Martina McBride, once opened one of her album with a scratchy recording of herself at seven years old, belting out an old country hit, “I’m Little But I’m Loud.” It’s a title that certainly describes her well.
She is widely acknowledged as the premier female vocalist in country music today and currently has ten albums, of which two are certified gold, and seven are certified platinum or higher. She also has charted more than thirty singles on the U.S. country singles charts.
The petite powerhouse sings songs in the mezzo-soprano range, and because of her strong voice, she has been labeled the “Céline Dion of country music”. Martina, like Céline, is noted for her vocal range, power, and minimal use of melisma (the technique of changing the note’s pitch of a single syllable while sung). McBride once stated that she learned how to sing at such a wide range by listening to Pat Benatar’s music and trying to emulate that vocal range.

A new reality tv special has aired. 6 Degrees Of Martina McBride is a program where six country singers are given the challenge of tracking down Martina McBride. The catch though is to do this in no more than six steps in order to prove that the entire world’’s population is connected by six degrees of separation. If they do succeed, they get a chance to sing and possible country music stardom.

"Anyway," which marks McBride's first turn as a songwriter, is already a top five country airplay single, and there's plenty more to back it up. "How I Feel," another McBride co-write, is a driving description of what a loved one means to the singer, and "Love Land" tells the ultimately rewarding story of a couple whose marriage begins with an unplanned pregnancy. Not every song is uplifting, however. "If I Had Your Name" is a demonstrative tale of love gone wrong ("If I had your name, I'd be changing it by now"), while "Tryin' to Find a Reason" walks through the process of an inevitable breakup.
