To compensate, perhaps, they had splashed some serious cash on props – a giant, illuminated M logo straddled the back of the stage, while, at the front, two walkways into the crowd and a V-shaped slice of red carpet were meant to make another M. Since getting hooked on their popular single, She Will Be Loved, from their debut album, I’ve been kind of a fan of some of Maroon5’s work ever since. Even though I don’t necessarily agree with how far they take their songs with explicit lyrics and musical videos, I’m simply a fan of their soulful pop-rock sound and lead singer Adam Levine’s unique vocal abilities. Wake Up A Call is the second single from their follow up second album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, which details the response to catching one’s lover with another and the accompanying lack of remorse for actions taken. In the song’s video, designed as a film trailer, Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine pays for his murderous response. Even though the insistent, pounding, keyboard-centered soul-rock approach of the music fits the lyrical intensity of the song well, the question I’m left with is whether Wake Up Call unnecessarily glorifies the violent content of both song a

Maroon 5 is a band perhaps best known for its sex appeal and steamy videos. When the neo-soul pop band made it big with their first album, Songs About Jane, they stirred up controversy with a video in which frontman Adam Levine appeared to be having sex with his then-girlfriend. Maroon 5 were having a late-night supper at The Palm and watching the World Series on the telly when the staff started to set up for the post-game blow-out. “We knew the Red Sox were a lock so we told them that we’re not leaving,” said axman James Valentine, who is here in Denver to play two nights at the Fillmore Theatre. The Maroons got their instruments out of the van and when the post-game bash got underway, they launched into “We Are The Champions” as well as their two big hits, “This Love” and “Harder to Breathe.” Valentine said although the band members are “big Queen fans” main man Adam Levine had to teach them the chords to “We Are The Champions” before their impromptu performance. “The crowd went bananas,” Levine told the Track. “It was the loudest crowd we’ve ever played to for 12 minutes. In a conversation with The Ledger during a recent tour stop in Philadelphia, guitarist and backup singer James Valentine had most of the say about the band’s success. But guitarist and lead singer Levine made sure to sneak into his band mate’s - and one of his best friends’ - conversation. Q: How has the tour been going so far? I read that Florida is the second-biggest stop for you besides California. VALENTINE: It’s been amazing. It’s a lot more fun because we have more songs to play, (because) the last time we went on tour we only had one album out.
