View Larger MapI'm still marveling that it's possible to fish and blog at the same time at the Harlem Meer on the far northeast corner of Central Park. But that's not the only thing I observed on my fourth and final day of Central Park excursions this week. The northern part of the park features some of those walk-about vistas that transport the strolling spectator into the regions of the sublime landscape. There's method in the landscape architecture. This section of the park, at least when I visited yesterday, seemed far away from the visitor-heavy areas farther south and more a place for the surrounding neighbors. That makes sense, because I don't think many tourists come to New York to fish.As the map shows, I only walked through a limited area of the northern quadrant, and so I'm look

Karnaugh maps, truth tables, and Boolean expressions KARNAUGH MAPPING
Maurice Karnaugh, a telecommunications engineer, developed the Karnaugh map at Bell Labs in 1953 while designing digital logic based telephone switching circuits. Now that we have developed the Karnaugh map with the aid of Venn diagrams, let's put it to use. Karnaugh maps reduce logic functions more quickly and easily compared to Boolean algebra. By reduce we mean simplify, reducing the number of gates and inputs. We like to simplify logic to a lowest cost form to save costs by elimination of components. We define lowest cost as being the lowest number of gates with the lowest number of inputs per gate. Given a choice, most students do logic simplification with Karnaugh maps rather than Boolean algebra once they learn this tool. We show five individual items above, whic

Minterm vs maxterm solution KARNAUGH MAPPING
So far we have been finding Sum-Of-Product (SOP) solutions to logic reduction problems. For each of these SOP solutions, there is also a Product-Of-Sums solution (POS), which could be more useful, depending on the application. Before working a Product-Of-Sums solution, we need to introduce some new terminology. The procedure below for mapping product terms is not new to this chapter. We just want to establish a formal procedure for minterms for comparison to the new procedure for maxterms. A minterm is a Boolean expression resulting in 1 for the output of a single cell, and 0s for all other cells in a Karnaugh map, or truth table. If a minterm has a single 1 and the remaining cells as 0s, it would appear to cover a minimum area of 1s. The illustration above left shows the minte

(sum) and (product) notation KARNAUGH MAPPING
For reference, this section introduces the terminology used in some texts to describe the minterms and maxterms assigned to a Karnaugh map. Otherwise, there is no new material here. Σ (sigma) indicates sum and lower case "m" indicates minterms. Σm indicates sum of minterms. The following example is revisited to illustrate our point. Instead of a Boolean equation description of unsimplified logic, we list the minterms. f(A,B,C,D) = Σ m(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15) or f(A,B,C,D) = Σ(m1,m2,m3,m4,m5,m7,m8,m9,m11,m12,m13,m15) The numbers indicate cell location, or address, within a Karnaugh map as shown below right. This is certainly a compact means of describing a list of minterms or cells in a K-map. The Sum-Of-Products solution is not affected by the

Don't care cells in the Karnaugh map KARNAUGH MAPPING
Up to this point we have considered logic reduction problems where the input conditions were completely specified. That is, a 3-variable truth table or Karnaugh map had 2n = 23 or 8-entries, a full table or map. It is not always necessary to fill in the complete truth table for some real-world problems. We may have a choice to not fill in the complete table. For example, when dealing with BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) numbers encoded as four bits, we may not care about any codes above the BCD range of (0, 1, 2...9). The 4-bit binary codes for the hexadecimal numbers (Ah, Bh, Ch, Eh, Fh) are not valid BCD codes. Thus, we do not have to fill in those codes at the end of a truth table, or K-map, if we do not care to. We would not normally care to fill in those codes because those codes (1010,

Larger 5 & 6-variable Karnaugh maps KARNAUGH MAPPING
Larger Karnaugh maps reduce larger logic designs. How large is large enough? That depends on the number of inputs, fan-ins, to the logic circuit under consideration. One of the large programmable logic companies has an answer. Altera's own data, extracted from its library of customer designs, supports the value of heterogeneity. By examining logic cones, mapping them onto LUT-based nodes and sorting them by the number of inputs that would be best at each node, Altera found that the distribution of fan-ins was nearly flat between two and six inputs, with a nice peak at five. The answer is no more than six inputs for most all designs, and five inputs for the average logic design. The five variable Karnaugh map follows. The older version of the five variable K-map, a Gray Code

What you see here before you is the aerial view of the Reservoir (a good French word) in Central Park, and I can assure you that it's flat as a pancake. Otherwise, the water would all tip out. I walked around the Reservoir yesterday, reluctantly as I noted, and so enjoyed going back to the Delacorte Theater though there weren't any plays in progress.A word or two for those who might enjoy running around the Reservoir - signs posted there indicate that jogging, walking, running should be conducted in counter-clockwise fashion. I plan to again file posts from the Wifi locations in the park, mostly likely from the Shakespeare Garden, the nearest spot at the south end of the area. The garden is pretty enough. The only drawback I've found in taking a laptop to work in the park is the occasional stream of falling cherry blossoms. The walk yesterday was ideal - from the garden to the Ramble and then the Loeb Boathouse, a modest stroll of perhaps 1.5 to 2 miles inside the park. In getting to the park, walking to the B or C subways that run up and down the west side of the park, climbing the steps inside subway stations, I'm averaging about 4 miles

immersive 3d mapping and event time
Time lines and maps have long been functional, simple and imbued with sometimes complex and dark subtexts. The map over time needs to change, to be adjusted. It also is something that, although pragmatically useful, is an artifice of man placed against the landscape in the same way that time and our selected system has been placed against something more open and malleable that is now constricted in something full of tension and ultimately arbitrary. There are borders. They are drawn along places but also along ideas. Each is an opening into both form and recognition and the darker places within humanity and human desire, fear and avarice. The need is for new systems of mapping and of time lines to capture events in time in their layers, multiple contexts, flow and in something more

      Web Dynpro ABAP Context Mapping
Data stored in the context of the component controller can be used within a view if you link the node of the view context to the corresponding context node of the component controller. This procedure is called “defining a mapping”. For further information, refer to the chapter Data Binding and Mapping in the architecture manual for Web Dynpro. The following graphic illustrates the principle of the procedure: The context of View 1 of the example in the graphic contains two nodes below the root node: ● The node Node 1 is mapped to the node of component controller context of the same name. This means that the structure within the node matches the structure within the node of the component controller or the structure is contained in it. At any time, the values of all attribut

      Web Dynpro ABAP Parameter Mapping
Parameter mapping is used for multiple use of actions. If you use one action for several events - for example, multiple buttons - you require unique information to specify the desired assignment. You can get this information using parameter mapping. We do not recommend that you pass the standard parameter ID (see below), because in this case, actions and UI elements cannot be clearly separated. Parameter mapping is performed by a program: DATA PARAMETERS TYPE WDR_NAME_VALUE_LIST. DATA PARAMETER TYPE WDR_NAME_VALUE. DATA data_ref TYPE REF TO data. FIELD-SYMBOLS TYPE any. World According To Newspapers: Online Mapping by Nicolas Kayser-Bril

Looking at the three British dailies, editors favour countries that are bigger and more populous, but also closer to home and better developed. They also give more room to the countries of origin of British immigrants, especially if they are white (look at the size of Australia and New-Zealand). Hardly surprising, but still disheartening, especially when you consider that the only brand that does not advocate objectivity, The Economist, covers

Mapping Out the Next Move in the Market
We've been following the unfolding triangle in the broader market with great interest. The direction of the breakout from the triangle will influence the trend of stock prices this spring. We've been using the S&P 500 ($SPX) to map out the triangle. The SPX was on the brink of a breakdown a few days ago, but yesterday's big rally put the index into a position from which it might breakout, to the upside.Yesterday's rally put the SPX above the upper-end of the triangle, but there's a lot of overhead resistance to work through. Most importantly, the SPX faces a big hurdle at the descending trend line. It's right at 1380. A break above 1380 needs to be confirmed by a move above 1400.Look to get long stocks if the aforementioned sequence of events unfolds. You might start entering some of th

      Community Mapping in Indonesia
Community mapping is a tool that allows indigenous people to map their land and forest resources in a participatory way. It can be a tool to resolve conflicts. Why? Because it can also be used to mediate conflicts between the government and indigenous people and provides an avenue for both parties to negotiate and agree upon spatial plans and customary boundaries. In other words, community mapping can be used to help indigenous people to gain recognition to their land rights and to have a say in natural resources management. Community mapping was first applied in Indonesia in conservation area, such as Kayan Mentarang National Park and Wasur National Park. In these area, it was used to: identify the land use rights of indigenous people, assist indigenous people to gain government recogn

      mapping time in immersive 3d ...locative media...new media...augmented reality...mapping..
Been working out some concepts that have been hitting me and gradually coming together...it is still very rough..I tried a few years ago to map time as intervals and corrolate it directly to a person moving in a space. It was intriguing, but ultimately to the artist and semi-scientist in me it was ultimately a dead end. Why? The measure was ultimately arbitrary as one cannot set something spatially that is a corollate between space, location and time in grid space and real space for the reason that the person will move at different speeds at different times and people move in different cadences and speeds relative to others anyway.So...What if the corrolate is instead a sort of non-euclidain geometry....a spherical topology in a sense of what is experienced in time and space and that can

      Bio Mapping
Since 2004 a community research project known as BioMapping has wired up over 1,000 people with an innovative device which records the wearer's Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), an indicator of the emotional arousal to chart their reaction to geographical location. After the subjects explore their local area a map is created which visualizes points of high and low arousal. By interpreting and annotating the data, communal emotion maps are constructed that show the relationship between the external and the internal world of the participants. The idea is to represent areas that people feel strongly about, and somehow project the social space of a community. Bio-Mapping is the brainchild of Christian Nold, an artist, teacher and cultural activist in London. To date Nold has been able to complete a San Francisco Emotion Map using 300 paricipants and a Tokyo map is in the works. You can find a copy of a documentary about the project at the Internet Archive.

      Mind Mapping; A Valuable Tool
What is Mind mapping? Mind mapping is method of brainstorming that uses visual cues for putting thoughts onto paper. This produces an easy to read result that is visual, fun, fast and creative. Many different ideas and unexpected connections can be easily drawn limiting words and increasing understanding. A picture, idea or central word is used to begin with, branches are then drawn out, free associations and other words are added as they appear in one's brain as they arise in the course of thinking about or studying the topic. From these nodes, further branches are drawn. This can create a web like image, ideas can further be linked via arrows - In a short period of time many connections can be drawn for a single word.

Explain different inheritance mapping models in Hibernate.
There can be three kinds of inheritance mapping in hibernate1. Table per concrete class with unions2. Table per class hierarchy3. Table per subclassExample:We can take an example of three Java classes like Vehicle, which is an abstract class and two subclasses of Vehicle as Car and UtilityVan.1. Table per concrete class with unionsIn this scenario there will be 2 tablesTables: Car, UtilityVan, here in this case all common attributes will be duplicated.2. Table per class hierarchySingle Table can be mapped to a class hierarchyThere will be only one table in database named 'Vehicle' which will represent all attributes required for all three classes. Here it is be taken care of that discriminating columns to differentiate between Car and UtilityVan3. Table per subclassSimply there will be three tables representing Vehicle, Car and UtilityVan

Life Mapping: A Vision of Success
Success is more than economic gains, titles, and degrees. Planning for success is about mapping out all the aspects of your life. Similar to a map, you need to define the following details: origin, destination, vehicle, backpack, landmarks, and route.Origin: Who you areA map has a starting point. Your origin is who you are right now. Most people when asked to introduce themselves would say, “Hi, I’m Jean and I am a 17-year old, senior highschool student.” It does not tell you about who Jean is; it only tells you her present preoccupation. To gain insights about yourself, you need to look closely at your beliefs, values, and principles aside from your economic, professional, cultural, and civil status. Moreover, you can also reflect on your experiences to give you insights on your good and not-so-good traits, skills, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. Upon introspection, Jean realized that she was highly motivated, generous, service-oriented, but impatient. Her inclination was
