TORONTO - A Health Canada warning that linked newer generation antidepressant drugs with suicidal thoughts in children and teens may have had an unintended and negative consequence, a new study suggests. Suicides in children and teens in Manitoba rose by 25 per cent in the two years after Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned that children and adolescents who took selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, might be at increased risk of experiencing suicidal thoughts.
In the United States, a car that has been labeled a "lemon†has significant problems. Often times, the car manufacturer has been unable to fix the vehicle after numerous repair attempts. Usually, each state has its own lemon laws (such as the Texas Lemon Law). In Canada, however there is currently no similar [...]

Thanks to the magic of time-shifting digital cable, I was able to catch Winnipeg news this evening for a recap of the results of today's provincial election. For those who missed it, you didn't miss much. For all intents and purposes, nothing changed.
From the time I have spent in Manitoba over the past few years, and conversations with friends of mine there both involved in politics and not, I don't find this terriably surprising. In general, there seemed to be a general satisfaction with the direction the province is headed. Sure there are always things that people would like to see done differently with any government, and partisans will always have their spin, but I never sensed a "kick the bums out" mentality like I did during the 2006 federal election. The same can not be said for Saskatchewan these days, and it would seem increasingly Alberta as well (or Calgary at least).
As for the Liberal perspective, obviously good news that they managed to hang on to
It's been a week of Canadian politicians using hockey as a platform for possible election. First the Doan saga, and now this: Manitoba's provincial election campaign has turned its attention to hockey with the Conservatives promising to bring the NHL back to Winnipeg.Standing alongside former Winnipeg Jet Thomas Steen, Tory Leader Hugh McFadyen said he'll work with the private sector to bring back the team, who left Manitoba a decade ago.McFadyen won't say how much taxpayer money he'd be willing to put up, but says the government could follow Manitoba Hydro's example and raise money by issuing bonds. He also says he would consider a special lottery to raise money as well as a players tax similar to one implemented in Alberta at one time. The Tory leader says an NHL team would make Manitoba more attractive to young people and help stem the tide of university graduates who leave for Alberta. From Sportsnet.A pretty ballsy call from these guys, and a great idea. However, if these stat
I don't watch many Manitoba Moose games, so what I am doing here is giving you a visual update of them. As you can see they are the best team in the West. Stan Smyl has them playing well!-Look at the OTL number: 7. Remind you of the big club a little?-Jason Jaffray's 75 points puts him in 6th spot in the AHL in scoring.-The only games that the Moose have lost in March were back-to-back games against the Houston Aeros.-The Moose came back from a 3-0 deficit and beat the Grand Rapids Griffins in the shootout last night. All stats are from the Manitoba Moose home page.
This is a clip of a guy I know and work with named Darren Pearson. He gathered up the nerve to approach a moose in his yard and it turns out that the moose was pretty friendly. Offering 'her' an apple didn't hurt either. As much as I would love to do something this, as I love animals, it is definitely not recommended to feed wildlife. This moose could be friendly to Darren and then unpredictably hurt the next person she comes across. It's a cool clip, anyway. Here is the second (longer) video he posted on Youtube. Here is what happens when the moose just doesn't like you.Unfortunately, we too often see moose at the last minute while driving at night. I've hit 2 moose while driving in the past 5 years. The first one I 'knicked'. That was a calf that only scraped the mud off the side of my car because I skimmed the back of his leg. No harm done. Moose was fine. The second moose I hit was with my truck at 6:30 in the morning on the way to work. We both ended up in the ditch. After
