Reportedly, Peter Jackson has dropped Ryan Gosling from the movie The Lovely Bones. Rumor has it that he was tossed from the picture because he gained too much weight, which he thought would help him portray the grieving father. Jackson, who is a model of peak human physical condition, decided to hand the role over to former Calvin Kline underwear model Mark Wahlberg. Jackson commented on his decision earlier today: “I decided that the movie needed someone who could tackle the emotional aspects of the film as well as the stunts and action.” One reporter mentioned the fact that The Lovely Bones is a tender-hearted drama about the murder of a young girl and wouldn’t require action or stunts. One day before shooting begins on The Lovely Bones, disaster struck. Ryan Gosling apparently left the film due to ‘creative differences’. He had already gained 20 pounds and grown a beard for the role. So, who can fill the void? Marky Mark of course! Yep, Mark Wahlberg has stepped in to replace Gosling in the Peter-Jackson adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel.
Wahlberg will take the role of Jack Salmon, the grieving father of a 14-year-old girl from Pennsylvania who is murdered by her neighbour. The girl tells her story from heaven, showing the lives of the people around her and how they have changed, all while attempting to get someone to find her lost body.
Rachel Weisz will be playing the girls mother. I’m sure there is more of a story behind the last minute move, but it will be a while before it comes out of the woodwork.
