short amount of time. The dressing gains flavor over time, 3-5 days, and will keep well if refrigerated. Blue crab lump meat is quite pricey and you can get away with just claw meat for this recipe if your budget demands. I have reduced the recipe to a manageable size, originally it was for 100, 4 oz. cakes! The restaurant would go through a couple hundred cakes a day. They were the most popular item on the menu.
