Now that we have developed the Karnaugh map with the aid of Venn diagrams, let's put it to use. Karnaugh maps reduce logic functions more quickly and easily compared to Boolean algebra. By reduce we mean simplify, reducing the number of gates and inputs. We like to simplify logic to a lowest cost form to save costs by elimination of components. We define lowest cost as being the lowest number of gates with the lowest number of inputs per gate. Larger Karnaugh maps reduce larger logic designs. How large is large enough? That depends on the number of inputs, fan-ins, to the logic circuit under consideration. One of the large programmable logic companies has an answer. Altera's own data, extracted from its library of customer designs, supports the value of heterogeneity. By examining logic cones, mapping them onto LUT-based nodes and sorting them by the number of inputs that would be best at each node, Altera found that the distribution of fan-ins was nearly flat between two and six inputs, with a nice peak at five. I plan to again file posts from the Wifi locations in the park, mostly likely from the Shakespeare Garden, the nearest spot at the south end of the area. The garden is pretty enough. Noted, too, is the excellent Wifi spot under the arbor, as well as additional Wifi spots in Sheep Meadow and the area near Columbus Circle at the Maine Monument. I tried to get online at Sheep Meadow but failed. I could have tried for a spot in the middle of the meadow and had more success.Sheep Meadow would be fun if there were actual sheep grazing. I really like the user interface provided by Globrix to look at houses for sale, in particular the Google Maps integration. It's certainly much better than the UI of Right Move, although Property Bee adds immense power to Right Move and doesn't currently integrate with Globrix. One thing missing from Globrix is the ability to save properties, but apparently that will be coming along shortly. So if we ever move house, finding a new one should be much easier than in the past.

Since 2004 a community research project known as BioMapping has wired up over 1,000 people with an innovative device which records the wearer's Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), an indicator of the emotional arousal to chart their reaction to geographical location. After the subjects explore their local area a map is created which visualizes points of high and low arousal. By interpreting and annotating the data, communal emotion maps are constructed that show the relationship between the external and the internal world of the participants. The idea is to represent areas that people feel strongly about, and somehow project the social space of a community. Bio-Mapping is the brainchild of Christian Nold, an artist, teacher and cultural activist in London. To date Nold has been able to complete a San Francisco Emotion Map using 300 paricipants and a Tokyo map is in the works.
