What To Do This Year To Celebrate Mardi Gras
This year to celebrate Mardi Gras, send out a few free e-cards. Free e-cards are quickly becoming the favored choice over paper cards to celebrate events. Celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the penitence of Lent, Carnival is a time to let loose of all inhibitions and relax, often [...]

      Barstool Mardi Gras Part 1
Introducing Valerie from Suffolk. Hmm, what can I say about Valerie? What to say? What to say? Nothing unusual that I can notice in her photos. Just a typical Suffolk student with typical measurements. Nothing that would stop traffic or anything like that.

Record revellers answer Mardi Gras critics
A record number of gays and lesbians and their families and friends celebrated the 30th Sydney Mardi Gras on Saturday night. About 10,000 revellers and a further 400,000 rainbow flag-waving onlookers answered the critics and doomsayers who, in the lead-up to the parade, claimed Mardi Gras had lost its way. Led by veterans of the first Mardi Gras, the '78ers, Saturday night's parade contained many politically-themed entries alongside the more colourful, crazy and outrageous ones. The '78ers received a particularly warm welcome from the onlookers who lined Oxford Street for the event's 30th birthday bash. Among other popular paraders were the progressive Jewish group Dayenu, who marched with Beit el Hob (House of Love), a group for LGBTQs of Middle Eastern backgrounds. Crowds also gave

30th Sydney Mardi Gras? I must be old
It was the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on Saturday night. For those who've never heard of it (must be a few), around 700,000 watch the parade for a mile and a bit up one of Sydney's main drags, ending at the Showgrounds where the party's held. Several thousand participate and there are over 100 floats and marching groups. The parade assembles in the city centre then turns into the main drag, Oxford Street — 'Dykes on bikes' lead, doing teaser runs up and down, warming people up— that moment when you hit the drag is like hitting a wall of ecstasy. The next two hours is a continuous rush.Lots and lots of straight people both participate and watch — it's truly an event for all Sydney. The party had to introduce 'prove you're gay' measures one year because the party was so popular.

A la Mode de Mardi Gras
My little Missy was so hyper arriving from School. I can hardly make up what she was stuttering about. All I could hear was fluctuating tone of excitement.I started frowning to a bouncing kid in front of me. It made her calm in seconds. She started back from “Mama il faut que, je m'habille (mumbling after.....) comme à Borcéliande, D'accord? ( mama I must dress......like in Borcéliande,ok?) And me, magnifying effortlessly my facial line being asked Où est-elle,mama?(where is it mama?)I stupidly asking Where's what? Then i got slapped by “Don't you speak French, mama?” With strong French accent...Uh, that hurts!!! I was about to mimick her and gearing for the girlish fight. Then comes the Kuya.(elder brother)explaining it all to me. I finally understand what was the yackety-yak abou

Of Mardi Gras and Super Tuesday ...
We will miss Mardi Gras this year, not that we participated much when we lived in New Orleans. Susan usually went skiing in Colorado. I could usually find a party that did not require that I battle the crowds. Call us Scrooges, but I have more or less participated in 60 or so Mardi Gras and they begin to look the same after about 30 times. This year we are in Cincinnati, interested more in “Super Tuesday” than the festivities in New Orleans. The presidential race this year is a bit more interesting than in recent years, though I can’t stand one more debate. Today’s related story comes from AP, via KATC-3 in Lafayette:That happy, sing-song sound heard on Bourbon Street is trickle-down economics at its best as hundreds of thousands of Carnival season visitors spend themselves silly b

      Mardi Gras starter kit
This week's show is something of a Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras / Carnival starter kit -- particularly useful if you happen to live far away from Rio or New Orleans or other places where the holiday is celebrated with great gusto. Many USA residents will be more focused on the odd cultural phenomenon of the Super Bowl this weekend; if your family insists on that, just turn the TV sound down, and crank up these tunes. Guaranteed more interesting than the discussion of instant replays and quarterback rating statistics.Spin The Globe playlist for 1 February 2008artist - song - albumhour 1 March Fourth Marching Band - Matador - March Fourth Marching Band Wild Magnolias - All on a Mardi Gras Day - Life Is a Carnival Andre Tanker - Wild Indian Band (vintage remix) - Mondo Soc

Manchester Mardi Gras 2007 for the third time
It’s Friday, I am very tired, it was very busy week for me in work. I can’t really think about another article, so decided to publish one of the photos I have taken in Mardi Gras this year in Manchester. I have already published to of them, here is third one and probably not the last one. The fella on the picture stopped so I can take the picture, it was very kind of him. I just love that picture, hope you will join me. Taken by Canon 5D + Sigma 150mm lens, cropped in Gimp, resized, little USM. No other post processing done.

      Manchester Mardi Gras 2007
Last bank holiday weekend I have attended Mardi Gras in Manchester. No, I am not one of them, I was there strictly because of my business. I have also tried to find some spare time to take few pictures. I didn’t have much of that time free, however I did take about 300 quick snaps. Today I would like to publish one of them. Taken by Canon 5D with Sigma 150mm macro lens, no post-processing, just crop and adding the border. Hope you like it.

Of course, when my sister asked me when do I want to fly to Sydney for a weekend, I picked the Mardi Gras weekend. From AP: The economic impact of the 2007 Carnival season was strong, if not quite up to the levels it reached before Hurricane Katrina, according to city officials. The real financial effects of the two-week party that ended last week on Mardi Gras won't be known until sales tax figures are compiled in mid-March. However, an enthusiastic Mayor Ray Nagin said he thinks the 2007 bash brought in

Mardi Gras Season in New Orleans, A Local Legacy.Do you celebrate Fat Tuesday? If you live in New Orleans, Louisiana, or any place else along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, you probably do.Every year, the people of New Orleans celebrate Mardi Gras, which is French for "Fat Tuesday." This holiday is the day before Ash Wednesday, and it begins a season of fasting, called Lent, for many Christians leading up to Easter Sunday. It's called Fat Tuesday because it's the last day that many people eat meat and fatty foods before Lent begins.Today, Mardi Gras season in New Orleans is a time of merry-making and festivity. Many clubs in the city, called krewes (pronounced "crews"), sponsor extravagant parades and masked balls in the weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday. It's a lot of fun to try to catch the trinkets that are thrown to the crowds from the parade floats. Every krewe has a king and queen, whose identities are kept secret until the night of the ball. It's all part of the fun and myst
