Here is an excerpt from Sunday’s Martinsville Reporter-Times recalling the flooding and the damaged caused back in Martinsville and Paragon Indiana back in 1913:
The recent flood was strikingly similar in the amount of damage caused by the flood of March 1913, but the similarity stops there.
In 1913, more than 12 hours of heavy rains caused [...]
The Martinsville overnight TV Ratings for the Cup race were the same as last year. NASCAR on Fox tallied a 4.9/10 that Sunday for racing from Martinsville. The 4.9/10 is flat with last year’s Martinsville rating (4.9/11), but in this case that’s good news given the dramatically tougher competition faced by this year’s [...]

I tell you what, I sure do like Martinsville better than Bristol. I am hoping that the empty seats that I saw on Sunday were weather related and not a slow down on NASCAR's popularity. I believe this year's chase is going to be one of the best ones we've seen.I am thrilled with Dale Jr.'s consistency, but I would have loved to see him win the race. Junior led a total of 146 laps, but towards the end Dale's car was pooped from being over driven."I should have been more patient," Earnhardt Jr. said. "But I just burned it up so we didn't get the finish we could have or needed to have. We got a good finish."Dale Jr. hasn't won a points race in almost two years, so he's well overdue for a win. Michael McDowell's debut didn't go over to well with other drivers, especially with Jeff Burton."We co

Denny Hamlin hopes he's finally put his frustration behind him, not only at Martinsville Speedway, but throughout the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Hamlin had twice finished in the top three on the smallest, tightest track in the series, and said he felt like bad luck had let several other wins slip away, too. At Atlanta three weeks ago, he had just moved into second place when his power steering failed. Then in the last race at Bristol, a fuel pickup problem on the restart of a two-lap sprint to the finish cost him a chance to win, and he finished sixth. For 389 laps, the race looked like it would be another victory for Hendrick Motorsports at the track it has dominated by winning eight of the last 10 races. Hendrick drivers led 371 of those laps, but Hamlin and fellow Virginia native Bur

Newman Comes To Martinsville To Race, But Finds Time To Fish
MARTINSVILLE, VA (October 20, 2008) — A few years ago, Ryan Newman hopped into his pickup truck after practice at Martinsville Speedway and went looking for a place to fish. He didn’t have a boat; he didn’t even have a map.
But the NASCAR [...]
ABC's broadcast of last Sunday's Subway 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Martinsville Speedway earned a final Nielsen Media Research rating of 3.7, Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Daily reports. The rating is 9.8 percent lower than the 4.1 NBC earned when it aired the race last year.
ALLTELRACING.COMRyan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Avenger, will have to wait one more week to try and end his 77-race winless streak after a caution during the green-white-checker finish left Newman sitting in second in Sunday's Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway.Newman, who had qualified 12th for the scheduled 500-lap race, had balance issues for most of the event, but crew chief Michael Nelson had a tire strategy in mind to help Newman at the end.The Alltel Dodge hovered inside the top 15 until Newman made his first pit stop. Newman told his crew that his car was loose on entry and exit to the corners and it was tight in the center.Nelson decided to alternate on pit stops between four tires and two tires. The first stop on lap 47 was a two-tire stop in order to get Newman track position. With right-side tires, fuel and one round up on the right-side track bar, Newman gained six spots and restarted eighth on lap 51.The car's balance remained the same despite the
I did not get to see much of the race. I caught the start and then about the last 55 laps. The end of the race was of course a green, white checkered run. Jimmie Johnson finished first with Ryan Newman on his back bumper. The green, white checkered was cut short due to another spin. I don't know if Newman could have caught Johnson or not, but he was not giving up.A couple of laps earlier (and a couple cautions earlier) Jeff Gordon was holding Newman up a little and Newman actually "muscled" his way past Gordon. I wish we could see more determined and "bullish" driving from Newman. This is from Sun Herald.com -MARTINSVILLE, Va. – The tussle between Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon started on track but ended on pit road. And there it will remain, both say.Newman got up alongside of Gordon on Lap 493 of Sunday’s Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway and two fender-banging moves later passed him for second place on Lap 494.Newman was mounting a challenge for the lead when a caution on the final
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 19, 2007) Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman will start beside one another in Sunday's Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway, as a result of the Penske Racing teammates earning the 11th and 12th starting positions, respectively, in Friday's rain-delayed qualifying session.Busch, who went out 40th in the 48-driver qualifying order, recorded a lap of 20.068 seconds, 94.359 mph, in his Miller Lite Dodge Avenger. Newman's Alltel Dodge Avenger followed Busch. The Indiana native posted a 20.072-second, 94.340-mph lap, just 0.004 second behind Busch and 0.134 second in arrears to pole winner Jeff Gordon.Sam Hornish Jr., who was attempting to make his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup debut in his Mobil 1 Dodge Avenger, was 38th quickest with a lap of 20.347 seconds, 93.065 mph. However, under NASCAR rules, he wasn't quick enough among those required to qualify on time to make it into the field. He was bumped from the grid by former Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton. The rain certainly didnt hel

Caption: Johnson beats Gordon for victory in all out short track fight. (Image Credit: Motorsport.com)While Saturday’s Truck race was just plain boring with Mike Skinner dominating the entire race and winning, the same can’t be said for the Nextel Cup race. Racing in Martinsville is like what drivers say it is entertainment and it was. Most Cup races do have that time when everything is long and drawn out and this race was no expectation, but after the rain delay, this race turned into a 150 lap sprint race on who had a better tires. This race is always know for its bumping and banging with just trying to pass someone that proved itself on the last 10 laps with Jeff Gordon fighting to pass the leader Jimmie Johnson for the victory, but despite trying everything including hitting from behind, even knocking Johnson into the wall and just plain roughing him up, Johnson still would not let his boss by and picked up the victory once again and all Gordon could do was get out of his Impala
